Investments and remittances

Brexit presents significant economic and political uncertainty. For the average investor, unpredictability means danger! Foreign investors would be weary of investing in emerging economies such as Nigeria’s. Over the years, Foreign direct investments (“FDI”) in Nigeria has declined significantly by a cumulative average rate of 19% between 2014 and 2018 with the largest decline recorded in 2017 and 2018 (post Brexit referendum periods).

On the other hand, remittances to Nigeria is the second highest in Africa growing at an average rate of 4% between 2014 and 2018 with the largest growths experienced in 2017 and 2018.

Although correlation does not imply causation, we could assume that Brexit has contributed to the trend experienced in both FDI and Remittances. This could continue in the foreseeable period following the breakup of the UK and EU’s economic relationship

I think it is a stretch to say Brexit impacted FDIs without indicating the extent. You left the recession, you left the foreign exchange crisis and went all the way to Brexit? I do not think Brexit moved the FDI needle in any significant manner. Our own troubles did a good enough job.

It will benefit Nigeria so much especially Nigerians in the UK.

Normally as an Eu state Eu citizens get more preference in jobs recruitment over u an African immigrant but with Brexit all of u are equal in the Jobs markets

I'm interested in that 'brain drain'... Me am looking for ways to leave also, someone should help me o.

Brexit would only affect or impact Nigerians positively. Massive brain drain is expected because most of the EU expatriates would leave the UK and that would in effect create vacuum amongst the ever-lazy Britons. GBP is now becoming weaker by the day and eventual Brexit would make it lose its values woefully. UK must exercise caution in this selfish move.

FYI, you need to educate yourself on EU's rules and regulations governing free movement of persons with an unbiased mind. It is no one's fault if the British government would moan rather than implement measures to secure its borders.

there was a referendum won by the majority to decide brexit but just because the minority doesn't like the outcome of the election, they are now asking for another one also using delaying tactics against a so called democratic process. what is the power of the majority carry the vote then.

Wait till the British turn Africa into a semi colony and market to dump their products

Those two years will not lead to residence permit for most students. They need labour to fill the unemployment gap for menial jobs.

there's no such thing as 'continent union'. The EU is an economic union just like Ecowas. A large chunk of European countries are not part of the EU.
