Use the inland dry ports or any sea port of your choice. Its because the thing dey affect you that's why you are shouting. So you'd rather your hides spoil at land borders than use the seaports? SMH

Nigerians are very selfish creatures, its always about their personal gains, never looking at the long term effect and funny enough, they are always the first to blame the government on every little thing

May God bless you. If Textile industry can boast of 3trillion in just one quarter what stops them from using such huge money to revive the textile industry.

Now i understand, after collecting bailout money from government, the same money was diverted into importation of textile materials.

Where is the sense of patriotism of Nigerian business men. They prefer to import good when they have resources to produce the good within Nigeria. Just like our politicians will still Nigeria money only to transfer their stolen money abroad to boost such country at the expense of Nigeria

A Businessman's first loyalty is to profit. Nationalism only comes after profit. Economics and current realities do not currently favour local production of clothing materials here.
Mind you, such plants are not meant to be switching from NEPA to GEN every two to three hours as the materials will only go bad mid-production if this happens.

It is part of why National Gas Master-plan was drafted during the Yar Adua Jonathan Era. it was meant to ensure smooth gas supply to all the geopolitical zones and redistributed to various industrial estates/layouts. if this had been effected/pursued to conclusion, this pour wahala of paying huge amounts of dollars in court cases may not have been an issue. Power will have been stable to some extent. if you doubt my premise. Go to Lagos, Sagamu, Ikorodu and Sango Ota, these regions have extensive gas linkages from the Nigerian Gas Company's western node in Ikorodu. Oando Gas and Power Supplies Lagos ( ikorodu, Oshodi, ilupeju etc.) Shell feeds Sango Ota, Agbara and environs... I'm not sure which of them has the concession for Sagamu. But these areas enjoy better power supply than others. I am not familiar with Owerri, Onitsha, Aba and the rest but I am sure the eastern NGC gas node is also being exploited to the maximum starved.

Now that the pioneers of this vision are out of government... I am not aware if the master-plan is still being pursued. I have not heard any mention of it in the news lately so that kinda figures.

If we will ever get it right, it can only be by tackling our challenges systemically. Not this ban aids we're employing here and there. But why are we surprised. Our populace wants results now now..else the parties will have nothing to campaign with in their next polling season.

Moreover, its the era of populism globally. We see it with Trump, Boris Johnson..... This South African President and of course down here.

Funny enough, Benin does not allow importation of Nigerian cement and their customs do so effectively. How come our customs can't be like the rest of customs in West Africa. The bubu wey wan pight kwaraption, why can't he fight corruption in customs and get due credit?

customs

how do you ask Benin to help you solve your customs problems when the only real solution can only come from you.

The deficit in infrastructure has been the challenge of Nigeria business, but this challenges were there when those textile industries were thriving.

We all know when the appetite for importation and consumption of imported good became the order of the day.

Yes, business is profit oriented and am quite familiar with gas network along coastal region of South South and South West of which many genuine business men considered by relocating thier industry along Sango, Mowe, Shagamu, Agbara, Sango Ota axis, but why didnt these textile imported merchants do the same despite government efforts in reviving the sector through series of intervention funds, they rather collect the money, locked up their company and started importing all manners of textile materials.

That's not business but economic sabotage which government is trying to correct with this border closure

BUSINESSARENAA:
I once said that the closure of these borders is not a properly thought idea, but some ignorant entities were ranting up and down.

Rice is not the only commodity that passes through a border. There are a lot of genuine business that passes through the land border.

If you are importing or exporting to some of the west African countries, it's easier and more cost effective to use the land boarders than the sea port.

Imagine a man exporting textiles to Ghana from Kano, how possibly will he do that through the sea port in APAPA?

I am totally against rice smuggling but the government should have come up with smarter ideas to deal with this issue, and not shutting down the whole boarder.

Presently I have about two trailers of hides and skin from Mali parked at the boarder incurring bills, with high possibility of spoiling within the shortest period of time because of its present condition.

How do I import from Mali to Nigeria through the seaport?

It is only those that does not understand what happens at the land boarders that are jumping up and down.

Once again I reiterate my stance against smuggling rice through the boarders, but we have to be more tactical in handling certain issues as regards to our economy.

This boarder issue in Nigeria is like a fly perching on a man's scrotal sack, you have to apply wisdom in dealing with it, if not you may end up hurting yourself terribly bad if you hit it with great force.

grin grin grin

They say Misery likes company. You think celebrating the misery of Our West Africans is a good thing. They can and will recover. The misery of Nigerians will never end. In the Bible, It says Love your Neighbor as Yourself. Nigerians that are celebrating because of this only proves that God has cursed with STUPID, MYOPIC, BRAINLESS, HALF-BAKED Idiots.

They are the reason why the textile factories shut down to start with.

You can not be importing cheap and Chinese subsidized textile materials to compete with your own local products and still expect the local manufacturers to stay in business.

These unpatriotic people just want to make money and keep making money at the expense of Nigeria and the closed textile plants.

If they are really concerned about Nigeria, combine your resources and invest in your own factories or revive the closed factories.
