I don't know why people keep going on and on about 'emotions' This movie is supposed to be 'live action' and I have tried to imagine my dog smiling, but can't. The fact is animals have a very limited range of facial expressions and I'm pretty sure that's what the producers were trying to convey. Their emotions can be conveyed through their posture and body movement, nuances in the sounds they make and slight alterations in their facial expressions, so expecting live action animals to look like and behave like their hand drawn cartoon counterparts is very unrealistic.

The movie is a depiction of the intrigues and power struggle in the animal kingdom using puppetry and hyperrealistic CGI and they did a very good job. I watched the movie with a very open mind and was thoroughly entertained.
Human beings will always create reasons to justify their dislike for anything or anyone.I have not seen anyone complain about the lack of 'emotions' on the faces of the animals in the 2016 live action remake of Jungle Book

Oh yes, Jungle Book. I remember thinking their expressions were rather plastic

Hobbs and Shaw: 7/10.

Didn't go in expecting much.

The interplay between Johnson and Statham had me laughing.

The cameos and pop culture references were top notch.

Just hope we're getting a sequel.

It will be an absolute disgrace if a great actor like Joaquin Phoenix wins an Oscar for portraying a comic book character

Dear, that's the main reason why not all movies (cartoon/ animation) deserves a live action adaptation . Because making a live action of such movies coupled with the hyperrealistic features(all thanks to the CGI) strikes out the emotions & causes a type of cognitive dissonance that removes the viewers further away from the story. I slept of twice while seeing the movie because I knew the story & secondly, nothing about the live action held my attention. Simply put, it lacked creativity & had nothing new to offer.They should have at least expanded the story, for instance, they should have told us more about some of the characters, take Beauty & the Beast for instance, the story was expanded, at least we got a backstory to one of the main characters(Beast)
The technology behind the movie was jaw dropping, it's a fact. But having something as real as this, takes away the emotions in the original characters.
My sis to be frank, I didn't see any emotions conveyed through their posture and body movement, even the voice act of some of the characters were horrible & finally, the characters were just too shallow, one doesn't really learn much about them to care. You're a dog lover right?, Do see Homeward Bond: The Incredible Journey 1 & 2 . Now based on the emotions exhibited by these animals( facial expressions excluded), compare the movie to The Lion King live action & tell me what you think. Funny enough, Disney don't really know when to quit as regards making live action movie adaptation, i wouldn't be thunderstruck if they woke up one morning only to decide to make a live action adaptation of TOY STORY.
You can't compare Homeward Bound to Lion King, bro. The former is 100% live action and the animals are trained, while the latter is CGI rendition.
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by armadeo(m): 12:19pm On Oct 21, 2019
@mekapryme.

I completely agree. I said before that the movie was below par and couldn't even proceed with it.

You hit he nail on the head.

Nothing disgraceful about that if he gets his Oscar portraying a comic book character. The character is not the importance, it's the job he does while portraying the character that matters. Heath Ledger got an Oscar portraying the same character. Oscar na Oscar, as long as your performance was worth it, the character you portrayed doesn't matter.

I've seen people win the Oscars with lesser/sketchier roles. At the end of the day, it's more of what you bring to the table as an actor, than the probity of the role.

We're barely 3 months away from bidding this decade goodbye. This decade has been a fascinating period for filmmakers. Emergent talents caught a break, veteran filmmakers rediscovered their X-factor, while some got chewed up and spat out by the unforgiving movie machine. From the old to the new, who amongst the top filmmakers impressed you the most this decade (2010-2019)? My top 6 are;

- Christopher Nolan (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar, Dunkirk)
- S. Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk, Brawl In Cell Block 99, Dragged Across Concrete).
- The Russo Brothers (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame).
- David Fincher (The Social Network, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl).
- Denis Villeneuve (Incendies, Prisoners, Enemy, Sicario, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049).
- Quentin Tarantino (Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood ).

Sicario... That movie is so violent and graphic. I couldn't bring myself to finish it because I'm super squeamish. I did like the soundtrack though

It's a very visceral film. Very tense and violent. The amazing score is one of the best part of it.

The gritty soundtrack is the best aspect of the movie, IMO. It promises the viewers horrors to come.
