smuggle goods do not pass through Ghana

as everyone knows, Ghana is an expensive place to live
Ghana tax everything that flys or walk .

so if your government is targetting smuggling, it should look within and fix it problems and stop picking a new problem with a country it cant compete with.
you said we can't compete with them when their economy relies on Nig economy to strive do u even know Nig land mass and population n resources if not for poor management by know we would have bought your country well it is what it is, when we restructure Nig your eye go clear, for that fact that your gvt taxes anything that doesn't stop smuggling from your country to ng it is what the gvt see the gvt would tax what about those things the gvt can't see lol see leave Ng o n their border closure and if your gvt is gullible spark a trade war and we would see where it would land your country a word is enough for the wise

besides if your country stops ng traders from bringing in things it would be a blessing in disguise for the gvt cos Mr buha doesn't support leaving the country when things are hard so when things becomes unbearable they will run back home you see I wonder hour you would hurt a country that is made up of a consuming population if we could get it right it will be a win for your country n a win for us but at the moment it is a win for you and a loss for us

you need to check how China is surviving

China has stopped importing all Agriculture product from the US and is getting them from Brazil as US farmers go bankrupt.

Majority of what you reexport to us come from China and are not made in Nigeria so be careful what you wish for.

What is the point of Nigeria if it doesn't collapse and go up in flames, out of its ashes my Yoruba republic shall rise. But before then.

Smuggling is the least of Nigeria's problems, the country itself has been smuggled with your destiny it.

though it pays us somehow but ur bubu is so daft to reason beyond local food production and smuggling activities being perpetrated at the boarder. I see the boarder closure as a bully to the rest ecowas states.

I get your point, really. Jokes apart, the closure of the borders should have been a well-thought out strategy and enough time should have been given to manufacturers, exporters and importers of goods to plan. But while I may not like the present government, and I am nonpartisan but a believer in good governance, one thing you cannot take away from this leadership is the willingness to do whatever it wants to do without being afraid of whose ox is gored. While that has its advantages, it also has its disadvantages. Suffice to say, however, that if the intention for the border closure is to force us to look inwards and the incentives are in place to encourage local production, then don't you think this singular action could be considered a masterstroke of the Buhari presidency? I don't just hate a government for the sake of hating it. This is my country. My father bled for this country and I have a stake in it. If the intention is good and this government gives it all it deserves to speed up local production, then we might as well as tighten our belts and face the consequences once and for all for the general good of everyone.

Your country does not allow cement from Ghana into your Nigeria but Ghana allows cement from Nigeria into Ghana.
so if you continue to block Ghanaian manufacturers from your market, Ghana will also close it consuming market to your manufacturers and re-exporters.

This is a great opportunity for us to grow our local productions. For how long should Nigeria be a dumping site? At this 21 century, you have to rely on importation of Rice, Turkey and Pine Apple. My Brother we definitely have to start from somewhere. We have the very reach fertile soil with over 923,990 land mass.
Just for your information, all the manufacturing companies in Agbara industrial area of ogun state, are in crisis owing to inability to export goods with duty paid to the west African coast via land border, this could lead to massive job cut. Another question is how do we grow naira if we don't export

As Nigeria’s land border closure bites West African countries, the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has called for a total boycott of all Nigerian products imported by Ghana.
The move, the traders union believes, will force the Nigerian government to open up its land borders for foreign goods. Nigeria partially shut its borders since August.
According to Ghanaweb.com, Greater Accra Regional Secretary of GUTA, David Kwadwo Amoateng on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Friday said the Nigerian government has not been fair to foreign traders.
In return, he expects the Ghana government to prevent Nigerian traders from bringing goods into Ghana, but that plea has fallen on deaf ears.
“Either somebody’s bread has been buttered or we are cowards. Government is not being fair to us,” he fumed.
Mr Amoateng cited how Dangote cement had taken over the market while local ones from GHACEM are suffering.
“Let’s boycott Nigerian products as payback to their government’s action. How can we be slaves in our own country?” he said.
Mr Amoateng argued that the issue, if not checked, could hamper the Continental Free Trade Area.
Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has appealed to Ghanaian traders to remain calm as it works with the Nigerian authorities to ease its ban on the exportation of Non-traditional products.

Truth be told, , we are spending billions to fight insurgence and still we keep an open and free land boarder for all , I was at the market yesterday, and I saw people patronising the local rice, sincerely that's the way to go.

Ghana cement does not meet with standards required in Nigeria which is why it cannot be allowed here. However Dangote cement is world class. Most of your property developers use Dangote cement and not even Ghacem. You guys are just empty noise makers.

Ghana cement began operations in Ghana long before Dangote came yet in a short time Dangote cement has taken over the market from Ghacem. Una no get sense charlie

Now tell me,Ghana exports goods worth just 80 million dollars to Nigeria for a country who exports 17 billion dollars worth of goods outside, less than 0.5% goes to Nigeria buh Nigeria exports goods worth 303 million dollars to Ghana in a year.If Ghana bans your goods, tell me who loses more. The minister is just a diplomat who knows how ugly it will be if Ghana retaliates so she's going diplomatic first to tell you to comply ECOWAS protocols .Warning to your country if you refuse her diplomatic settlement. The land border closure has merits and demerits.

On the merit side, Smuggling activities that has crippled local production of goods will stop, increasing income to the government through using the right channel for importers or countries exporting to pay customs tax. Also, there will be spike in the country's local production which with time will sustain the population. Security will be enhanced. People will agree with me that cases of herdsmen attack has reduced in some couple of weeks.

On the demerit side, we will feel the heat as it is now that price of contraband goods has skyrocketed. Yes, more income but government corrupt practices will not make them invest in sectors that will drive local production.

Benin and Niger Republic are the most hit with this land closure. To be honest, we can't continue to bear the fuel subsidy loss and some wicked elements are eating fat on this. If these affected countries need fuel from us, they should go through the right channel and sales will be done with logistics, subsidy and tax levies put into consideration. To think of it, they supply rice to us without payment of tax and any other leverage fees.

As for Ghana threatening Nigeria, they can go ahead but need to mention that Nigeria should recripocate by banning export to or import from Ghana. Those companies who relocated to Ghana because cost of production is high in Nigeria yet Nigeria remains their market will pee in their trousers.

86% of Ghana population have access to improve water and sanitation

47 million Nigerians practise open defecation – UNICEF
80 million in dire need of improved toilet

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has said that no fewer than 47 million Nigerians still indulge in open defecation in the country.

Also, 33 million people in the country use unimproved toilet, while 90 percent of households use water that is contaminated.

Now, UNICEF further said, about 80 million Nigerians are in dire need of improved toilet as unsafe drinking water, open defecation and poor hygiene have remained major causes of under-5 death in the country.

This is coming on the heel of the newly released 2018 Nigeria Demographic Health Survey (NDHS,2018), which revealed that the number of under-5 children dying yearly have continued to increase in the last 5 years.

The latest NDHS document states that under-5 death increased from 128 deaths per 1,000 live births in the 5 years prior to the 2013 NDHS, to 132 deaths per 1,000 live births in the most recent 5-year period (about 1 million U-5 children die yearly).

Many of these needless deaths have been traced to diarrhoea and water borne disease. Latest findings from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources (FMWR) states that more than 100,000 children under 5 die each year due to diarrhoea, making Nigeria the second country with the highest Children’s death from diarrhea.

These deaths could however be reduced if there is an end to open defecation and practice of good hygiene, sanitation, UNICEF-Nigeria Communication Specialist, Geoffery Njoku, told journalists, during an EU-UNICEF sponsored media dialogue on sanitation tagged “CLEAN NIGERIA: USE THE TOILET”, which held yesterday at Tahir Hotel Kano, Kano state.

According to him, there’s a huge link between sanitation, open defecation and child survival, hence the need for all to join #The Clean Nigeria Campaign.

A breakdown of the deplorable situation of open defecation, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) situation in Nigeria, by WASH Specialist, UNICEF-Nigeria, Bioye Ogunjobi states that

“1 in 3 Nigerians does not have access to basic drinking water services. 90 percent of households use water that is contaminated.

In fact Ghana is No 5 study destination for Nigerian citizens. Exactly 6506 Nigerian students chose Ghana as a study destination in 2018 alone followed by Congo 515 (See the difference)
Now let's talk about inflow of Ghanian students to Nigeria. Zero no record. In fact, Ghanuans prefer to study in Bosnia, Grenada and even Czechia 280 students than in Nigeria. Please cut the crap! Do you know how much over 6500 students from Nigeria brings into the Ghanian economy in US$?

I have gotten over 100 mentions about my two comments I just made and how uneasy you Nigerians felt when I gave you the facts and statistics of why Ghana never needs Nigeria buh Nigeria rather needs us to survive. Yes,Ghana is independent in terms of inter African trade.Nigeria is Ghana's number 4th trade partner in West Africa. Meaning Trade between Ghana and three other West African nations which are Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Togo are more higher than trade between Ghana and Nigeria. You rather exports more things to Ghana than we export to Nigeria. The issue of Ghana diplomats is,your irresponsible government didn't even announce this barbaric border closure thinking they live on an island. Although our minister diplomatically agreed with your government to open the border for only Ghanaian registered companies because these trucks had already set off and were at the border when this border closure occurred so they even want to return which will incur a loss to their products. GUTA,your long enemies who hates Nigeria 100% and wants all Nigerian traders out of Ghana wants to retaliate and the government will finally give in to their demands because GUTA is the most powerful trade organization in Ghana and comprises of all Ghanaian traders. We have a purchasing power of 200 billion dollars plus our obedient neighbors who we trade perfectly well with so we never needed Nigeria. That 80 million dollars trade with Nigeria can just slide away without any effect to trade buh GUTA has seized this opportunity to eliminate Nigerian competitors from Ghana which will thus affect the millions of Nigerians living in Ghana and doing imports and exports. That's everything explained. We exported goods worth 17.1 billion dollars to the world in 2018 so 80 million is peanuts of trade returns. And we are currently number 1 in Africa with the largest gold production country beating the leaders South Africa. We produce our own gas now,we never buy refined oil from Nigeria cos you yourself even import refined crude oil.We produce our own crude oil, cocoa is a multi billion dollar industry in Ghana who is number 2 worldwide, this year, over 1 million tourists have visited Ghana thus we earning more than a billion dollars in tourism.

If the intention is good and this government gives it all it deserves to speed up local production, then we might as well as tighten our belts and face the consequences once and for all for the general good of everyone.

you got me on this,it's true this single act can be considered to be the masterstroke of his administration. besides he didn't barn importations,he only closed the land boarders due to neighbouring countries being parasites to our economy. whoever wants to import has other options to explore (sea and air).

you seem to make some sense by been rational in some of your posts, but please don't mix sentiments with the ideal , Nugeria purchasing powers is way more than that of Ghana sir, some of us have once been IN your nation and have seen how far you guys have gone, the major issue with Nigeria is the tribalistic and ethnically inclined leadership,Nigeria is seriously way beyond in Ghana in economics, despite the weaknesses many of our political leaders, don't think the likes of Dangote and Adenuga and Alakija are richest in thier fields for nothing o, it is a reflective of our societal economical influence here. Though most of us here condemned the closure in its entirety as it is a result of the illiteracy level of the leader here .Our poor, population has great powers to boost our local economy and that's what you guys lack out there .the solution to headaches is not in cutting off the head. Our current leader is just not intelligent and bold enough.Else those manning the leaderships of the boarders should be dropped and even charged for failure. But because the leaders were tribalists, they cant remove the very ones they impose on us as the security agencies.Custom failed, immigration failed, police failed, Army and Airforce also failed but the leaders there still retained their offices simply,y because they were brought in by the same man complaining. Why should ars enter our lands without proper divine tatiins for heaven sake ?
sorry tosay you are no where compare to Ghana in economic matters.
and this is not sentiment but fact

the Ghanaian economy is more diversified than yours
the Ghanaian economy is more resilient than yours .

those are all factual statements
Ghana may have a small population, but has made great use of that small population to achieve result.

this is not to say we dont have our own unique problems.
Nigeria really need to get it act together and fix it problems.

the country can start with the recommendation from Sanusi the past governor

As for Ghana threatening Nigeria, they can go ahead but need to mention that Nigeria should recripocate by banning export to or import from Ghana. Those companies who relocated to Ghana because cost of production is high in Nigeria yet Nigeria remains their market will pee in their trousers.
first of all, Ghana is not threatening Nigeria.( GUTA) is not a mouth piece of the goverment but of the traders.

so to correct you further , businesses that fly away from Nigeria didn't do it becuse of cost of product. but lack of Nigeria goverment incentives to buisness enviroment. it is even more expensive to produce in Ghana than Nigeria. Ghana buisness enviroment is one of the most expensive in africa, but goverment initiative to support buisness works becuse the economy gives room for expansion which is the bedrock of productivity and growth, hence Ghana continuous economic growth.

Businesses in Ghana can channel their market elsewhere. businesses are meant to be volatile.
