Good day Nairalanders,

I have been nursing the thought of relocating to Ghana with my little boy, 3years plus.

Any information from cost of living, to schooling, housing and all that will be appreciated.

Thanks Please no insults
Re: Relocating From Nigeria To Ghana by bigtt76(f): 3:36pm On Nov 17, 2019
Nice but have you thought of how to sustain both yourself and your son?

You need to get a good paying job which is usually not open to foreigners except you were transferred there as an expatriate working with a foreign company.

Having said the above, the costs depends solely on your choice and living standards. Things are dammn expensive here but you can survive same way as the locals are but that may be way below your living standard currently in Nigeria.

Bad decision...except you want to become a sex worker when you get there. Apart from the electricity, nothing is in Ghana.

without sugar coating does Ghana experience power cuts as we do here?

No power cuts in Ghana. It is almost perfect when it comes to electricity. They have good drainage systems, almost crime free compared to Naija. But the water is nothing to write home about. Ghana is expensive, especially transportation. As for jobs, Ghana Laws are very strict on foreigners.

Depends on the area you chose to live but to be fair, the power cuts are not as frequent as here in Nigeria. Like once in 30 days and when it does happen, it's restored within the next few minutes except it's a major fault. No frequent system collapse cheesy

The competition would be stiff. They've got good creative and arts schools here and their graduates are top notch but you can give it a try though. Not sure if they would pay well. undecided

I would advise you take time off, visit for a week or two and look around, you just might be lucky to get something going for you before making that decision to relocate.

It might be good for you say you're into remote work like the freelancer thing, stable power and internet access are good here but again, Naija boys have made it look as if everyone is a yahoo boy or person such that you might be reported to the authorities if they see you don't go out to work.

If you plan on coming here to stay permanently you have be sure you are making the right decision. Ghana has a very stable economy. Their currency is about 1cedis -66naira on exchange rate. Cost of feeding is not relatively expensive. You can eat for 4-20 per meal depending where u choose to go to eat. Electricity is constant. Housing is expensive. If dont have a job and you are moving here... It might be difficult for you to startup unless you have someone who is willing to accommodate you and your son. The artisans here make money depending how they package themselves. I go to salon and pay as high 15-20 cedis for my hair cut... Please ensure you do your research well before you make your move.. Goodluck to you

Yes, but nothing in the scale of what happens in Naija.

Unless you are loaded, don't try it. School fees for your child will be paid in usd unless the dad is a Ghanaian undecided
Ghana is sweet when you have money otherwise it will end in tears and regret. Accra mosquitoes are not kind either.

Only this can not sustain you. Besides, Ghanians prefer to give job to their citizens than forerigners.

Alright then.
1st of, you need a temporary accommodation when you arrive the country before seeking out to get a permanent accommodation.
If you don't have trust issues, I can help u get it.

Thats the truth and its not sweet. You will have to be exceptionally exceptionally good at your craft for any Ghanaian individual or company to hire you,not like your fellow Nigerians will hire you either.
Getting residence permit without a job is almost impossible. Staying more than 90 days without residence permit is a risk .You dont want your village pipu to see your pictures splashed all over facebook and Nairaland with the tag "Nigerian ashewo caught in Zongo junctio" written over your face. Work towards getting a job by applying online from Nigeria, if you fancy going to Ghana. Cost of living in Ghana is expensive, you cannot "manage"in Ghana as a foreigner. Dont be deceived.

You're making this sound like is not possible to get residence permit. Infact, I don't agree with your write up at all.

Yes you need it, Ghana is not like Nigeria where anything can pass under the bridge.
Nevertheless, you can process ur residence permit while u are in ur temporal place of residence

@OP, I know you'd still go anyways and join the statistics of roaming Nigerians being currently dealt with by Ghana citizenry and authorities. I just wish you'd leave your child out of that suffering that you are about to embark on. . .
Make you no go Ghana with a child and come back mourning same child .Amen Sakawa boys and head hunters are on the prowl, online and offline
