Somewhere in Nigeria , some people would have been thinking of how to squander the money , stash them in Swiss banks , build estates around Abuja , Portharcourt , Marry wives , send his kids abroad , but the latest cars . . . . . .instead of building the stadiums

Explorers:
One of the hottest countries on Earth is installing air conditioning outdoors and painting roads blue in a bid to keep cool.

Temperatures in summer now reach a sweltering 115°F (46°C) in Qatar, where the 2022 World Cup has already been moved to winter to avoid the searing heat.

Last year the tiny Gulf state began using air-conditioning in its football stadiums to keep fans and players cool.

But now giant coolers have been installed alongside pavements and in outdoor shopping malls so the temperatures are bearable for people going about their everyday lives.

And in Doha, the country’s capital, the Public Works Authority has painted the Abdullah Bin Jassim Street near one the city’s biggest souq markets the colour blue to reduce the temperature of the asphalt by 59-68°F degrees.

And you missed the point.

You people think I am defending the government, eh?

OK....Qatar is able to afford all those nice stuff because it produces 2//3RD of the oil that Nigeria has, and has less than one-tenth of our populaiton.

Which means, Nigeria has to change its economic strategy...by becoming an industrial nation, which means that we have to change our leaders.

And by the way, if oil becomes useless....Qatar would be broke.

Sorry, you missed my point.
Judging with the intelligence of these people, I don't see any factor that can make them come half as low as Nigeria. Not the fall in the price of fuel, not recession of any kind. Even if they stop putting infrastructures in place, maintaining the ones they presently have will still make them better than naija for at least the next 20years.

I'm sure if they are the ones in Nigeria's shoe, they would have found a way to maximize the revenues gotten from God given resources enough to cater for our over population.

Qatar population : 2.4million people.
Qatar oil production: 1.6million barrels of crude oil per day

Nigeria population: 200million. people.
Nigeria oil production: 2.2million barrels of crude oil per day.

If you want Nigeria to look like Qatar, that means that you would have to deprive 195million Nigerians of their citizenship., and share the oil money among the 5million remaining.

Modified

The above point means in essence that Nigeria must become like China, Japan, Singapore, Germany, and stop arguing over who shares which money, religion, tribe, etc....to become even more prosperous than Qatar.

If you are reading this and thinking I am excusing past and present governments, sorry, you do not get the point.

Nigeria must become industrial and stop relying on oil.

And it isn't just our leaders. Most of us want to become sellers of imported stuff, not manufacturers

And most of us refuse to pay for power, thus no light for industries.

And ultimately no jobs.

And you and me vote for the same bad leaders.
How do Qatar have a water body despite it being so hot?

Yes oo you are RIGHT, this is what Nigeria would have been like if our corrupt leaders were humane enough to loot with mercy. Let our YOUTH see these pictures and ask all our past presidents and cabinet members about accountability. Nigeria deserves better.

We need a serious national campaign and we need to give incentives to families with less than 4 children

Illiteracy is the major cause of high birth rate among poor people in Nigeria. Upwardly mobile middle class are now cutting down on the number of children they want because of their considerations for other things.

They rather prefer quality to quantity of children. I will rather have a single child that I would train in the best of universities with all the exposures to succeed in life than having 5 kids that would sap all the energy I have and poorly train them without them being successful in future and being nuisance to the society.

@bolded. The problem with you folks is evident in ur comment. FYI... There's nothing like 'Largos' in Portugal, my Okoro bloda. 'Lagos' is a Portuguese term for Lagoon. Don't come here spewing out nonsense.

Since you just stated you're an Alaba mkt trader... I hereby rest my case. So much for the Texas born indeed. grin Olofo!

Well they say "illiteracy is a disease", its a bit more complicated than that even though its true

The main aim of having plenty of children is to increase probability that

-at least some will survive to adulthood
-more manpower for working on the farm or family endeavour
- somebody to hand over the farm to and look after them in old age

The quality of being literate means the person is more likely to be able to access decent healthcare, school facilities and other instruments that will help them to maintain their lives and make enough money to eat and live comfortably without relying on their children

After youve accessed those things and youre no longer afraid of your children dying before they are 5 years old or not being able to help you plant cassava, you will begin to consider more abstract things like "Do I have enough time for these children?" "Is my child happy?" And all that other stuff

So it can be easy to label people "illiterate" but really we need to do better by them and offer them better choices in life.

Or we can act like China and brutally enforce a crazy policy that will help us streamline our economy in the long run
