Advice Needed - He Wants To Quit His Job And Relocate To Dubai by Spiritfun: 12:51am On Oct 02, 2019
I've concluded plans to exit this country in search of greener pastures in saner climes. Currently, I'm irritated by almost everything that happens in this country. Besides that, I HATE MY JOB!

initially, I plan to jet out on or before January, 2020 but I've been nursing some fears lately. This planned movement will consume all my life savings (about N1.5m). I have a friend over there that has been giving me all information on how to go about the movement. Lately, he told me to go for a safety training that will cost about 200k to increase my chances of getting an average job on arrival but this was not in my budget abnitio.

Besides that, the training will be done in four days and the certification will likely be available within a month after completion because it's awarded from the UK. My current employer is not likely to grant me a four days leave under any guise but I think I have to go for the training, anyway.

Though I want to quit my job soon but I think doing that before December will add some financial pressure on me and may likely delay my movement. Honestly, I don't want to spend more than a week in Nigeria after I've quit this job.

I need advice on what to do and how much I'm likely to earn on the average maybe as an OND holder in Dubai. I have some ICT skills and I'm currently running two online courses on Android development and artificial intelligence on Udacity.

Please, help a brother.

Mods, please expose this on the front page.

Hmmmm YOU HAVE CONCLUDED PLANS ABI?

since you have a friend who is OVER THERE, why not ask your dear friend to find out how much OND HOLDERS with ICT Skills are paid?
We can not do that for you o.

You claim you need advice on what to you BUT you said you have CONCLUDED PLANS TO EXIT NAIJA.... does that not sound conflicting... YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT TO DO BRO....

ADVICE is what people ask for when they already know what to do.
You failed to tell us how much you currently make or what exactly you did to get 1.5million.... WITH 1.5M you can be rich for life without working for anyone or stressing your life on any job....

YOU DO NOT NEED HELP.... Wisdom is profitable to direct, you felt it was wise to LEAVE naija, so leave.
Naija is the greenest country on earth but you cant see it because you are looking for GREENER PASTURES.... lol.... well you know yourself better than any of us here on NL can, so you should do what is in your mind but remember this:

THE GRASS LOOKS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE SIMPLY BECAUSE IT WAS WATERED IN THE MIDST OF SHIT!

Naija still has more opportunities than Dubai, but dubai only PUBLICIZED and BRANDED the little they have. My friends in OMAN and DUBAI who work there complain of the HIGH COST OF LIVING....

I told them of many investment opportunities in Naija and they started investing and soon will be returning to start businesses with their R.O.I and wealth of experience.

You can not conclude based on your boss. You may be earning 6 figures o.... while some are here on NL, married with kids and 90k salary is a luxury to them.

I wish you well bro, BUT note this, just because you can not SEE OPPORTUNITIES does not mean NAIJA IS NOT THE GREENEST COUNTRY ON EARTH.

Green White Green suggests that Naija is GREEN which signifies fruitfulness, prosperity, growth, etc but since WHITE MEANS PEACE then we must know that GREEN can also mean that SNAKES are in NAIJA, and knowing this gives you peace as long as you know where they are and how they operate, so you can avoid them.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

Thanks for your input. But let me clarify something. My salary currently is less than 50k and the 1.5m I mentioned is a savings of about 4 years from other sources and salaries after denying myself a lot of basic needs.

As for my friend over there, he's currently earning about 150k with accommodation, feeding, transportation, utilities, laundry all provided by his company. I have verified this from other independent sources around. I can fit in that salary scale with the other allowances.

I understand your point but I've tried some businesses here but the harsh conditions didn't let them thrive. You know how SMEs struggle to survive in this country

Travelling out with good plans and an already waiting help over there is good. I hope that your friend is sincere enough to tell you everything you need to know before going relocating. It will always be tough and hard when you relocate but with good plans and hardwork, it will worth the while.
Don't travel until you hear the full downs of the new place not just the ups.
I haven't stayed in Dubai more than a week but I don't think they are friendly to Africans so check well.

Well sir, you are very right.... but.. I DIDNT SAY ITS ALL ABOUT BUSINESS.
I remember when I was broke and all I had was 500k, I invested in one of these FARMING Agro companies and I get 10% monthly... for life on 6 MONTHS RENEWAL tho, meaning every 6 months am paid my 500k and I have a choice to re-invest it... so it gives me 50k monthly without any hustle or hassle. In 6 months I bought half a plot of Land in an area in Lagos and today the same half a plot is being sold for over 300 percent.

I hope you get my drift sha, but if you friend will help you with JOB, simply travel o

You're right. I'm not expecting it to be all rosy at the beginning but I believe I'll conquer in the long run. I'm a hustler! If I put in half of the effort I put here in Nigeria in a better enabling environment, I believe I'll make it big. I can do any legitimate stuff to stay afloat

I do understand your perspective. As for my friend, he's proven to be a friend in deed over the years. I supported him with 100k when he was jetting out. That is the highest assistance I've ever given to anyone. I trust him with my life and he does same.

While over there, he saw an opportunity and asked me to source for money for him and I went as far as borrowing half a million to support him. It's over five months and he has not failed to pay the returns each month.

I believe we can create a synergy over there to change our lives for good.

As for job, he's watering the ground already for me.

I will advice you not to go to Dubai,I have a brother, our last bornhe was there for 6 months and worked for 3 months without getting any salary. We all warned him,but he gathered money an left for Dubai. We were even sending money to him every week so as to survive. He was deceived by his friend(close pal). Instead of #35k for the processing the guy collected #280,and he also paid about 80k for a job he never paid for. Concert the safety training, don't waste your money on that, any training outside any state in UAE,is not allowed.Lastly, he was sleeping with 13people in a room with #40k/bunk in a month and the beds are full of bed bugs, ask anyone if you doubt it.
Traveling is good, but focus on US,Canada and Australia.
Don't mind my write up,I was sleeping while typing.

The UAE is one of the best in terms of security and easy money. However, crimes committed by Nigerians has drastically
reduced our chances of employment. Bigger firms don't discriminate as long as you have the skills but smaller ones prefer
Indians, Philipinos, etc.

Employ a Nigerian and watch them give many excuses for not being at work and also, a slight opportunity to commit a crime
and they are part of it.

Anyways, I am not even a graduate but my first salary was AED 5,800 (580k naira) with accommodation and medical insurance, Transportation was also free as I worked at the Dubai Airport terminal 3. No previous experience but I received on job training. This I can only classify as grace and persistence as I kept applying and attending open days.

I currently work in a classified Government department where It happens an African had never worked. just for your info, I earn AED 18k (1.8m Naira) monthly, without accommodation and without transport as took a car of my choice on loan and pay just 1000AED (100k naira) monthly. Although very demanding as I am sometimes called at 3am and I must respond by going to the office.

You have roots in IT, Dubai is the best place for IT and trust me, big firms respect Nigerians in this field. Indians are perceived to be the best but
due to cyber frauds emanating from Nigeria, Many IT related jobs are given to Nigerians.

I know a few Nigerians who work in IT at big firms like emirates airline and etihad with a salary of more than 2m naira per month.

My advice: Do not take any advice, and do not expect help from anyone, just be ready to fight a battle until you acquire what you desire.
Forget the degree, have a working brain and some skills, concocted with the ability to learn, be honest and you are good to go.

Lastly, Avoid any so called direct employment. No legitimate entity would employ someone they haven't seen except some shitty job.
Avoid any job that demand for bribe whether an agent or direct.
Any company that ask you for visa fee is illegitimate and will end up impregnating you.

Every decent employer is mandated to pay for your residence visa, accommodation and transport however, some firms give you the choice to choose
whether you want a full package or prefer your accommodation. Visa is a must by company.

Good luck.

What I mean is that there has been a misconception that Nigerians are very Good in cyber, hence the expertise in cyber fraud. I heard it many times.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread, it is one of the most educating have seen on NL, and it's giving me so much to ponder on my views on must we the youth travel outside Nigeria before we make it? Given that the average Nigerian youth now thinks of traveling abroad, are pastures there greener as we perceived it to be? With little hustling what are the chances of one making it abroad, all these questions still lingers on my mind tho.

Right Now Nigerian visa is 2 month and 3 months and recently the government started additional extension of up to 6 months in 2 months each.

Best is that you come with a 3 months visa, do your job hunting, if you get a job the company will convert the visa to a 2 year residence work or 3 years for freezone companies.

Some people sell this residence visas for an equivalent of from 800k naira to 1.2m naira. This is good if you want to be a freelancer as some other small jobs request you to have your own visa.
