Customs Seizes Foreign Rice, Vehicles Worth N145m In Niger State by ManirBK(op): 10:33am On Oct 25, 2019

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Niger and Kogi Area command, has seized imported rice, vehicles and second hand bale clothing with duty paid value of about N145 million in the third quarter of 2019.

The Comptroller in charge of the command, Yusuf Abba- Kassim, announced this while displaying the seized items before newsmen in Minna on Thursday.

Mr Abba-Kassim said a total of 3,529 kilogrammes of imported bags of rice with duty paid value of over N62 million were seized by officers and men in different parts of the area command.

According to him, 2 used vehicle’s with duty paid value of over N32 million were also seized under the command’s new anti-smuggling strategies which he said had been yielding positive results.

He said that 1, 018 bales of second hand clothing with duty paid value of over N48 million were seized within the command’s area of coverage.

The comptroller said the command had also arrested one DAF diesel tanker with registration number RBC 05 ZS suspected to be concealing 500 bags of foreign rice on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.

He described smugglers as economic saboteurs and advised them to desist from such act.
He said the command was committed to the eradication of all forms of smuggling activities within its area of jurisdiction.

All these seized bag of rice, instead of being left to decay in the custom's yard, I recommend it be distributed to the orphanage homes.

Although am not a Buharist but on the closing of border ,I'm in support of that, the local rice i bought is neat & free of stone 19k, if they package it in the bag of foreign and sold it for me for 26k , i wouldn't have know that the content is local

One should quit buying costly foreign rice for now because one reporter actually talked to one of the people at Benin/Nigeria border who are now bagging Nigeria local rice into the foreign rice bags because many Nigerians wanted foreign rice. Suppliers have no foreign rice to supply and foreign rice consumers can't actually differentiate between imported rice and some Nigerian local rice. So, the swindlers capitalised on it, selling local rice as foreign rice to mumus

You know, some people would sit in one corner of their rooms and would be fabricating lies about how only the southern borders are closed while northerners are allowed to smuggle items at will. How northerners are selling foreign rice to one another at 12k! Lol
