I took a short drive in Akure, the capital city of Ondo State in South west Nigeria.

Beautiful

Two things i am sure about the op amd the pictures up there. One, op has never travelled to any western countries. Two, these pictures look like road that usually leads to the government house in any nigerian state capitals. Mediocre.

Akure is not your regular capital city. Very clean and serene.

Remove those benin fraudsters in oja oba over bridge and bedc, Akure is not your mate.

like i said, mediocre. There is no nigerian city that is beautiful. With all the open gutters, untarred roads, narrow streets and refuse filled streets you wan use form beautiful. Abegiiii.

I was actually impressed by Akure when i went there. Definitely not what i imagined. It's similar to what you get in places such as Enugu and Calabar.

i stand to be corrected. Enugu, calabar were well planned but not beautiful. I have seen and been to clean beautiful cities and i can tell you that no nigerian city is beautiful.

Everybody is always fascinated with Akure when they first go there, however I think that's because of the contrast with other Nigerian cities which are overcrowded.

The contrast with other Nigerian towns and cities is what usually wows most people.

But I think Abuja, parts of Lagos, and some other places especially in the north, have the kind of curb appeal folks are looking for. Perhaps Enugu as well (going by the pictures I see on nl)?

We need to stop showing our beautiful cities and streets to ipob youths, it would only cause an increase in crime and further migration to our lands. See what’s happening to over congested lagos and Ibadan due to their inability to stay in their lands.

A recent write up said the rate of migration into Akure is at extremely high levels, people are moving there very fast. It is not known where most of the migrants are coming from.

I just saw an article which estimated the population of Akure to be 1.8 million by 2015. I don't know if that happened, but perhaps a new city should be created to absorb increasing immigration levels.

@OP Akure is indeed nice. Like 40% of the city is livable by Nigerian standards.. Which is quite high.
The city is also growing in all directions.

Calabar is very beautiful

I grew up in Akure and I can tell you that the city is gradually coming up and with the seaport being planned, it's going to get very crowded in the not too distant future.

It's already crowded.

The seaport is some distance away, a new city could be opened up closer to it if that's the plan.

There will usually be a ripple effect.

Lovely, Aketi is doing wonders in Akure.

Remove the bolded cause its now in its worst state. Very dirty,bad roads everywhere,no more streetlights,half-baked traffic lights and so on
