The agreement Is based on power rotation between North and South. We Northerners will handover to the south after 8 years that was the agreement in 2015.

Is left for you southerners to reach consensus when the time comes.

SE SS SW will battle for it but the way I see things SW has upper hand.
There was an agreement to rotate power between north n south u believed that but u dont believe it should rotate among the 3 zones in the south

Yoruba sense is foolish ....what ever makes south west contest give north same right to contest case closed

What do you want for heaven sake?

What did your region brought to APC table? As I said I am a Northerner but I know that SW has more solid foundation in APC than North talk less of SE or SS, how many APC stakeholders does your region have compare to SW? Do you think someone from your region can stand a chance during ApC primaries when a Southwesterner will be on the ballot.

If I were you I will fight for Igbo man to clinch the ticket in PDP before it will be too late.

- National president of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), Yerima Shettima, says the southeast will support a presidential candidate from the north in 2023
- Yerima argues that the north needs another chance in 2023 to serve as compensation for the many challenges troubling the region
- The head of the northern body also believes that Bola Tinubu, leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), will not be supported if he decides to vie for the presidential election.

Yerima Shettima, national president of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), says the 2019 presidential election has shown that the north has the most number of voters.
Speaking in a telephone interview with Eromosele Ebhomele, Yerima also believes that the southeast will support the north to produce Muhammadu Buhari's successor in 2023.

He says the north needs to be compensated
You were one of the first to ask Nigerians to consider a northerner for the 2023 presidency. It looks like the picture is becoming clearer. What are the inner political workings of the north ahead of the election?

In all honesty, we are talking about Nigeria and democracy. We've found out strongly that with what has happened in the last four years if we are still one country or brothers and sisters, we expect solidarity across board without any political hindrance from any quarters. We expect Nigerians to look at the situation around us. The issue of insecurity is highest in the northern part of the country. So many things are still wrong. We were thinking that with someone from the northern extraction steering the affairs of the country, something good should have come to the north. However, the present administration came on board without a clear policy or direction for the country. They used the entire four years to complain and trade accusations. We have a new government currently and complaints have not ceased and it is obvious that from the way things are going, it is clear that the answers to our problems are not here.

Now, the 2019 general election has fully shown that the north has the most number of votes. Yet, we are the ones faced with a lot of challenges. Ordinarily, without any challenge, we would have now decided to cede power to the south. But from what has happened and from all indications, we expect that people of goodwill would be on our side for us to sail through.

The southeast and southwest leaders say it is their turn…

They can say: “This 2019 election has already come and gone. Let us give the north another benefit of the doubt." We know that the government is only projecting the interests of the southwest and the southwest are the major beneficiaries of the government, yet they are the ones agitating to come up with certain elements from the region to take over from the southwest. For us, we feel and think they do not need it because they already have all that they want from this government.

Let them allow us to free ourselves from the shackles of insecurity, poverty and other challenges that we are facing. Again, if they feel this is about democracy and democracy is about numbers, then let us go to the field. It is about votes. So let them organise and we mobilise and see how it goes. We are going to have sympathy from the southeast that we are going to partner with God's grace. The southwest, of course, is our partner in progress but few myopic politicians from the region are doing everything to sabotage the intention of the north so as to continue to get what they want and it cannot continue.

We are saying that the north will definitely produce the next president. In fact, any political party that wants to win the election in 2023 must decide to pick its flag bearer from the north. Any attempt to pick a candidate from any other region would amount to huge defeat for any of the political parties. We have mobilised and organised and positioned to ensure that in 2023, the north will produce a candidate.

We are going to bring someone who sees Nigeria as his constituency, who would truly fight corruption not minding whose ox is gored, who would handle the economy and revamp it, who would make every Nigerian proud and operate a government of national unity in the interest of the country.

We urge Nigerians to understand. We are not saying government is meant for us alone, we are simply saying that at this period, we expect sympathy from Nigerians for a government of national unity to move ahead so that after then, we may begin to talk about supporting the southeast as partners in progress.

The impression you create is that the north should be compensated with the presidency in 2023 because it has suffered insecurity more...

That is just the true picture. Believe me, if the north is allowed to go today without the sympathy and understanding of Nigerians, there will be no north. This is because insecurity is high, the rate of poverty is beyond estimation. The crime rate is high in the north and, compared to other parts of the country, the unemployment rate in this region is higher, to the extent that, today, our northern brothers are running to the south-south and the southwest.

Remember how some of them were recently humiliated in Lagos by the state government. Should things like this continue in a country with a northerner as president? We are only appealing to men of goodwill to consider retaining the presidency in the north. I appeal and urge all the major political parties not to pick anybody from any other region apart from the north as their flag bearers or we will not support. We are prepared for the presidency.

Tinubu has been one of the champions of this administration having assisted in seeing to the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 and 2019. There are speculations that he may be interested in 2023. Don’t you think the best way to compensate him, if he agrees to come out, is for the north to support him?

Simply put, Tinubu's ambition, if true, is a quagmire. I am afraid the north may not accept him. To an extent, the north will not accept him as a Muslim. We have seen recent drama in which politicians turn religion into a tool for themselves. We have seen where a speaker of this country, who is a Christian, went to Saudi Arabia to give an impression that he is a Muslim.

You claim the south-south and the southwest are the major beneficiaries of the Buhari government, but leaders from these regions have always complained about marginalisation. There are arguments that the north has benefitted most...

Tell me where the north has benefitted and where the southwest is lacking. Our man was simply made to be at the helm of affairs, but the benefits of the government go to the southwest. See the government's economic team and how it favours the south and the west of the country. A lot of things visible in the south west cannot be seen in the north. The delay in road infrastructure is now very visible in the north. We now have potholes everywhere and the rate of accidents have increased. Zaria to Kaduna that was usually 30 minutes is now about two hours, thirty minutes. From Kano, you now spend five hours to Kaduna.

But in the past, it was known that the north had far better roads than any other part of the country. What happened?

The roads are now death traps. Every day, we record casualties from the bad roads. We are really faced with challenges. People are kidnapped on these roads and this has extended to coming to their houses to abduct them.

The question now would be whether you have the capable hands aside Buhari that was produced in 2015.

We have people who are more than capable. Talk about integrity and intelligence. It is laughable for people to think that Buhari is the best the north can produce. We have more capable hands than him. We have young and vibrant people who can do better for the country. We will consult widely before producing someone and be sure that anyone we support in the north would be the best for the country.

Do you support negotiation with armed bandits as being carried out by some governors in the north?

I am very uncomfortable with the negotiations and the way the state governors are coming out to tell the world they are negotiating. I don’t know the legacy they are creating. For how long would we continue to pamper the bandits? In the midst of unemployment, you are indirectly telling young people to take up arms so that the government can negotiate with them. It happened in the Niger Delta and some of us raised alarm and said it was not right to negotiate with public funds. All that Nigeria needs to do is sit together and examine ourselves critically and understand where we are going from where we are. Even if you are negotiating, you don’t need to do it so openly because history will always remember you positively or negatively. And in this case, history will remember negatively.

Typical mentality of every northerner, look at how this man just finished there brothers in the Southwest grin
Yorubas will one day realize their true enemies are northerners and not igbos, the man even said northerners will not accept tinubu as a Muslim, in other words he's a fake Muslim grin

You need to understand that Yorubas are far more politically intelligent and sophisticated than you people. Unlike you, we don't go around looking for "enemies" because we know politics is about permanent interest and not permanent friends or enemies. Yerima is fighting for his own political interest. Good luck to him but intelligent Yorubas won't lose sleep over his utterances as we know there are many influential Northerners with opinion different to that of Yerima.

Battles are won in the field and not online. Senator Hanga below neutralises the patently senseless argument of Yerima that it is a Northerner that can save the North. How many years should a Northern leader/President be given to deliver the region from its woes? 50 ? 70? 100?. Senator Hanga sees it differently to Yerima. As usual we will leave the premature ejacu.lation and gnashing of teeth to you emotional Igbos while we get busy crafting strategy.

2023: Senator Hanga reveals region to produce next President, gives reasons

A former member of the House of Representatives and Senator representing Kano Central, Rufai Hanga, has told the North to shelve the idea of remaining in power after President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.

According to him, the power should return to the South and precisely, the Southwest because they will turn things around, adding that it is not because of their (Southwest) loyalty to the North, but because they have done it before and we have seen it.

The Kano-born politician also said that Igbo cannot produce next president by threats, adding that the South East and South South have little or no chance at all.

He said “To me, I wouldn’t want to say that power should remain in the North or rotate to the South, ” he told Sun.

“To me, if I were to be candid, I will rather say power should to go to the South because it is safer and more dignifying for Nigerian politicians.

“At the beginning of the present democratic dispensation, we promised zoning. The South had it, the North had it, the South should have it next.

“That one I am comfortable with. Whether it is suitable or not, that is a different question. For me, I will rather want it to go round.

“That is why I felt we should start from somewhere and begin to search for competence.

“We should give it a trial so that everything will not boil down to ethnic politics. Left for me, I will support the Southwest.

“But if I do that, people will begin to say it is selfishness because I am close to this man or that man. For me, based on competence, I will want someone from that zone to be the next man because I know they will turn things around.

“If given to them, I know they will turn things around. I am doing this for myself or anybody, but for Nigeria. If you want to change things in Nigeria, give it to them. With those I have in mind, I am sure they will turn things around. Nigeria will be better for it.
I believe so. But if another person has it, so be it.

“It is not because of their loyalty to the North, it is because they are Nigerians. Two, they have done it and we have seen it.

“Tell me anywhere else in this country that is transformed to the best place in Africa other than Southwest. No other section of this country did it than the Southwest.

“We started together, and each region was ruling itself. Which region can boast of the best performer other than the Southwest?

“That is why I believe if you get a South westerner, he will do for Nigeria what they did for Southwest. I am not saying this because of their loyalty to the North, I am saying because of their competence.

“This man is competent, he can do it is different from this man is competent he has done it before.

“That I have heard from the section 15 to 20 years. And like I said, we just cannot do things in a particular way because someone has threatened this or that.

“If some applicants come to you for interview and one of them says, if you don’t employ me, your company will crash down, another person says to you, employ me, I will do what I did for the other company to grow and the third one says, try me, I will do my best and you will certainly be happy that you have tried me, who among the three would you employ?

“The most assuring is that applicant than that says, ‘I have done it, and I can do it again.’ That I will do it is different from I have done it before.

“The one threatening to scatter everything already had his fate sealed. One man cannot come and say it is either me or never. It is impossible. This is 21st Century; nobody can threaten anybody that rain will fall. Nothing will happen.

“With Southwest alliance with the Northwest, it is a sure banker the Southwest will get it. Whether they score 2/3 majority or not, they will still get it because when there is no clear winner, there will be a rerun.

“When there is a rerun, what they need to win is simple majority. And where is the majority coming from? Northwest and Southwest. Volume of votes from Kano alone is almost equivalent of votes for about seven or eight states from Southeast or South-south.

“The voting strength from Southwest alone is equivalent of the votes from eight states in the Southeast and South-south. With Southwest and Northwest, I don’t think there is anything that will stop them from getting the president.

“They will have total grip of the Northwest. If they form a strong alliance with the Northwest, I think they may make it. But how do you think they can make it with that alliance?

“Who and who from Southeast will penetrate the North to come and make such alliance? I think the Southwest came early to the Northwest even though they still have some areas they have not touched and which they need to touch. If the Southeast is smart enough to go and tap into these areas, I am sure they will make it.”

Where will Igbo man get votes from? Why do you think they were first to write themselves off as per 2023 and have now settled for playing spoiler against SW ambition for the top job after PMB steps down?

When we tell them that going around fighting and insulting everyone is never a winning strategy they will not listen and instead they continue arguing blindly. Make your bed and lay in it.

That's exactly what is expected of you as you know igbo president will never happen. Igbo president will never be given any consideration, not by any serious mind, not even by igbos themselves.

As for Yoruba, there are two sides on a chessboard, it's a turn-based game and there are professional 4d chess players on this side.

Just let that sink in for a moment.

I don't know why anyone would blame the north for saying this, if anything, it shows they are politically healthy and don't care about what anyone says and are all about their own interests.

The north is leveraging igbo's gift to them. Rather than for igbos to pull their own weight(you can't really pull the weight you don't have)for the president, they want to hand it over to the north forgetting that they won't be Vp forever(that is even if they get it) it will move somewhere else and send them back to square one.

At this point, president is good for Yoruba but regional govt or autonomy is better and what would lead to some kind of conflicts to help Yoruba break free is all I'm looking for out of Nigeria. Even Trump speech today at the UN was mostly about nation's freedom. Yoruba will do way better without Nigeria. Part of me even wants fulani and igbos to come together and frustrate Yoruba to wake up cos trust me, when those two work together, it's all to destroy Yorubaland.

Sir, I doff my hat to you. A very intelligent post. The part in bold font is what I tell hateful Igbos all the time when they claim the North will backstab the SW in 2023 and Igbos are happy to help them do that. Igbos don't understand that we are not like them to drag issues senselessly and keep doing things the same way while expecting a different outcome. Yorubas are resolute and pragmatic. If denied the Presidency , I personally think we deserve and will use to transform Nigeria, then we will simply insulate ourselves and work for subtle and effective regional autonomy from Nigeria as Igbos are unable to fathom. We have always favoured regional independence but always come to the table to negotiate when others shout "one Nigeria" because we are a reasonable people. One thing others don't understand is Yorubas don't fear or particularly favour any option inflexibly. Be it a working 'one Nigeria', an autonomous Oodua Nation or regional integration. Overarching conditions of the day will tell us what to go for.

We did it with setting up the DAWN commission for South West regional integration when Jonathan completely marginalised the SW in favour of the SE and the appeasement of the North. This time it will be different. Many Yorubas believed in the integrity of Buhari and this is mainly why nothing was spared to help him and the North enjoy 8 years in power. If the North then fails to reciprocate that show of goodwill , especially if APC ticket is given to the North, then I believe something will die in our SW political elite and leaders. The last thing Nigeria need is a SW that no longer believe in Nigeria and her unity. Once we get the signal others we worked for lack integrity then we will craft other strategies to aid the progress of our people. We are not Igbos to talk, shout and chest-beat impotently. I also believe as you do that Yorubas will do way better without Nigeria. Yet, because we are politically progressive , we persevere with Nigeria. If we see that remaining in Nigeria will be to our detriment then we will work to change this. You will never see a Yoruba saying "they won't let us go" , year in and year out, if we are committed to leaving. We will simply work for it and achieve what the insincere Igbos cannot.

The presidency of Nigeria will not help anyone, no matter where it goes in 2023.

Nigeria is the case of a car with 'knocked engine'. Rather than be talking about repairing the engine, people are busy arguing about who will be the driver.

I laugh in Chinese

I pray my fellow Igbos totally boycott the 2023 elections, voting helps nobody in Nigeria except a few greedy politicians
