You all are tooooo nice!

A friend of mine in undergrad once asked me to define 'Anger', I did..

That was the day I learnt -
Annoyance is different from Anger which is different from Rage....

He sent me a simple but wicked two line email inferring he will report me to the US immigration.

I mad!!! angry angry angry I was EnrAGeD! angry

I instantly gave him a schooling about what being in status meant + plus additional blasting that weekend. My email was longgg... Like 50 lines. cheesy
I searched for the DHS number to report the matter because he was and still is capable of worse than libel+defamation. Couldn't find a number that suites my complaint.

That night I couldn't sleep, my wife knew I was ready to do worse than sending an email.

The next morning, a Monday - I blast am worse than the previous day. My blood was boiling! And I was physically shaking, rarely slept all night. Rage no good o.
As him say I no go live peacefully, him too no go rest!
Told him this wasn't naija and his intimidation and planned defamation does not scare me and I wouldn't tolerate it.

Before the week ended, I was still mad men... Morning, afternoon and night... I was thinking about him. Almost a full week....
3rd email naim I curse am with style cheesy
Reminded him of all his fuckups since US independence. I tell am say if him message me again... Na police go seperate two of us fight cheesy
Not exactly sha. grin

Na naija we go settle this fight. The insult too much.
Big man wey deh behave like small pikin.

He is an unfortunate man who doesn't want you to progress in life just like my uncle

I have realised almost every Nigerian has a bitter story to tell about a wicked, harsh or dubious uncle especially the ones in the hometown angry

Is it just an African thing? Is it about transfer of aggression or what? Just why the bitterness from uncles?

Like my uncle now, he promised heaven and earth to take me to Germany till now he hasn't. I have accepted my fate. If i don't have money to go to Germany, i go find one sane African country and start my life all over there.

One thing is certain, i won't stay in Nigeria for long smiley

In summary,

On the second part of your question about remaining in status...

One of my papa brothers for USA, my personal person for many years before I arrived in this country..

I arrived in July 2017, barely 30days after, he stopped taking my calls..

He emailed me in August 2019 and said he will report me to US immigration shocked shocked shocked This man get my Sev1s record, i20, most likely my passport too..

If I was out of status what would have happened??
What would he have done out of wickedness?
What would I have done out of desperation?
What would have been my blood pressure reading?

Who can guess what I told him? cheesy
$500 will be yours..
Sorry, I meant $5. grin grin grin

Huh ...for what reason did he want to do such a thing?

Even if he had called immigration on you, ICE will not just come and arrest you just like that.

It takes times through court orders and for a reason too.

The problem is the expectation that we have given ourselves. Do not expect anything from anyone. If your dream is to go to Germany, start working towards it on your own all by yourself. You can do it. It may take time, but you'll eventually get there. Don't expect any uncle to help you. If we start reducing our expectations of people, our disappointments will start reducing.

When I first moved to the US at a young age, I didn't know anyone here. I was told by my dad that a certain son of one of his adopted dad's kids (whatever that is called) was in the US. I didn't care. I did all I could all independently and moved smoothly. Not long after I arrived, I was told a sketchy story that the guy died. How he died, I don't know till this day. But I never cared, because it had absolutely nothing to do with me. If I had connected with him before moving to the US, his death would have probably impacted my life more.

This is not to say we shouldn't learn to connect with others. As a matter of fact, networking is great. It is not about what you know, but who you know. However, there are very many things we can do on our own without having to involve others, especially in this immigrant/non-immigrant move. Let's identify those things and work towards our goals by ourselves. Thing is, many of these our uncles who abandon us when we get here did the whole process on their own, without the support of any uncle. Therefore, they do not owe us any support either. If they could do it, we can too. Let's reduce our expectations or reliance.

The issue was/is supposed to be a simple one. Both of them stopped taking my calls and replying my WhatsApp messages a year apart.
Why? Money. They'd tot I'd come begging them every minute.

The situation was a shameful one for them because I actually tool steps to verify they were available and deliberately avoiding me.

Fast forward to May/June 2019, they are frustrated, ashamed and angry I didn't tell them about or invite them to my my graduation neither do they have or know what to tell people when asked how I am doing...

Lots of people just wanna come here and "get papers". No analysis how they plan to achieve that, what kind of person they can cope with.

From my personal experience, peace of mind na d koko dating out here..

Because you dey find paali doesn't mean you throw away common sense...
This matter requires me to use my laptop + free weekend time + plenty saliva to talk it thru.

I keep telling my padi for naija,

Do analysis of how you plan to get things done before coming here as a student

If you intended to stay here permanently after school, your best bet is via marriage because employers don't really sponsor intl students for H1b anymore

Few things will help you be successful with that:

Don't be out of status. Stay in school

Date extensively. Go on dates, social functions, school activities, join a gym or an activity that interests you. This will help you understand the American culture better. It'll give you an idea of a partner you would understand and relate with. This will help you avoid unnecessary arguments in your relationships and draw you closer to your partner.

Don't be in a rush to file your papers. Read all the informations, speak with your partner. Let him or her be actively involved too. Don't hide information. It might come up during your interview.

When your greencard gets issued, don't start "carrying shoulders" and bail on your partner. You can still loose that sh*t.

If you're in abusive relationship, document everything. Don't take things for granted. Violence isn't something to cope with, it can take your life.

If the marriage eventually didn't work out, don't leave in a bitter note. Remain friends. You'll never know when you'll need someone's signature on a piece of paper especially someone you've lived with.

Good morning all and Happy New Month.
Special Shout out to MackyNaija. I have gone through this thread from start to this point and I must commend you for the hope you have rekindled in me. I have been able to save up a small but substantial sum and would like to leave now,

Please I am very sorry if my question sounds very Awkward. I went to the USA thread from Chapter 1 but I couldn't find where there is a total breakdown of procedures and how to find schools in USA. My brothers and sisters, I am so so tired of this country and would appreciate any help whatsoever. I am a graduate of Parasitology and Entomology with a Cgpa above 4.0. I plan to further my education in Public Health, Or any Health Related course Even MBA. Now my questions.

1) How do I start?
2) What and what do I need to get?
3) I am ready to write any exam but which is better?
4) How do I get the List of schools?
5) Schools with good funding opportunities?
Please, it's OK if you want to finish me before answering me but still try to answer me. Na me need the help.

Best Regards.
1. Start by joining the GRE thread. Writing qualifying exams helps potential schools have a way of measuring your ability.
It also makes you appear as a serious student when you go to the visa interview.

2. Don't understand the question but do not use an agent, you can do it all by yourself. Follow the Gre and student visa thread. They worked for me.

3. I addressed this in point 1.

4. Check online. Decide on what course you wanna do, use school rank, location, current research going on in the department, cost of living, cost of tution to natrow down your list from say 20 to between 3 to 5.
3-5 has costs associated with it. Not too little or not too much choices.

5. You might see someone on the student thread attending a school you want to attend, they will be in the best position to talk about funding.
Some schools post it on their new page when they receive funds.
A PhD is the easier route to guarantee finding.

Are you ready to do what it takes to 'japaa'? Then do a PhD, most come with excellent funding opportunities.
