Yes, you are right. At least in 2014...Boko controlled large territories in 3 states, and bombed Abuja and other cities at will (though the bombings were being stopped under the previous admin)

But let's be honest, Borno state voted APC in 2015 and last year because they believed that an APC government would deal with the Boko menace once and for all.

Insurgencies take a long time to fight.

The USA in the period 1970-81 had a very serious domestic terrorism problem. It took them ten years to sort it out.

Why?? Because your average terrorist knows from the word go he cannot win. If Boko had faced the Nigerian Army head on, they would have lost. Like since 2010...or earlier. Far better to 1)do hit and run 2) bomb public areas with the idea of causing panic 3) attack remote areas like Chibok and Dapichi 4) establish a prescence in remote regions...and then use for propaganda. Spreads fear...and generates lots of fame.

Add the fact that

1,Boko Haram has links to ISIS ....who are composed of guys who fought against the Americans in Afghanistan and Iraq. Lots of experience in guriella warfare (which we are counteracting now with the NA's Special Forces units.).

2.The NA too has in many ways mishandled the civillians in the region. (One powerful recuriting video for Boko was a 2009 video showing NA sildiers shooting civillians. In the back).

3.Years of neglect by the local and state and federal government too plays its part.

All in all, anyone who follows current afairs, especially the events in Israel, Iraq, Afghanistan, Russia, the US , etc...klnows that these type of wars are long haul wars.

I'm not disputing corruption too plays a role. But at the end of the day, assuming the Army is made of saints...this is a different kind of war. Give me the Nigerian Civil war....sure civillians suffered...but at least everyone and his mother knew where the front was. This war...we don't.
