I love your site especially as you used materialize Css.

Nice concept, I'm also a learner but understand you used Api from different sites to feed the user searches right?
MountainView:
What I'm going to tell you right now is nothing but the truth.

The common way web developers like me earn is simply freelancing
and the thing is, it's just once in a while that we see these opportunities.

as for jobs, It's not easy to find one, and it's because of the fact that there are only a few websites in Nigeria that would require employing hundreds to thousands of developers, just like we have in advanced countries.

So, what I'd advice you to do is simply look for a problem that you can solve with your Technology skills, and people would pay you for it.

That's how we have the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Quora, Google e.t.c

like I'm doing right now with the one on my signature

Generally, it takes time to establish yourself in the industry . But with dedication and commitment you will surely laugh last. My cousin brother motivated me to join the train as i speak to you he is in Dubai working for an IT firm . His pay is more than 200k in Nigerian currency but he spent roughly 4 years practicing before he got the job. For me i have only executed one job. But you must have works you did to build your portfolio. I studied Applied geophysics, so don't allow your course of study(biochemistry) to discourage you. That one is just ordinary paper.
you need css, html, javascript plus a backend language like python, php, java, c#, c++, kotlin, R etc

200k as a developer is not encouraging. It's very very small. A developer with 5 years experience should earn at least 700k in a month working for a firm

i used ReactJS/Redux for the front-end

as for the API, i wouldn't call it API, cos those websites are not aware of it.

I've had full time job twice from experience as a self taught developer, your assertion is wrong bro

This is actually not true, am a self taught developer and I have worked for organizations both foreign and domestic both as a developer and a consultant.

Your experience and projects matters alot, regardless.

I now run my own startup called www.codefixbug.com and I have self taught programmers who are on my team, they are also highly skilled and gifted just like me.

Kind regards

grin grin dey there, na so visual basic no know when na time to retire lol,
kotlin for native android apps, even google has dropped java as its official mobile app development language a while back.
flutter and reactNative or ionic for cross-platform apps. (flutter is gaining massive traction these days)

Java and spring is still king for enterprise level backend dev though, you can't take that away
Kotlin still depends in java standard library. And most of the useful libraries are written in java. Koitlin just leverages on it's interoperability with java to keep up.
Java still remains king in mobile. Do you know how many thousands of libraries Java has that google haven't yet written a kotlin equivalent.
Koitlin is good. But when it comes the vastness of libraries, toolkits for rapid development and APIs. Java still beats it hands down.
Moving from java to kotlin won't be that hard for a java programmer tho.

How do you write a Program to Print A, B, C and D...

Let me write mine too:

Salary = input("input your Friend's salary)
Salary=float(salary)
If Salary>700000:
Print("Nice for a Developer"wink
Elif Salary>=500000:
Print("not Bad and not the Best)
Elif Salary>=300000:
Print("Bad for a Developer with Experience" )
Else:
Print ("Very Bad for a Developer with 1year and.
above Experience " ).

His Salary falls in that last Conditional statement

your advice is misleading. I didn't study computer science but I've been on different jobs as a python developer. Now on >400k salary.. please encourage people. All the jobs I had no one ,I mean NO ONE demanded my certificate or School I went to.
Hello sir. What does your work entails? Do you use python for web or data science that earns you that much. I use django tho.

Do not listen to his wrong opinion. Programming has no barrier to entry and in the Tech world, certificates does not count. All that matters is your private projects.

Liar.

If you know what you are doing, people will hire you.

The tech industry is the only place where you are not asked for certification or grade before you are hired. Just be good and show previous projects you have done.

Very well said! I studied Mechanical Engineering in Uni, but I started learning programming years after I graduated. I didn't just learn wordpress, I learnt HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, Laravel, Angular, Vue.js, Node.js, Typescript, MySQL, NoSQL. I didn't go to school to learn them, I took many courses on YouTube and Udemy, and I did many personal projects to practice what I was learning and I was very consistent in my learning process. I didn't give up even when I faced many hurdles I found difficult to cross until I crossed them. From the day I started my first course beginning with HTML to the day I got my first job in the industry as a Junior PHP developer was about 13 months. After being on the job for about 6 months and I updated my CV to include my few months of experience plus the other new technology stack I had also learnt since I started my first job, I posted my CV online and updated my LinkedIn, and I started getting regular job offers from recruiters almost everyday. In order not to exaggerate, any week I don't receive offers from recruiters to accept their interview invitations for a job they have available, I receive nothing less than 2 invitations. There are some days when I receive up to 3 different invitations for job interviews and I haven't applied for any of them.

The point is this; be very serious with your learning. Don't go into web development just to learn how to build wordpress websites. And don't be a mediocre. Push yourself consistently and keep learning and practicing, and after a while jobs will start chasing you. Don't go into this industry so that you can get a job after 3months of training or even after 6months. You need to give it time and consistency. In fact, if I were to advice a novice who wants to start now, I will tell them to budget at least the next 18months of their life to tedious learning from courses and practicing, and to be honest, if they follow this rigorous procedure, even before the 18th month, jobs would be looking for them. Again, don't expect to be learning like only 10hours or less a week and be able to achieve this target in that 18months

Most of the good programmers in Nigeria today didn't study computer science.

Pcguru, a popular programmer on this platform didn't study computer science.

Dhtml18, who has now deactivated his account, another popular programmer here didn't study computer science. In fact, Dhtml18's case is very interesting, because he studied medicine and surgery, became a qualified doctor but he is not practicing medicine, rather he's programming and he has worked with many notable organizations.

Note: there is a world of difference between a web programmer and a WordPress installer.

If my input is a string it will definitely crash .Your code is really scary . Definitely string can't be converted to a float . And also your code didn't follow the DRY principle .
