2. Consider Buying from an Authorized Car Dealer
If you have difficulties trusting private individuals, walk down to a car shop (authorized). Here, you don't have much to worry about, even though you still have to be watchful.

3. Try to Spot Fresh Paintings on the Car
If stolen car dealers think that they are wise, show them you're wiser. The moment you start assessing the entire car, fear will grip a guilty seller. This is why I stated in the preferred purchase guide list that you have to look like a pro.

4. Confirm the Overall Looks
Sometimes, there are certain marks left on stolen cars. The thieves may often times not notice much of them. It's now your responsibility to become a detector and figure these things out. Try not to be gullible no matter what or how things pan out.

Ultimately, you can be rest assured that you won't buy a stolen car if you adhere to this guide. I'm also glad with myself that I've shown you how to avoid buying stolen cars in Nigeria. I no longer want to hear those 'stolen cars" stories. Don't be a stolen car dealer, and don't be a stolen car seller. Be smart, if for nothing but for the mere fact that you're a Nigerian. "Oga na belgium" he said, I told him to open the bonnet and when I saw the engine bay, chai, I could see where the chassis was welded....An accidented car! Other checks convinced me it was even a Naija used.

VIN check is only for foreign used. For stolen Naija used, even police dont have any database.

Its better to buy belgium and drive it without plate number then sell it shaps than to buy naija used. God Forbid

How I bought from someone, a nairalander.

I checked vehicle with my mechanic. Car OK.

To make sure it's not stolen, we told seller to take us to the nearest police station to do change of ownership, he agreed. We entered police station. Seller gave all the vehicle paper to the DPO. This showed the seller was not afraid. Police charged us 10k.we agreed and told them we will get the money from ATM.

We left the station and paid the seller immediately.

Stolen vehicle, OK! But when you guys begin to talk about accidented, flooded vehicles like its just some coffin or something that shouldn't be considered at all, it gives me a lot of concern. I happen to be close to folks who specialize in doing car bodyworks and repairs, and I find it quite enlightening, cos the picture I get from online buzzes is very far from actual realities on ground.
