Car Dealers Besiege Customs Office With Vehicle Documents by prof2007(op): 3:46am On Oct 04, 2019
Car dealers on Wednesday 2nd October 2019 visited the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’ with documents of their vehicles for inspection. This followed the raid on some car sales’ outlets in Lagos by men of the NCS Comptroller General’s task force and officers attached to the FOU. This led to the closure of a number of car marts.

It was gathered also that those who had their papers inspected were later escorted by the Customs officials to the car sales points for further inspection of the vehicles. “If the vehicles are found to be genuinely imported, the shops would be opened,” a customs officer told our correspondent.

Customs had shut some car marts inside the popular Berger Yard along Oshodi Apapa Expressway on Saturday.

It was learnt that the service shut the marts on suspicion that they harboured cars smuggled into the country through the Seme border.

Many did not read the article and commented based headline, let us try to read before we comment.
Those who have no skeleton on their wardrobes are doing the right thing, while those who are neither importing nor exporting are ranting on social media.
Kudos to the custom officials.

People dont get it yet.

Its ember period, this is a prelude to seize cars at asaba bridge head, Benin and Ore Expressway. As the igbos are known for taking new cars home in the yultide season.

Next Is fuel scarcity

And burning of shops owned by igbos after the holiday.

It's a circle
Pay close attention to your environment

hmmm. it really makes a lot of sense when is being done in a proper way cos there are instances where car dealers will sell car with fake custom papers (charge everything inclusive) and later the custom now impound the car from buyers after purchase. just imagine someone paying double money just because of custom paper.

They lock up the dealership and ask u to verify ur papers. Its been on since last month at sm areas on the mainland. My frnd had his own ordeal last month and his shop was locked for 3weeks despite verifying his papers. Their claims was 1 or 2 cars had short payments. Which he disagreed with them. They wanted settlement bt he wasn’t ready to do that. Called the clearing agent to explain they were still adamant cos of settlement.
