All these steel and concrete means nothing of value to them. When they heard the bridge will cost 2billion naira their mind started working on how to share the money.

You are so immature.
I dare you to mention any tribe or region that is not guilty of this settlement mentality

That is the truth.

To an average Igbo, if there is no money to be shared, he or she is not interested.

Igbos actually coined the PDP slogan “PDP !!! Share the Money!!”

That is why up till today, majority of them still deny the existence of the bridge because they simply don’t want it done

Another immature entity.
I dare you to mention any tribe or region that is not guilty of this settlement mentality. Am waiting.

If u look at construction of lagos ibandan rail line. You would notice that most of the workers are blacks, mostly Yoruba's.

But come to the 2nd Niger bridge from what I have read they say they use labour force from other regions, north and west in particular. While the indegenes are in a minority. According to local content law it should not be so.

They are nor asking for what is not there's all they ask is the company do what is right.

from what they say?? So you are peeling hear say, you are not even sure of your statement.

Don't change the narrative, contractors know that already, to engage local labour available labour. These communities are asking for settlement, read the article again. The want a project of ₦50M each. More like wanting free money. Won't the bridge benefit them?

Entitlement is never settlement...
My brother i want you to get that...
They should employ some of the indigenes that are qualified not only locals labourers and focus with their work than this excuse...
We just heard from one side oooo...

Igbos are not really interested in that bridge, they will prefer to be using it as a political demand and blackmail so building it will just kill one of their blackmail

They prefer you share the money for that bridge to them.
Since you claim the Igbos don't want development. The Ogonis also don't want their land cleaned? Or what excuse did your lord buhari has for not doing it.

Has anyone here gone to Asaba and Onitsha to hear the other side before jumping to conclusions based on the comments of one partisan individual who could be working for some interest?

Meanwhile, where are the python dancers or as it's called now 'Atilogwu Udo', why are they not deployed at the site to deal with anyone who threatens the project? All this gimmick and excuse is useless

Every region in Nigeria is guilty of this settlement mentality so don't make it look like it's a new thing.

What is typical is to ask compensation for the land govt wants to acquire for a project.

Next, the labour for the job will be localized, in other words direct hires in the communities the project is located or passes through.

The third angle is contract for logistics and the supply chain. This will also be allocated to local indigenes.

What people in other regions dislike is when Yoruba is given contract in Jos for a local work content. When Ibo is given contract for local work content in Lagos. When Hausa wins contract bid for a local project in Onitsha.

So these are your typical grievances and protests.

Yoruba never stop work on a construction site simply because the money is not shared. Dont mix it up.

We focus on the end goal and the benefit of the infrastructure to our communities.

The report here is not typical because the contractors and labour is all local and indigeneous. They are just not content that 2billion naira is going to steel and cement when instead it should be in their hands. They want to direct the project.

In the past that was done. Govt give the project management to the leaders in the area to get the bridge done. The contract was renewed in every Administration since 1970. What happened? No bridge!

Jonathan paid your leaders to build it...they shared the money.

Buhari has refused to give to them and put the project under FG supervision. Its making progress but no money is flowing for sharing and they see bridge will soon be completed. Something has to be done to get share money.... This protest and work stoppage is a sabotage.

Fg must order back to work or sack all of them and go recruit labor and contractors from neighbouring states. - Edo and Kogi.

It is part of big project undertaking.there should be a contingency plan for this and actions taken to minimise the obstacles, not crying foul.

Julius Berger and their cohorts in government have been getting away with a lot, now the communities where they operate are beginning to see themselves as stakeholders, let them deal with it.

Most of us talk out ignorance. In the Northern part of Nigeria, the government pay the people for any developmental project in their community. Where the government failed to do so, such projects are stopped. These are done without media attention.
Land has to be purchased from a community to build a Health Center for them. Road projects are stalled because the government is yet to compensate the community.
I live in the region and I'm close to those involved in these projects. One stalled road project is currently affecting my operations.
One system should be used for every region.

This project is not different from Loko/Oweto bridge linking Nasarawa n Benue, communities on both sides never demand for any kobo and the only present development on both sides is only the road. Today the bridge is 85% completion and vehicle are allow to pass the road between 12 noon n 3pm. Travelling from Abuja to otupko is less than 4 hours, abuja to night mile is less than 6 hours. This is a very useless and heartless demand from this people.

I once worked on a federal govt project in Benin city, NPDC project to be precise. Non-indigenes/non-south-southerners made up over 80% of the workforce even when the indigenes were willing to work. They still allowed the project to go on but when it happens in other regions, all hell is let lose. Igbos won't allow non-indigenes, hausas/fulanis won't and yorubas won't also. But south-south will be assumed to belong to everybody, same way oil is treated. We must learn to use the same measure for everybody. What u don't allow for yourself, don't use for others.
Why are u shouting Igbo this Igbo that you are the sentimental one here.

The article says both delta and anambra communities are stopping work but you all are singling out only igbos

Not correct, how come communities suddenly have the power to stop a national project, where is Operation Python Dance that some of you advocated to be deployed to the SE, why are they not providing security at site but guarding the house of Nnamdi Kanu in Umuahia sad
