wat abt fresh graduate from those field sir?
bigtt76:
I actually don't see anything wrong in this. If as a lecturer I can handle multiple courses in multiple universities ....why not? If for example, I have multiple degrees in different fields (Computer Engineering and Mathematics) and I lecture Computer Science at one university and the other University requires a lecturer in Mathematics ...if they appoint me, I would gladly take it so far as it does not clash with my lecture schedules in the first university.

Not possible to eradicate. U can only stop Federal University lecturers from working in other federal universities not state University or Private University

Won't work for all lecturers.

1. LECTURERS FROM FACULTY OF LAW HAVE TO PRACTICE LAW FULL TIME OR THEY WON'T BE ABLE TO TEACH TO THE BEST STANDARD.

2. LECTURERS FROM MEDICAL FACULTIES HAVE TO PRACTICE MEDICINE FULL TIME FOR THEM TO TEACH MEDICAL STUDENTS.

3. THIS APPLIES TO PHARMACY AS WELL

4. IF ENGINEERING WAS A "PRACTICAL" COURSE IN NIGERIA, IT WOULD BE UNDER SAME CATEGORIES.

RULE WILL WORK ON ALL THOSE SOCIOLOGY LECTURERS.

This is not the issue being discussed here at all. The issue is not practicing on the side. The issue is teaching full time at more than one university. TEACHING FULL TIME.

Exactly what I'm trying to say here. I'm sure every university defines the number of hours a 'fulltime' lecturer is expected to observe on campus to be so recognized as one and if the 'lecturer' cannot meet up with that requirement, then s/he is recognized as part-time lecturer.

iyatrustee:

There is nothing wrong except that you have to be a Full staff in only one institution and a part time lecturer in the 2nd. What IPPIS will curb is being entitled to full pay from both university.

FG should go ahead and do that . These lectures are responsible for the decay in the system and societies, they students rely on sorting, sex for marks because the so called lectures demand it thereby making students not to read and study knowing they will sort .They also promote cultism behind the scene.

Lecturing is not a full time job... just like legislating

However what we have in our higher institutions are students who finished from the university going on to lecture and perpetuate the cycle of mediocracy that was passed to them.

Wonder why mechanics call bearings "boris" or catalytic converters 'indomie"? This is what was passed down from their master. You have these "lecturers" coming to class to dictate notes that they used when they themselves were students. They do not encourage critical thinking...just come to class, read notes, sell handouts and set exams based on the handouts!

Lecturing is not a full-time job and a lecturer should not be constrained to one university

The Social Media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie has responded to the rejection of the Integrated Payroll and Personal Information System IPPIS by the Academic Staff Union of University ASUU.

Lauretta Onochie in her statement stated that every lecturer should be committed to one University that pays their salaries per month.

She said,

At least, the lectures are working.
The president Buhari you campaigned for and still defend spends most of his time hunkering abroad to shake hands with other world leaders, while Nigeria deteriorates. He tells barefaced lies of two weeks private visit abroad, whereas his going on medical trip he deplored during his presidential election campaign,

Exactly and state and private universities are not on IPPIS.

So the argument by Lauretta is flawed. Can only affect Fed lecturers

You almost made sense tho'

But Government isn't against them practicing their profession, Government is only against receiving multiple salaries from multiple institutions thereby reducing the level of commitment they have on their jobs.

Breaking it down further, a lecturer working with U.I will say he's going on sabbatical in Unilag and he receives Salary from both UI and Unilag, so govt is saying, only one salary is enough for one lecturer and if he feels like doing more, it's due to benevolence.

No body is saying that the lecturers should not take per time job with other universities the problem is taking full time jobs while there are other qualified graduates with good grades that can do the job. To me it is a good step in the right direction if ASUU knows that their members are clean let them accept the IPPIS and we Nigerians will still continue our prayers that the Federal should cut down their expenses and the political office holders and retired political office holder should stop receiving double pension too.
