What are the cultural implications of left in your traditional cosmology?

Why is it feared so much, what punishment is associated with left.

It's like right signifies sun, or good while left means evil, demon, satan.

A couple posted a pre wedding photo once and the fiancee was so scared of left she actually stood on the right side of the groom, making their tshirts out of sync.

The fear was palpable.

Is it a witchcraft thing?

I should care if someone accuses me of "left" with the kind of determination that indicates it's a real crime.

In this day and age.

So, I'm wondering.

And very disturbed by the fact there have been almost no responses at all, maybe due to fear?

I be abami ni? Need to know.

Tpia, I am with Confama on this. I find the thread intriguing but also confusing. If you want any real participation from people you need to provide clarity on what you mean by left.

At least someone even thought you meant left handed, I couldn't even think or guess what left is in this context.

I thought you are Yoruba by tribe what's the connection with you and Edo? Part of my family are from Edo State I may be able to answer your query if I understand it first along with input from my cousins.
1. I've noticed a deep fear among Edo folks, especially Benin (perhaps the ones on nairaland?) about the word "left". They seem to associate it with everything bad and some intense evil.

2. I was called "left" by somebody I assume to be from Edo, he seemed to feel that was the highest insult he could give me, almost like accusing me of a crime or some derogatory stuff.(How can left be a worse epithet than prostitute, I wonder?)

3. There's a thread somewhere, a nler was warning some unknown folks about the dangers of meddling with or attacking a "left", he said they cant win.

4. Etc etc, like the photo where the fiancee stood to the right of the fiance instead of his left and their matching tshirts were out of sync because of this.

It's all very strange.

In the Benin bronzes, the wrappers are tied on the left, is this significant in Bini tradition?

Whatever it is that people call you do not define you. Ignore them and keep being your true self. You can't please everybody.
