Our attention has been drawn to a press release by the Ijaw Youth Council, accusing the Hon. Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, of undue interference in the NDDC affairs and calling for his sack by the President.

Apparently, the avowed commitment of the Hon. Minister to reform, restructure and reengineer the Commission to achieve its core mandate is ruffling and unsettling some feathers within the sub region and as such,he is bound to face some distractions and resistance by those who prefer the Commission to remain business as usual.

For the Presidential order for forensic probe of the Commission since its inception in 2001 to be carried out without compromise or interference by any person or group of persons,a new acting management team was totally necessary. You can't allow the bureaucrats who had been part of the activities to be probed to oversee the probe and expect the expect the process not to be compromised.

To that extent, the appointment and subsequent inauguration of the acting management team was in order and we hereby endorse it.

Accusing the Hon. Minister of scheming to use the new acting management team to achieve self aggrandizement is,to say the least, pettiness of the highest order.

To us, the decision by the President to delegate supervision of the Commission to the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs was well advised. The Ijaw Youth Council must appreciate the bold and tough decisions and steps taken so far by the Hon minister of Niger Delta Affairs to reposition the NDDC.The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs is the most suitable ministry to supervise the affairs of the Commission and this must be sustained.

The Hon. Minister didn't award any water HYACINTH CONTRACT as alleged by the Ijaw Youth Council. The water hyacinth contacts he ordered the immediate past acting MD of the NDDC to pay were awarded by the Commission many months before his assumption of office as Minister and the employment exercise by the Commission had been suspended by Hon minister. We therefore,see no reason why the Ijaw Youth Council could make such allegations against him.

Niger deltans must support and encourage the Hon. Minister of Niger Delta Affairs to fast track the development of the sub region.

With Senator Akpabio as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, we have no doubt that the East West road shall be completed and commissioned within his tenure.

How well do you know south south Nigeria? And how much do you know Niger delta region? Are you aware that the Ijaws have presence in Rivers, Akwa-ibom, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa and cross river? Do you know the Ijaws are the 4th largest tribe in Nigeria after Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo? What exactly do you know about we the Ijaws that made you come to the conclusion that we are uncivilised?

Yes, Ijaws are indigenous in those states i mentioned. Each and everyone. Bayelsa is well known as an ijaw state because it is the ONLY state with predominantly Ijaws. There are others influential bloody Clans in the deltans but used to laylow.
