Nobody cares about any diploma in education before becoming faculty member in the western world. And these faculty members are doing exceedingly well in their various STEM.

Exactly! In my third year in the university, in search of a side income, I took up a teaching role in a secondary school. I taught Physics, Further Maths, Intro. Tech. at the same time. I had cult-like followership among the students because, in my 10 years teaching experience, no one around me did this thing better than I do.

But the proprietor of the said school is not sound in English syntax and semantics. So, while marking my lesson notes, he would be underlining correct sentences as incorrect because the dunderhead couldn't understand such. Despite how much I love teaching as a job, I left it for self-employment.

My wife has everything needed to be a wife, but when it comes to Queen's English, hardly will you find two correct sentences in her 30 written sentences. I wondered how she graduated from the college. That's not my problem, but trying to tell us that professional teachers have a monopoly is what I love to hate.

u don see am many folks here don't think critically... a classroom is for impartation...its different from various research institutes we have in various universities... we don't have value and standard... that's why a professor don't feel anything if 90 percent of students fail his course... in fact they pride themselves in been to rigid for students to understand them... there are lecturers who have no business in the classroom they should be deployed to research...simple

Reading through the above post of yours is enough evidence to conclude that having degrees or diplomas in education is not worth all the accolades.

this is actually true...majority of the lecturer we have are really quack and lazy....all dy do Is to be copying note from textbooks and setting hard hard questions

Having a PGDE is absolutely unnecessary for one to impart requisite knowledge to students. The key thing is RESEARCH and any teacher who regularly carries out researches in a field would impart more knowledge in that field regardless he/she has a PGDE.

It's funny how you want to be more catholic than the Pope.

Like I said; knowledge is one thing and the ability to impart it is another - you could be Einstein and still lack the required skills for teaching.

Endeavor to check the meaning of university. Then check the difference between university and college of education and secondary school.

Kindly refer to your earlier post and check the meaning of SCHOLAR; perhaps you may begin to appreciate my comment.

Enough evidence that that could not change the fact that without qualified teacher, teaching in the classroom will not lead to the achievement of desired objective.

It is the National Universities Commission (NUC) that regulates and sets standards for the university education in Nigeria.

A PGDE is not part of the requirements for lecturing in the university as stipulated by the NUC.

The NUC has set a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) as the minimum qualification for lecturing in Nigerian universities. This requirement is above many other countries' standard. A master's degree holder is appointed as an assistant lecturer while a first degree holder is appointed as a graduate assistant.

Lecturing does not fall under the National Teachers' Registration Council regulations. That agency regulates primary and secondary schools teachers. No university lecturer is required to register with them.

Both the monarch and the VC should be properly informed. The VC especially should have corrected his chancellor for the obvious mix-up.

There is no university vacancy advertisement
for lecturing positions that requires a PGDE. It is not necessary.

University education is the highest form of education. It should not be dragged down to the level of A for Apple, B for Ball.
