Your type of lecturers are the ones we are trying to retire from the industry: the type of lecturers that would rather have students go searching, reading and worrying without giving directions and teaching. Yes we all want the best for our country and should debate it. No one knows everything. Even if we disagree we can still do so politely

I know for a fact that Buhari's children,Osinbajo's children and Tinubu's children do not attend Nigerian Universities.

My point is government should change the law if they want to do this government cannot be lawless

Government negotiated the current situation and if they want to change it they should negotiate
We all know if they try to force this through unilaterally what will happen but becayse their children are unaffected they do not care

On a different note I do not think the FG should fund the Universities directly rather we should look at debating a new model that ensures the Universities are funded from fees paid by students. Government could offer scholarships ,grants etc . Across the world different countries are debating how to fund university education and we must do the same too to ensure good quality over quantity

We cannot afford federally funded university education. Quality education is expensive and those who want it should pay for it

Why will government be wasting money in term of salary on professors and PhD holders who can not transfer useful skills they have acquired over the years during lectures on students that are expected to be leaders of tomorrow just because they are not talented in teaching and transferring of knowledge? Ordinary reaserches they are known for, many of them can't come out with any tangible research except copy and paste of student project and yet, they will blow grammar they are not getting sponsors from organizations as if organizations are working because of them to waste their money. Many organizations are ready to sponsor researches that are tangible and have future

There are many corruption cases going on in academic environment, government needs to take bold steps to sanitize the sector to revive education and makes it more functional. ASSU should allow Buhari to do needful!

The union spoke on the latest directive by the Federal Government that her officials will move to campuses to begin enrolment of university workers on the Integrated Personnel Payroll and Information System (IPPIS).

ASUU, while reacting through its [color=#000000].University of Ibadan[/color] Chairman, Professor Deji Omole, stated that the union cannot be harassed or intimidated by those who have penchant for breaking the law of the land. According to him, breaking existing laws with impunity is the greatest corruption. Omole added that it is worrisome that a government under democracy is afraid of negotiation and dialogue but prefers to use force.

The ASUU boss maintained that the union will use available democratic means to prevent the violation and desecration of the Nigerian University system which the children of the President and top government officials do not find worthy of attending. “The government’s pronouncement to forcefully enrol university workers is an act of violence against the university system. It is worrisome for a government under democratic dispensation to resort to force rather than dialogue.

“If not, why is the government afraid of negotiations. We are not perturbed by the directive. A government claiming to be fighting corruption should not break the law. “The university Autonomy Act is very clear on university administrators. There is no greater corruption than those breaking the law of the land. [color=#000000]Breaking of existing laws.[/color] with impunity is the greatest corruption anywhere in the world; we refused to be harassed or intimidated. “We are not strangers in this country.

We are veritable stakeholders. We cannot be harassed. We have told them what to do. Let the government come back to negotiation’s table and let’s discuss the grey areas. Forceful enlistment will not solve the problem. “We are not disturbed but we are worried, government is getting dictatorial. A supposedly democratic government is getting dictatorial,” Omole said.

It is quite obvious that many people spewing venom do not really understand the laws that govern the university system. ASUU during GEJ's era rejected it, they reached a compromise and GIFMIS software was created to handle staff salaries and the likes because as at that time provisions were not made for certain transactions made in the system to be handled. ASUU has challenged the proponents of IPPIS to show how the program works which they could not. ; Letts face it, ASUU is made of professionals and they know that the software is being marketed by individuals just like REMITA and some people would sit at their homes and be fatting fat for every transaction done on the software. There are laws existing before now that grant universities autonomy just like in other universities in the civilized world and this was affirmed by Chief Afe Babablola a renowned legal luminary. If he can advocate that and some of u are here running your mouths about personal matters between a student and lecturer which is outside the scope of what is being discussed, kindly keep mute and look at the critical issues on ground.

Forgetting that someone who doesn't have a PhD grade can still do MPhil and such person can teach or lecture in polytechnics....

How can someone not defend his or her PhD, after going through pre and post data presentations in the department, Faculty defense, School of postgraduate defense and finally External Defense by an external examiner, then that person went to your useless school.

if your department frustrated you during your program, that doesn't mean other departments are like yours.
