Yoruba Nation: The coming storm

By Wale Adedayo

At the height of the contrived crises, which destroyed the once powerful pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, the leaders believed they were invincible. Eighteen years after, even those of them, who have passed on to the great beyond, would have realised by now that ‘Omode gbon, agba gbon ni a fi da Ile Ife.” Wisdom has never been the exclusive preserve of the rich and powerful. They disdained counsel from those “who have not been born since they began participating in politics.”

It appears the South-West leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not learn much from the fate that befell Afenifere. Son of man is not a Prophet. But I dare declare that if Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not review certain issues soon, the situation of the APC National Leader’s political family might be worse than that of the old Afenifere in five years time. And that will just be the beginning, because other unsavoury actions against his interests and business concerns are bound to follow from the same Cabal that is making every effort to ease the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, out of office.

Concerns about how Osinbajo was being treated shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office for a second term were much across Yorubaland. But not many realised that The Cabal in Abuja returned to the 48 Laws of Power to get the job of disgracing Osinbajo out of office achieved. “You need a cat's-paw— someone who does the dirty, dangerous work for you. The cat's-paw grabs what you need, hurts whom you need hurt, and keeps people from noticing that you are the one responsible. Let someone else be the executioner, or the bearer of bad news, while you bring only joy and glad tidings.” - http://48laws-of-power..com/2011/05/law-26-keep-your-hands-clean.html

Yes, The Cabal is the major architect of Osinbajo’s travails. But the conductors of the narratives against Osinbajo are two prominent Yoruba leaders, who believe they’ll succeed Buhari in 2023 once the vice president is out of the way. But they are mistaken. And, definite facts from our history in relationship with how the predecessors of The Cabal relate with us confirm that the Afonja treatment is waiting for our naive leaders. Late Col. Victor Adebukunola Banjo’s major sin was a past association of his father with the NCNC. Nobody among late Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s associates remembered that Banjo’s grandfather was active in the Anglo-Ijebu war of 1892, where he excelled in trying to defend the fatherland.

Great Awo pitched his tent with the predecessors of today’s Cabal, despite a golden opportunity to insist on a Confederal Nigeria as late Col. Odimegwu Ojukwu had suggested. But Awo’s associates were wary of an ‘NCNC boy’, Banjo, coming to rule the West. Besides, any Intelligence official, reading the files of those years before the civil war, would have come to son of man’s conclusion that Awolowo accepted to be Gen. Yakubu Gowon’s deputy and Finance Minister because after the war, there will be a return to ‘democracy’. And, he would have been the ‘only’ key ‘national leader’ left on the scene. Thus, with an eye on becoming Nigeria’s president after the war, the earlier agreements that Banjo should rally friendly troops to prepare us for the way of Biafra was abandoned on the altar of selfish ambition! And, what became of Awo’s ambition later?

As for those using God’s name to commit perfidy, due to unfulfilled political ambitions, their recompense will be worse than what befell the late Samuel Ladoke Akintola’s family across Yorubaland in the late 1960s and 1970s. Being able to read the Holy Bible and draw enough lessons for the undiscerning is not the same thing as being anointed by God. To Olodumare be all the praises, not one of their predictions have come to pass since 1999, despite the serial use of God’s name to promote a political interest that is a direct opposite of what a genuine Yoruba wants.

Reading what a friend, Temitope Ajayi, posted on his Facebook wall this morning confirmed previous issues that are only discussed in whispers among those concerned, - that those being used to teach Osinbajo lessons are Yoruba leaders. Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, was celebrated as a major item with brains. Meanwhile, one of the issues praised to high heavens in the piece was among responsibilities taken away from the vice president. Curiously enough, not a word about devolution of power from the Federal Government to the states. Not a word about our badly structured Federalism, which the Yoruba wants restructured.

It is very doubtful if the characters involved in the anti-Osinbajo project would desist from their failed project. But son of man will counsel that they take it easy. The last general elections across the South-West remains proof that a well-organised opposition party can uproot the APC from this part of the country. And, such a political party only need a few disgruntled former APC members to achieve its objective. For whatever it is worth, APC in the South-West today remains the only link to the Alliance for Democracy (AD) with which we started this political journey in 1999. And, despite the failure of our leaders to get what the Yorubas want from the Nigerian Federation, it will be a shame seeing such leaders destroy themselves as Afonja did at Ilorin.

Just my two cents!

I think Yoruba Nation is not ready to learn from the pass. Since 1999, Yoruba could not be able to win a single request from the Federal Govt. Which is Restructuring/Devolution of power they are just beating their chest for nothing.

How is Osinbajo being treated by Buhari? Has any VP in Nigeria had the privilege that Osibanjo is currently having in Buhari's governments?

Of what relevant are Afenifere? Afenifere, Opc, Ohaneze, CAN, AYC have all sold their births rights in exchange for porridge from Politicians.

Tinubu might no be right / mute on some decisions but that doesn't make him a weak leader.

It is time for all the SW politicians to unite and work towards the development of the region before even talking about 2023 presidency.

Like play like play he destroyed Ambode's political career, shamed him and still set the dogs against him.. Lagos state lost such a fine professional who wants to simply do the right thing..

Now is Osibanjo's time, he will destroy and disgrace him, its a matter of time. Tinubu is a very occultic man same case as most yourba Moslems, they believe so much in dark powers..Thats why its hard to tally along with him for so long if you want to do the right, as far as he is concern he made you and can destroy you, unfortunately he has an army of same mind with him..

As history thought us, no matter how long evil reign, when the time comes, just a figment of light will banish it...2023 is pregnant.

Are there no allegations against the past president even Buhari himself?

Trump shouldn't have any critics upon him delivering in his campaign promises.

Btw, hope you are aware that the current situations is " Eku Ida " ?

Forget Yoruba politics ..it doesn't work outside Yoruba land..in Nigeria..at federal..the hausa fulani Politcs is the main stream politics..

Get more close and observe how the play the game..that's why the keep winning..and south keep losing..
Obj knows their game well..but the westen media in quest of power destroyed and unmasked obj... Now theyre embolden and fear neither respect anyone from the south....

From what I see, all of this can only lead to regrets on the part of Tinubu and all Yorubas.

And this time around will not be like 1993 when other Southerners and middlebelters were there to support them against the injustice of the core-north.

ibos are emotionally unbalance, don't take their word to heart. Their words is like that of a mad man calling a sane man 'mad man'. They should be the least of your worries.

And also, this is the first time fulani will be getting their full years in government since 99, let them do as they like buh PYO is not going anywhere. Let's keep watching their foolery.

How are we planning to deny Igbo the presidency? You've been labouring for the PDP since 1999 go and look for your presidency there, must the APC that you so much hate and label as terrorists party be the one to realize your elusive presidency for you?

You Igbo are just lost in the wilderness, even the PDP is not ready to give you anything more than the VP position, despite all your sacrifices to the party!

God bless u jor, the igbos are the ones carrying the Osibanjo smear campaign for head cos pyo may be the reason no Igbo man may smell president for the next 16 years and this is giving them sleepless nights. If pyo was igbo, they will never have said he is a fake pastor. Pyo profile is a major headache for lots of folks now.
