Though I have a soft spot for people in that field- I think they are trying.

If programming was a communicable disease, I would be am expert for all the programmers I have been close to. grin

I am an embedded systems programmer i.e I write programs for electronics hardware for domestic and industrial control systems. I gained interest in programming out of passion to solve problems that cant be solved using a discrete integrated circuit. Programming is used to add high level intelligence to hardware system.

I had interest in programming because I've always loved technology since childhood. All that goes on under the hood, I've always wanted to know. How Konami were able to make all those players run on the screen, and how I press X and Messi knows to pass to the right player. You know, all those things. They all seemed like black magic to me, and I don't like black magic, so I set out to know exactly how and why these things happen as they do.. And here I am! A programmer in the making.

but seriously even good programmers fail algorithms tests, there are good programmers, software developers that are horrible at algorithms
i just read earlier today that 90% of programmers fail the fizzbuzz test in interviews.
but those programmers will have very impressive resumes.

Algorithms is where cs students are supposed to impress, because that's what they do in school, how to solve computer science problems, regardless of language, though in reality algorithms are not so much of a worry. They are mostly used as a filtering process at interviews and if you are aspiring to work at large corporations like the facebook, google, microsoft, amazon, ibm, adobe, intel e.t.c or companies that produce mission critical software, like aircraft, or ship software, or military/defense software (navigation, control e.t.c). (These one will require that you are a cs/maths grad with cum laude before you even start talking code)

Hello there, my fellow programmers and aspiring , now let me ask you,

Why did you choose to become a programmer??

For me, i picked interest after watching the TV series Kyle XY and I've enjoyed the journey so far...

I picked interest in programming when my uncle was always locking his desktop PC and traveled out of town. Me and my cousin picked the lock and started using the PC but took it back before he came home.

Always fun to see the DOS loading on a 486 machine. I did crazy things with QBASIC and DOS (Batch programming) those days. Nobody dare touch my diskette in school.
cheesy grin

I choose it since I was in jss1 just because of the colour the notepad brings when coding then, but now I want to be an app and web developer.

but the journey is quite challenging because I only have a midrange phone.
it's challenging oooh. But javascript is the center point sha. Once you cross that hurdle, the cruise is smooth.

philip0906:

1. Visit learnpython dot org and start with the basics--- start with HTML, CSS & bootstrap then move to Python and Ruby. You can also checkout freecodecamp dot org.

2. Use Youtube tutorials for visuals; Search for "learn python/HTML/CSS full course for beginners" any of the languages you want to learn...You can also check out & subscribe to Freecodecamp youtube channel

3. Sign up on meetup dot com...And select your city of residence. You will join over 5,000 Nigerians who are learning how to code with different bootcamps and learning events organised throughout the year.

4. Immerse yourself in this daily for 8 months...Then apply for Andela's learner or volunteer programs next year April/May

5. If you don't get the opportunity to join Andela, there will be other doors that will open for you (One of the pros of been a programmer)

6. Give yourself this time next year, you will be a self taught programming guru (You need atleast 11 months of intense self learning to be ready to take on very tasking jobs)

7. You will be spoilt for choice of jobs, no matter how little for a start (freelance, remote, contract or salary)...That's a guarantee

Lol well that’s part of it but definitely not all

I was referring to the way computer science used to be taught in our schools. Plenty of people never got to touch a pc throughout their undergraduate years.

Meanwhile fellas, I've got a fairly used but clean laptop up for sale;

- Dell Latitude E6500. Price is 48k (negotiable). The laptop is in perfect condition.

Specs and characteristics: no inbuilt webcam, no keyboard light, has ambient light sensor, has sim card slot, has express card slot, has smart card slot, has optical drive for DVD, has 4 USB ports plus 1 esata port, has HDMI port, has kesington lock, battery lasts for 2 hours straight on, good processor speed (multitasks well); moderate weight (good for mobility); very silent (not a noisy laptop); speakers are loud and clear (good for music & video experience); runs on body-friendly temperature (does not get too hot to handle, thanks to its magnesium body); great keyboard and track pad. Price is negotiable, meaning a last price can be agreed on.

If interested here is my contact, 09038436158 - you can call in or drop a message by text or WhatsApp.

Warm regards.

Can this laptop run Virtual Machines

guy abeg, enough grammar

that is not a code but a simple coding question that even some starters can solve

a good programmer must understand algorithms, algorithm is coding, so how do you understand and solve problems if you dont know algorithm,

guy, most good programmers are self taught, i dont wanna come and argue here but the best brains even without cs/maths or cum laude have worked and are still working in companies you mention, many of the guys that created those companies didnt even have cs degrees
