Yes o. Thank you.

A short background of myself

I am a recent graduate with cool academic background and seriously eyeing consulting, McKinsey specifically. I finished my NYSC a month ago. while I was still serving I applied for McKinsey ylp got to PST stage but due to poor preparation and inexperience, I was dinged after the test. Sometime around July, I emailed the hr about my eligibility to apply for business analyst role, and was told that I'm very much eligible and should send my application early next year as the role I'm intending to apply for has been fully subscribed to this year.

Why am I looking for you actually?

1. Right now, I have read Case in point, case interview secret (with Loms) and up to 2 business school case books. However reading case book and having live cases are two different things. So I need your help in this regards

2. Apart from my ability to solve case, pass PST what are other things that matter in getting an offer at McKinsey?

3. I'm a nerd and somewhat introverted. Would this count against me if I eventually get in?

4. My background as a graduate was not too impressive and most time when I go on LinkedIn to check the calibre of people working at Mck, I got scared. Pls say something on this

5. And lastly, Can you pls mentor me?

let me say you are doing good. To be quite frank, problem solving comes natural. The main hurdle in case interview are " mental arithmetic " and ability to understand the case. Q1: you have read a lot on case interviews, now you should know your strengths and weaknesses. Q2: Ability to answer interview questions with convincing scenarios especially how you managed a difficult situation and people above you at your previous workplace or community or school projects (McKinsey loves this basic interview qstn) Q3: Not at all you will do just fine. Q4: There are incredibly smart people at Mck, trust me but you will do just fine if you believe you can. Let me tell you, there was a BA (though she was new) who couldn't open an Xcel file then. grin but she did just fine before leaving for the industry. I hope you can open Xcel files wink? Q5: I am sorry I may not be able to, I am often unavailable. You can try other industries like investment banking, Finance or Advisory firms and join Mck later as an experience hire. Good luck!....

This type of thread will never get to front page. Some youths will run away from it because it is not what interests them.

People of intellect and those with passion for knowledge and learning will always be interested.

Kudos to you guys. Consulting was an area I was so interested in joining in my early 20s but the competition was so intense. I did countless assessments with companies in UK like Oliver Wyman, Messer, BCG.

Consulting gives you the leverage to negotiate big time if you decide to join other industries or to move to a client firm.

People that worked for less than 2 years in consulting would be offered managerial positions in other industries with mouth watering offers.

If you can and still within the age, please pursue your dream in the consulting, but if you have exceeded the age, move to another thing.

Consulting firms like catching people young.

They are not in Nigeria. They fly in their consultants to carry out assignments for their Nigeria based clients.

I tried joining them in UK but couldn't because what I had was student visa which did not qualify me for a permanent jobs in UK.

You seem persistent and determined, I like that. Truth is, you have to sit for the PST first...just 26 qstns for an hour (that was the standard then) if you do well, Mck will contact you and acquaint you with case interviews before the actual interview day. If you scale through let me know, I may* give you my contact.

Hello Marxxx

I've got a question for ya.

I read recently about a person getting noisily chased out from a KPMG interview (or assessment or something of that sort) because he tendered a certificate from a university in Cotonou with the lady saying "We don't rate those universities here". I am a graduate from Houdegbe North American University in Cotonou with a flair for offering operation/strategy advice, first to a friend which has been working out great, then to a manager in an organisation which I will assess in a few months time. I intend to practise consulting full-time after my service year but I'd like to know if it's true that students from Houdegbe (Cotonou generally) aren't rated in the consulting field.

Thanks

Hello,

@Marxxx and others, I have been scheduled for BCG online case(bcg potential test). A practice question was attached to the invitation (med line case) but I feel I still need more materials for better preparation. I checked online, all practice questions available are for a fee and to be honest, I can't afford them.

I'm informing us so in case anyone has (or you knpw anyone that has material) to share with me. Pls kindly do share them. I will welcome tips and advice from anyone who has pass through the process too before.
Thanks
