Appeal Court Nullifies Dayo Adeyeye’s Election - Abiodun Olujimi Declared Winner by IamR: 1:01pm On Nov 06, 2019
The Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna has nullified the election of spokesman of the Senate, Senator Dayo Adeyeye.

The ruling was delivered by Justice Uzor Anyanwu on Wednesday.

The court also upheld the tribunal judgment declaring Peoples Democratic Party’s Senator Abiodun Olujimi winner of the Ekiti South Senatorial election held on February 23.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Adeyeye, who ran on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, winner of the National Assembly election.

Olujimi approached the elections petitions tribunal, seeking declaration that she had the highest number of votes in the election.

She urged the tribunal to nullify the APC candidate’s victory, claiming irregularities in the electoral process.

The tribunal subsequently nullified elections in some polling units and declared Olujimi winner.

All Progressives Congress and its candidate in the election, Dayo Adeyeye appealed the tribunal ruling at the appellate court.

Anyanwu upheld the tribunal ruling and also ordered INEC to issue a certificate of return to Olujimi.

Still affirming that most of the elections conducted by INEC under Mamud Yakubu & the APC were more of fraudulent sham than being a democratic process.

You can say that again. See the number of national assembly members that have been removed in the last two months by the court of appeal.

I trust Governor Fayemi, he is a politician. I'm sure he knows of all of these. He'll keep mute, and if care is not taken, he'll also support that Adeyeye be shown the way out. The reason is not far from the next Ekiti state governorship election. He doesn't want anyone who's big (APC big politician) in Ekiti. He's sure to field in a candidate, but not Adeyeye who would likely want to contest. It's all politics, though I'm sure Biodun Olujimi is more popular than Dayo Adeyeye.

This is an unfortunate judgement! Adeyeye won the election clearly. Sadly, the court had ruled and all parties must accept the decision. We won’t badmouth the judiciary like some other losers because the judgement wasn’t favorable.

The number does not really matter. The election was not free and fair, simple.

Oga,it matters.it is people like you that believes that rigging in one or two units equals nationwide rigging.no election can be totally free and fair and the law recognise that that is why the electoral act emphasizes substantial non compliance or compliance.nullification of less than 50 nass seats out of 469 means there is substantial compliance.moreover the supreme court states that evidences must be from all polling units or at least majority.did atiku follow that?

Coming back to this matter, the appeal court noticed infringements in a few units which should have necessitated a rerun like in the case of dino melaye, that is if the irregularities were substantial not outright robbing of one to pay another.

But you should know that Olujimi is also a popular candidate with a lot of followers from her constituency. She is more popular than adeyeye.

I dont know if she's more popular but she's popular same as adeyeye.based on what happened during the 2018 pdp primariez where he almost defeated the candidate of fayose and how he delivered his lga to apc,i rate him slightly higher than olujimi who is still popular but couldn't influence things.
Now,since two of them are popular,it means any of them could have won.my problem is the manner in which the appeal court gave her the victory.i think its high time nass cases goes up to supreme court again to prevent judicial recklessness at the lower stages

I agree with the bolded. No doubt about the popularity of Adeyeye, but I still think Sen. Olujimi polled more votes than him.

This judgment is lopsided. I'm not surprised at the judge that delivered the verdict.
