If there had been no religion there'd likely be no schools nor education and everyone would be a lot more stupid and ignorant than they currently are because no one would have taught you or more stupid and ignorant people than some religious teachers today would have taught you to be far more ignorant and stupid than you are today.

The book you learn in school these days is after all the 20th Century evolved version of the holy texts studied thousands of years ago and your wise parents would not have invested their hard earned effort and cash paying for you to learn it if it were not so and you'd not argue you're not better off for it unless you didn't receive any learning.

History does after all show that most if not all education began as a one day a week religious institution where you were taught to read and believe a religious text which has now evolved into 5 day a week school with a more robust curriculum and books that have developed your mind to think far more critically than religious education that taught you to just believe began with.

I took sometime off from nairaland because LIFE and when I came back, I wasn't planning on coming back to this side of nairaland because of the annoying things i keep seeing from both sides.
But this is an interesting topic I would like to trow my two cents on.
Firstly, a world with out some type of religion or a replacement for religion from the first Humans to the development of modern civilization is very unlikely.
Because religion gave answers to questions people have been wondering about, but no one knows the answers to (what is our purpose? where did we come from? where do we go after death? That kind thing)
Not only that within in it was encoded stories and abstractions that would serve as guides for morals and ethics on how to act in such a way that would be beneficial for you and those around you.
The solidification of the idea of working for a long term goal rather than for short term pleasure that came with consequences (Heaven and Hell).
And a divine ideal. A unifying goal everyone could work together for or serve under. I've seen some atheists argue that religion divides people and causes blood shed and that is true on some level, but they forget that religion is powerful in it's unification of different and large groups of people that would otherwise be waring with each other (eg. The unification and eradication of the idea of tribes in Europe by the Catholic Church, and the coming together of Muslim from all over the world in Mecca for hajj).
Lastly the ability for spiritual experiences that seems hardwired in us. The emotion or sensation some people report having during eg. Sufi chants and church services and Search up near death experiences, and DMT trip stories.

Some have asked would it be possible to eradicate religion from the current world? My answer is you are free to trying it.
The Soviet Union had a state imposed atheism and in the vacuum left, the communist ideology replaced religion similarly for Nazi Germany as well, the National Socialist ideology replaced religion. (And in the respect of blood shed these two ideologies alone kill more people than any other in a short period of time)
My conclusion is, the rise of some type of religion was inevitable for Humans, we would be different creatures or cavemen for one not to exist.

But the early man survived without religion, how do you defend that?
Re: How Would The World Be If There Wasn't Any Religion? Your Opinions? by kvngtomi(m): 9:53am On Oct 25, 2019
Religion to some is a divine revelation, to some, it is a fraudulent approach of ripping us off of our lives. According to history, religion was started by man, if there wasn't any religion, there will still be wars, there will still be bloodsheds, but the issue of discrimination will not be there. If there is religion as well, there will still be wars, but there will be some form of control. Religion serves as a moral judge that guides us and tells us how to live our lives. Nobody is forced to believe and nobody is forced to reject. I just think in my own little mind that the world will be a lot different and maybe a lot worse than this if there wasn't any religion.
My two cents

Which early man? You better vomit dah thrash you were fed in secondary school.

While they have no knowledge thereof. They follow but a guess, and verily, guess is no substitute for the truth.

Man would be worse than animals.

Less than a century since atheism started and see how the life of our youths have become.

Even these so-called man-made laws are spin-offs of past revelations.
Verily! Man is indeed an ingrate
.

Think not that those who rejoice in what they have done (or brought about), and love to be praised for what they have not done,- think not you that they are rescued from the torment, and for them is a painful torment.

Looking at it from a natural selection point of view.
Religion would have had to play a role in human survival for it to still exist to this day and for the fact that every group of humans anywhere in the world to have had some form of traditional religion or mythical stories.
What do you think?

I am not condemning any religion, I wasn't fed any trash in secondary school, I read further myself. If you use your phone well, you will save yourself a lot of stupidity if you dig deep and search for histories. There wasn't any report of the early man, I mean homo Habilis, Australophitheces, and others having any religious encounter.

I can't deny nor agree with you on this. There are different stories that backed up what you said and what I said. Like my brother tells me, the victor writes the story, maybe it played a role or not, we don't know, we only read what they show us

Ah. I get you. You definition of religion does not include, "a way of understanding phenomena and explaining it to others". That's why you'd claim early humans did not have religion.

But think a little. What do you think early humans did when one of them died?

Think the problem is when some people hear the word religion the first thing that Pops into their heads is Christianity and Islam.
For those that are opposed to religion, see it as a mistake and can't get past their distaste for it.

Bury the dead of course!, does burying the dead have any religious attachment? You weren't there, I wasn't there. Some may even just dump the body somewhere and move on since they were mostly nomadic

Is homo habilis a name? Is homo sapien your name? Don't let's waste time.

Even if they had religion how would it be recorded? How would scientist decode the religion from fossil materials? Don't say there wasn't any known religion then. You may say it couldn't be verified by your available scientific knowledge.

Because religion gave answers to questions people have been wondering about, but no one knows the answers to (what is our purpose? where did we come from? where do we go after death? That kind thing)

No, religion gave a wrong answers or let me say a delusional answer to what humans seek for. Religion tell us Thor is responsible for Thunder and lightning, the planet Earth is rest on a tortoise back, sickness are caused by the gods, natural disasters are caused by the gods, a woman was created from a man's rib, a god vomited the world, the world was created in six days and so on. Are these truly the answers?

What's the purpose of life, where do we come from, where do we go, religions have no answer to these things, we only read some conflicting delusional answers.

Not only that within in it was encoded stories and abstractions that would serve as guides for morals and ethics on how to act in such a way that would be beneficial for you and those around you.
The solidification of the idea of working for a long term goal rather than for short term pleasure that came with consequences (Heaven and Hell).
Humans has been proven to be moral without religion e.g the abolishment of slavery was a human change in morality which religion never did.

Religion tell us they have morality but in reality many of their practices are immoral.

The early wars were carried out by religious people in the name of power.

If not that most countries now adopt secular laws we will still be in dark ages fighting religious wars.

Religions doesn't unify all beliefs, it creates conflicts. Kindly read history.

Lastly the ability for spiritual experiences that seems hardwired in us. The emotion or sensation some people report having during eg. Sufi chants and church services and Search up near death experiences, and DMT trip stories.
There are NO prove to this. It's normal to have emotional sensation when you listen to emotional things, I listen to music and feel emotional.

Near death experience is pseudoscience and has been debunked.

Some have asked would it be possible to eradicate religion from the current world? My answer is you are free to trying it.

My conclusion is, the rise of some type of religion was inevitable for Humans, we would be different creatures or cavemen for one not to exist.

The Soviet Union were wrong trying to eradicate religion, eradicating social myths is almost impossible because the society itself was founded on social myths. Religion in history also try to eradicate non-believers which they call apostasy, till date some religion like Islam sharia law still believe non-believers should be eradicate in the society.

Majority groups are not innocent in this, we just evolve from this mentality while some are still stuck to it.

If religion hadn't begun educating, there just might not have been anything to advance don't you think? Besides, shouldn't we agree on what has been instead of considering what might have been but wasn't?

Education came out of the insidous (note) need to indoctrinate. If I had no need to control your thinking, I just might have left you to educate yourself however you felt. But then, how would I enslave you for my own use if I hadn't indoctrinated you with religion?

I think credit should be given where due, myself, since one can't actually give it to what might have been, but wasn't. You must forgive me. Religion was the best I had at the time, and now, I use school instead. And note how I've figured out a way to make you pay more than tithes for it too.

Think carefully now please, then respond, because I value how well I indoctrinated you and would not like to be shown I have failed to make you understand the universe and the environment exactly how it profits me that you should. I did not build massive temples out of the benevolence of my heart!
