It’s in the constitution and fixed in tax laws. In the UK, you don’t tax online investments on securities. I guess that’s where the Nigerian government got it from.

It seems this is a scam. I tried it with my BVN it actually came up with my real name but what surprised me is that it generated another TIN No totally different from my TIN No that I personally applied for and given by the FIRS. I hope the authority is not duplicating nos.

I said it might be a way to capture those not within the tax net, inputting your BVN or NIN as one outside the tax net might be a way to generate a TIN for you if you don't have it already.

I registered mine last month and got the TIN automatically.
