Mujtahida:
Local players dem era has passed. Let kog45 come tell us what it looked like during the 80's. From the 90's with the crop of Amokachi, Oliseh, Babayaro and others, Nigeria transitioned to using foreign based players and has not looked back.

Local players are simply not just good enough. This is the reality. But instead of going for the best, we would bring in sabotaging criteria like 'we must have local league players in the NT', very much the same way we use stupid criterion of tribe and religion to select leaders.

"So long as he's from my tribe, I no care." This is how most Nigerians think. A Nigerian would rather vote in a thief from his tribe and religion than a sound and astute technocrat who is of a different ethnic and religious stripe.

Local league players no good, dem no just good. They have been tested many times and they have failed abysmally. There's something deficient in them that makes them fall short of the intelligence required in today's game.
THANK YOU

Because majority will not allow their child to play. I know of one rich boy who wanted to be a footballer. His mother didn't allow him despite the fact he passed Manchester United trial.

The guy ended up going to a university here.

Even average Nigerian will not allow.
How old was he when he passed the trial.

Plan A and B leaving both options open. Some of these guys don't make a decision at a young age so as to mess up their chances of good income and endorsements(Iorfa's dad mentioned something like this).
WE all know how much being an "English youth international" carries.
Dominic Dad talked about how his son was being targeted with discrimination because he was considering playing for Nigeria.

You must be a very sentimental person. You just started reeling out our young players names as if they are basically in our first 11. Aside from Man city Chelsea has the best midfield in EPL Kante,Jorginho,Kovasic,Rueben loftus Check,Mount( who by the way has been a revelation so far and has 3 goals to his name already). The only players that can try would probably be Madison,Ben Chillwell and Vardy. Chelsea are unfortunate to have lots of unfit players but that doesn't mean that Leicester has a better team and you saying otherwise is just being sentimental.

Sorry I wouldn't want to derail this thread. I rest my case.

Guys in the end it's a matter of the heart. I am Nigerian and also British. Had I been a player in a position to pick between playing for either country there is no way on earth I will be as happy banging in goals for England as I would doing it for Nigeria. My heroes are Yekini, Finidi, Okocha etc...

Now...my cousins are dual nationals as well and they will rather wait to play for England until they retire then even think of playing for any other country. Their heroes are Lineker, Gascoigne, John Barnes etc. I don't judge them it's just the way it is...

My son is only 6 years old and as much as I try to make him realise we are Naija first and British second he is naturally more aligned with his British side, from his mum, school, neighbors etc if in the future he was a football player I honestly feel he will be happier playing for England. Who knows eh
I really can't say too much personally because that would be too loose anonymity.

But I will use the Biblical phrase, " Bring up a child in the way of the Lord, and he will not depart from it"

Now let me give you my personal transposition of that infallible word from a Warri perspective.

Bring up a child as a Warri Pikin, he no go carry lass, Eéeeeeee go chop Ukodo and not potato, Eéeeeeee go Dance OKOMOKO and not British pop, he go yarn well wellu, anytin Papa talk eeee go follow, NO SHAKIN.

I was born in the UK but made in Warri by Warri parents.

So I strongly disagree with you. SORRY NO VEX

Yeah, in 2014 i had spent some time in Bamako and I can tell u that Nigerians are many over, there what left me agape was when I visited Sikasso, this place is no close to any average town in south west, I came across a couple speaking yoruba who live there. I was so excited I got talking with them, though I had my suspicion as to their reasons being there, I was made to know that even at this Sikasso there is a sizeable number of Nigerians.

Wc one is prejudice.. Am saying d fact, even d bukayo saka guy,dts claiming nigerian according to chriskel post,am still not feeling comfortable with d report, cos am cin dt saka guy to become an integral first team starter of arsenal soonest with his recent performance, once he's having constant performance, and British media hypes him to heaven as usual, don't b surprise, saka might change stance, once he sees dt d senior chance is sure.its a no brainer, like tbaba will say we can't compete with England in terms of player tussle...

Its just like a fresh engineering graduate seeking a job... He got two offers from shell(England) and a teaching job(Nigeria)...wc one will he go for? grin...its when d graduate has no job offer, after so many attempts on getting his dream job,he will now settle for anything to survive...dts d exact scenario playing out with d British-nigerian players smiley

safarigirl:
how many village meetings do you take your kids to? angry

Yes, society plays a role, but then, a child can only identify so much with what he is exposed to.

For instance, I fiercely identify as Igbo, but I was neither born nor bred in the East, I wasn't even surrounded with Igbo people growing up. I haven't been to my father's place in almost 18 years, I barely identify with them, but generally, I am fiercely Igbo, by some weird occurrence.

Same way certain people may not have grown up in Nigeria, but fiercely identify as such from years of what many would term indoctrination.

When it comes down to it sha, there is no manual for these things. Some will identify, others won't; like John Boyega and Chiwetel Ejiofor, both British-Nigerians, one barely identifies with his Nigerian side, the other infuses his Nigerian side in everything. There is also the end that, children are more likely to identify with their mother's side than their fathers most of the time, so, I understand where wayodude is coming from.

For instance, if someone like me marries an abroadian, the way I will soak that child in Banga soup and Egusi, your Nigerian accent will be popping from the abroad sef grin
Nne beeco what do you mean by abroadianhuh

In otherwords you believe in bigoted discrimination and prejudice.

If you are the future of Nigeria, then the NATION IS DOOMED.

You will enthrone MEDIOCRITY over EXCELLENCE in the basis of were you were born.

Shockingly you might even be educated yet steeped in REGRESSIVE thinking.

Yeah but according to Komekn those like Tammy Abraham, Dele Alli must be forced to be 'fully Nigerian' even if they don't want anything to do with Nigeria
You obviously have not read my write up about Dele Alli. I went into indepth detail why he has no reason and is indeed very bitter about a Nigerian Father who abandoned him too the care system in.the UK.

Tega case is totally different.

I think Saka was the one who was interviewed and stated unequivocally that he is Nigerian. Getting those ones are easy. Has Tomori or even worse still Tammy ever ever identified as Nigerian? I don't think so.

If people can consider what these players identify as, not everyone will be feeling so disappointed afterwards.

Arnaut Danjuma is an example. During one of his interviews he spoke of Nigeria as one distant place he's not familiar with. Few weeks later the opportunity came and he flew at it, joining the Dutch team.
Identity can be a very convoluted concept.

What do Nigerian overwhelmingly identify with above any other component, and are prepared to sell thier nation and people for no
Matter the cost. What thing makes us in general nave no iota of conscience and or integrity.

It's very simple MONEY.

Hypothetically speaking, imagine the entire Nigerian U20 team born and bred went to the USA for a tournament.

After the tournament they were all given the option to change nationality to play for the USA. How many do you think will return back to Nigeria.
❓ ❓ ❓

So this your proposition is essentially hypocritical knowing our nature in general.
