If someone had told me a month ago, that I would be leaving Nigeria for USA, I would have considered it a very expensive joke.
Following our successful visa interview, feels right to inform this amazing Nairaland family that my family and I have finally touched down Washington DC. This would be our new home for now.
Feels refreshing to eventually leave Nigeria for good.

It"s freezing cold here, would keep tabs of my daily experiences here in the USA on this thread, but before that, tips on how to survive this chill would most importantly be appreciated.

So today is Sunday!
Hope you all went to church.
Here,
it's the Sunday before Thanksgiving Thursday (28th November, USA always celebrates Thanksgiving Thursday on the last Thursdays of November each year).

The church service was awesome,the gospel was outstandingly read and everything went just as organised.

The whites have a way of organising their things making it all look effortless. It's just like they are not serious but then they make headway more than we serious Nigerians.

I never for once heard anything about donations or second and third collections, no special attention was given to any politician or wealthy fellow.

The church service lasted for approximately 1hour and 15mins after which we all went to the dining to have breakfast.

I don't know how they do this here, but I'm utterly amazed.

This should be house christianity should look like.

On the other hand, today is christ the King celebration in Catholic Church, I paid close attention throughout the church and never was it mentioned here, maybe they forgot!

Most people here are blacks and luckily majority of them are igbo Nigerians.

That is pretty much how Catholic services (time, order of service, offerings, fellowship meal etc.) run in the white and black communities.

Immediately after eating, we headed straight to Walmart to get new sim card.

It's amazing how the only expensive food items in the USA are the cheapest ones we have in Nigeria.

We paid 45dollars for the sim card. That covers the cost of the sim and all calls and sms within USA for a period of 1month, including data provision.

I marked out somethings I would get on black Friday (the Friday after Thanksgiving Thursday)
I don't even have money, just hoping for magic b4 Friday.

Op, very important advice especially as it pertains to the western world with all sorts of social media / cyber privacy laws. And the government over here can pretty much track down almost anyone they chose to via their online/digital footprints even if one is anonymous on a public online forum.
