Hello Guys please I need your advise and experiences here;
I am a graduate of Electrical and Electronics engineering with an upper credit but since my graduation in 2008 I haven't been fortunate enough to get a job in my field hence I have been hustling any and everything to make ends meet but am always feeling misplaced you know like am not on the right track. so I am considering going back to school to improve on my qualification.

My intention is to get a higher degree in engineering preferably electrical power related from a Canadian institution but from my research so far masters degree with HND is out of the question in Canada (I hope am wrong) the most viable option is to apply for fresh admission but considering my age (mid 30s) a visa officer my deny my visa application considering I already have an HND why go for another degree or if I leave out my HND that would create a vacuum of over 10 years in my record (I also hope to be wrong). Although I don't mind going for certificate courses as well.

So guys please those who have experience and ideas on how to achieve my aim should kindly share.

Thanks so much

HND top up degree in Canada universities, allows Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates to ‘top-up’ their education and obtain a bachelors degree from a Canadian university or college.

In Canada, HND certificate holders with related Higher National Diploma (HND) can expect to complete the necessary courses within two to three academic years and be granted a bachelor degree upon achieving satisfactory grades.

For example, if you have an HND in Civil Engineering from Nigeria, most Canadian universities will give you admission into the 2nd or 3rd year bachelors programs in an engineering program.
The decision as to whether you’ll start in the second or third year depends on the number of transfer credits that is accepted from your previous HND degree.

All of us @ Wish you all the very best for the future.

You think you're a graduate?

With a HND?

My advice:

Look for a marine company, apply as an Electrical Officer Cadet.

Do your Cadetship for 12 months (sea experience)

Go to Ghana or Uk (do some research), enroll for an ETO Certificate of Competency.

Go back to the ship as an Electrical Engineer onboard.

There is a mad demand for you.

The salary? Madd

If you won't come clean to the VO, come clean to us here so we can help.

What is your real motive;
To study or to escape the country?

Now if your real motive is to study, it brings me to 2 questions.
(I). Do you just want a degree in a Power related Engineering course
Or
(Ii). Do you want this degree from an institution in Canada?

If it is (I).
Enrol for this program in either North Cyprus, Lithuania or a PGD at LAUTECH.
If it is (ii)
Enrol for an online graduate programme from an afforable College.

But please do not try to go applying for a Canadian Student Visa given your variables because your chance at getting it are highly slim.

I learnt that some Canadian universities accept HND for masters but you'll write some pre-masters courses. Please make more research

There are option you can take advantage of.

look for a Canadian school that is willing to accept your current certification with some not so tough conditions.

all the best
