Please I want to start a class on programming. What is the spec of PC do you think will be okay for programming and designs too?

Thanks

Any PC can be used for programming no matter the specs only thing that does matter is RAM get nothing lower than a 4gb ram or if you have no choice 2gb ram, even an Intel Pentium would be good enough. After all Bjarne Stroustrup wrote c++ on an ancient machine and writing compilers are well one of the largest programming projects.

Thanks a lot

Someone said nothing less than core i5 hence the reason I asked here

Very wrong information. CPU prowess goes hand-in-gloves with RAM . . . Don't expect an Intel Pentium to run well even on 32GB RAM;
RAM is only meant as temporary storage for holding applications and threads instead of fetching them repeatedly from the hard drive . .
The CPU itself runs the calculations, instructions and any other thing the computer does.
The CPU determines how many seconds it would take to open your code editor; or how many hours? lol
It determines how long it would take to compile that program, days, hours or years......
It determines how fast your computer boots ( coupled with if you're running off a traditional HDD (slower) or SSD (rocket))
I would say, dont get a CPU below the 4th generation core i5 processor, and at least 8GB of RAM . . . else;
you would need to go to the bathroom and have a full shower before a medium Angular application would compile and serve . . .

So me that has coded on an Intel Pentium and a core i5 processor 3rd generation is now a god or what mtcheww the truth is the processor does not matter and it won't even take any time to compile as a programmer always aim for faster compile time.

SMH!!! Educate yourself!
If processor speed doesn't matter; then why are laptop manufacturers churning out monster laptops every day?
We have core i9 now . . .
Going by your logic . . .The world should have just stopped at Pentium 3 or 4; and only increase RAM right?
I have a core i7 apple machine with 16gb of RAM and a 2TB drive . . and this sh*t still feels slow when I open
the big guns of engineering . . .
And you say you code; again? I'm disappointed . . .

Anyways, there are levels to this !! Bye

Use your head !

Please read the op's question before insulting me. Use your head too. A good programmer must be able to write code that will run fast on any system that is still in use. I have used Pentium 4 to make programs and a core i5 3rd generation to make programs they both ran fast the only area where you'd need a faster processor is when you need to go into game programming do you think every human using a computer has money for a fourth generation processor or for a 32gb ram as you said boy please.

I'm a hobbyist not someone who's looking for work, what's my business with LinkedIn. So message to op you may not understand when I say any processor can do until you go into assembly. Don't want to go into the business of registers, cache, prefetch queue etc.

Sorry if this sound offensive, how old are you again?

Hobbyist !== LinkedIn . . makes no sense to me . . .

Ok, let's see your GitHub profile.

I personally don't believe in open source because of the nonsense of piracy and that licence stuff is way out of my league and what does age have to do with this.

My first impression of your says arrogance and someone who is so full of himself.
When it comes to programing languages used for scripting, the processor is not really a huge determinant.
I used a 1gb ram laptop of a dual core processor to learn and run my javafx projects.
Java on its one is slow in compilation. A feat I think all compiled languages have so I doesn't really matter.
I used the netbeans ide to run it. To be sincere, the ide was way to heavy. That is only the downside to running on a Pentium and lower processor.
They can't handle heavy IDEs that I am sure about.
But then, it is possible to compile programs through the command line which then references the Jre directly and I found that one to be a lot faster.
So you saying that using 9th generation processors blah blah blah is utter nonsense.
Unless the programmer wants to venture into game programming or wants to use software that requires high end 3d rendering.
I don't see any use of a web developer using a 7th generation or 9th generation processors.
Simple HTML, css, JavaScript does not depends on the GPU neither does it require much of the graphics processing.
Intel and AMD churn out new processors mainly for the gaming community and peeps into virtual reality games. So don't get it twisted.
With regards to you asking him of his github account. Why not show us yours? And I am believing that the programs you have pushed there are enterprise standard applications with neat interface and a well organised back end.
You seem so proud of your achievement in software development and I would love to see them.
Not those baby command line applications BTW.

Thank you ahn. This is why every software developer should understand the CPU and memory management.

Always aim for faster run time I'm sorry for the mistake. If your program isn't fast at run time it is shit.

I want to go into programming and web development..is this laptop ok?
hp430 specs;4gig RAM, Intel corei3,4th Gen,500gb HDD....
hope the corei3 doesn't mean much for a programmer?

It's 4th gen so no issue. The only problem that will rise is when you want to enter into graphics programming (gameplay programming, 3D modelling and design).

It might be multi core so it's okay. And are you sure it does not have Bluetooth.
