If you have passion for innovations, Coding and Programming is the Best to look at. You make more money being a programmer but it takes a lot more time to develop into what you wanna be. You dont go into IT for the Money but the passion for IT. I have a friend who work for Ericson. It took him 5years to nail that connection.

Ericson provides Solutions for MTN, FirstBank, Airtel and Glo(not very sure about Glo). So bro. You are on the right track Bro...

Testing is another Branch of IT. A Software tester makes money too but not compared to a programmer(one who designs and write the codes for a program). For manual testing, you need no knowledge of coding. But little knowledge is required for Automation testing.

I was probably in your shoes about two years ago, about to enter this new field everyone is talking about but unsure of the prospects in it.

I summoned the courage to start and everyday I always check all these job search sites to be sure the prospect is there. I just continued learning as much as I can from the basics to the advanced concepts and presently I work for three companies remotely. I sleep anytime I want and I wake anytime I want as long as I deliver.

May I let you know that, of all the three jobs I got, degree was not part of the discussion nor criteria for employment since I was able to demonstrate my skills and they saw the value in me, they gave me the shot.

So when it comes to software development (web, andriod, IoS, Dev Ops, etc) your degree doesn't count, it's what you can do that matters. The value you can provide.

So dear just keep learning and keep adding value to yourself, jobs will come and money will come because time is not money but value is money. Your value will determine your pay in most cases.

your advice is misleading. I didn't study computer science but I've been on different jobs as a python developer. Now on >400k salary.. please encourage people. All the jobs I had no one ,I mean NO ONE demanded my certificate or School I went to.

U are good to go being one. You just need some experience to break into the right industry.

If you are one, I will advise you follow "Victor Asemota" on Twitter. He is an IT Don, he own a very Big IT firm, follow up with him to get some innovative ideas from his tweets. You can break into those industry with the required experience

I won't advise you to be a self taught programmer. Find a reputable software company and enroll into a course of your choice. Make sure you stick to it. With regards to your change of course, I wouldn't advise you to get a computer science degree in Nigeria ��.
It is just so trashy. Unless maybe you can afford some of those private university where the needed resources are readily available.
So leave that self taught thing for now. It comes with various challenges that if your passion and interest isn't strong enough, you might quit on the way.
So enroll into an I.t school and do the needful. Or better still get someone to give you one on one coaching.
I have seen some people who tried teaching themselves for 8 months but can't boast of any deployed app on their portfolio.

The common way web developers like me earn is simply freelancing
and the thing is, it's just once in a while that we see these opportunities.

as for jobs, It's not easy to find one, and it's because of the fact that there are only a few websites in Nigeria that would require employing hundreds to thousands of developers, just like we have in advanced countries.

So, what I'd advice you to do is simply look for a problem that you can solve with your Technology skills, and people would pay you for it.

That's how we have the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Quora, Google e.t.c
