Appointment Of Soludo Makes Me Believe President Buhari Means Well For Nigeria

Prof Soludo is one of those who should be president of Nigeria one day. He is an uncommon visionarie

It is only an uncommon visionarie who could have moved the minimum capital requirement for banks in Nigeria from 2 to 25 billion Naira. That is what Soludo did. And because of what Soludo did, any time the top 500 banks in the world is announced, Nigeria is sure to have some banks there.

Whether Soludo accepts the appointment or not, I am still worried about the future oh this nation. We need to understand the tricks and gimmicks of the Northerners:

1. Appoint Southerners to squeeze out money

2. Appoint Northerners to expend the money

It's a win-win for the North.

On the face level, it appears like a great step, but we all must understand the subliminal tone in it. It's all about throwing a carrot.

As much as I respect Soludo (I consider him probably the best economist in the country), he is also a wild card. Because of that, he can be dangerous.

For instance, he wanted Lagos to have something like a special finance centre which in retrospect considering the Great Recession that started in 2008, would have cost the economy greatly in the event of a meltdown.

I believe he would have taken the nation's to extremely great heights if he had been given greater leverage as CBN governor but was at times frustrated by the president or even insiders in the CBN. One of his policies would have led to the crash in high lending rates which is the biggest problem facing Nigerian businesses today. A crash in lending rates would have added an extra 2% to the yearly economic growth rate which would have led to breathtaking levels of growth.

However, his tendency for the extremely grandiose ideas will at the end of the day create boom busts scenario. However, I believe recovery will be swift after the bust.

Buhari and Soludo don't see eye to eye in respect of some of the president's economic policies which he once referred to as "the elephant in the room". They are strange bed fellows

He should have refused the stupid appointment! I feel he was asked by Buhari himself before he agreed, b'cos i remember in 2015 just after this gov't was newly sworn in, Soludo was seen visiting Buhari in Aso Rock and was asked if he would accept an appointment in the new admin', to which he politely replied in the negative! So him accepting this one cam as a surprise to me!

They've been feasting all along since 2015, while pushing Igbos to the margins! Now that their inexperience and nepotism has ran the economy aground they frantically ran to look for Soludo et-al to come help them salvage the situation!

thats my only problem here. Soludo who made cbn wat it is today is a floor member in a comittee led by his junior and supervised by his junior's junior and subject to buhari's discreation. Buhari can refuse to heed their advice las las and waste their time
