False, igueben people are a tribe that speaks more Bini than esan, they couldn't be accepted into full Bini but they are accepted as full esan in esanland yet they retain their distinctive language.

Esans are more accommodating to other tribes than you think.

In fact Augustus Aikhomu was VP under ibb when bendel was divided, maryam his wife decided to make her hometown of asaba as capital against the popular warri.

She asked aikhomu to move Edo capital to esan central but aikhomu was more accommodating as an esan

Youre correct my mistake ....

The binins are pridefull people
And love the fact that every edo see benins as thier head regardless of political power kudos to the esan vp

But in my comment i was not talking about forcefully telling them to speak i was only saying that they way the esan speakcthier dialect would had indirectly force them to speak esan if am not wrong

I think the binis in edos have always been politically under the mercy of other edo groups and they are ones who would discriminate other edo people ....
But in they still see all as one

The way I see it, the igbankes should allow binis speak their language (I don't think igbankes are wishing to change the Bini culture).

All they want is to be given respect as a distinctive group, getting such embarrassment during local government of origin etc is wrong cos we know the administrative headquarters know their is igbankes too, so why the stress.

Let them get normal benefits too, and I know they are just asking for basic things not trying to be disrespectful.

We must learn to accommodate each other in this country cos we are all in a failed country so why make it more difficult for another fellow human being,

Tomorrow we cry xenophobia in s.a etc

Yeah, the Igbanke people. The guy in the video is addressing his elders in the Igbanke language and it is obvious that he is speaking a dialect of Igbo with traces of Bini influence.

The man also made the point that even in the Bini Kingdom, they are called "Igbo people"

damn. I really feel for them. From his dialect you would know its obviously igbo

And those benin people are something else. They are can be quite weird brutal and hostile. I hear they hate and sometimes attack their neighbours the esan people. I wonder the fate of other minorities there

I wish something can be done about this

Same thing happening to the Igalas in Anambra state. I don't know why the majority will want to erase the identity of the minority. Igbanke people should not allow their culture go into extinction.

Make una waka go back to were una come from hmmm...we binis we dont need you ...

There cant be any other ethnic group of origin in benin, than the benin people is either you all accept it or you all takes to you heels to deltastate or any eastern state where you origin can be traced and welcomed, why fight for sovereignty in another mans land when you could easily get it when you migrate to your ownland....
Another man's land you say?

The backwardness in Edo and Benin is worse than any southern state in Nigeria yet you people are here bragging.

The highest number of cult clashes come from Higher institutions in Edo.
What about exported prostitutes?

If America or Canada was screaming our country you think there will be growth ba.

The Binis shd have known and cut them off from the outset. Unless your forefathers had ulterior gains in 'forcefully' acquiring their territory. Simple boundary adjustment. As for the Deltans in general, i blame their forefathers for mixing with the binis and almost forgetting the similarity of their pidgin-ibo and conventional ibo language. Their indecision is the result we see today!

Edo State is not a Yoruba State but both Edo and Yorubas are related

MelesZenawi:

Where are the facts to correlate these claims.

Where did you lift the write up from?

But if they mistakenly finds themselves in Edo state, then they are benins.

Let them protest and make it loud do that we can know is true and add voice.

If not then this is pure fabricated story.

If true, then let's know what exactly they are doing in Yoruba state (Edo state)...

Both Igala and Idoma are related but not the same.

There are many Edo people with Yoruba ancestries and they are many Yoruba people (including royal families) with Edo ancenstries but these doesn't mean the two are the same.

The binis who have yoruba names got thier names as a result of slave trade they had with the yoruba people back in the benin empire and they almost lost their identity untill oba akenzua called for thier return to help him build the fallen city after the British invasion....

Unlike the Yoruba's with benin ancestory is pure conquering and subjugation

It should have been delta state they should have carved with ....

I dont know how they arrived at edo state self

Benins are benevolent enough if it was the esan part of edo they settled they should have lost thier ethnic identies since inception the benins are known not to force people to thier language
It will be good for them to to loose it and stop disturbing themselves with unnecessary worries because they want to pride themselves with thier own identity at another mans land

Sowore is ijaw but have a yoruba name speaks yoruba but identify as ijaw ...

We are not maltreating anyone they are maltreating themselves
"if you leave in Rome behave like a roman"
thanks for this. Virtually all ijaw (alepo or so) have yoruba names and speak yoruba fluently though they are well respected in ondo state, the news after english and yoruba language is always been read in their language on our state channel (i.e OSRC) and they have their own separate local government rule and run by ijaw for ijaws. Thanks again
