We are not serious about safety matter in this country. OccupationalHealth and safety matter is not about going to University but it's about learning the process. Health and safety is about getting you hurt or ill through work. I need someone that can connect me to the Lagos State government or any state government in Nigeria I have an idea where we can reduce accident at work drastically and also creat an employment and also generate revenue through it. I need right connection. My name is Adetola Olowooloja Chairman Adetola Olowooloja and company. adetolaolowooloja@gmail.com. Thanks
Sir, why don't you go directly to websites of State Governments in Nigeria and use the contact information on the websites to pitch your ideas to our leaders. You can also contact them via Twitter and Facebook. You will surely make a headway with this method of communication. Cheers.

but if it is your son, daughter, brother,or sister lost his or her head into that machine am very sure you will never pray for that factory to be reopened again, hypocrite, very selfish set of people.
please don't take it that way. He is right but may be did not put it in a pleasant manner. The company cannot be shut forever. They are suppose to pay adequate compensation to the family and other fines to local authority for non compliance on safety. They will be required to close all the gaps and the factory will open again. The time depends on how soon they meet up with the above. If factories will be closed based on accident leading to fatality, then we may have no factories again. Such accidents also happen once in a while in even the best safety compliant factory anywhere. Since humans are involved and not robots the hazards are always there.

Useless lazy ass Nigerian regulatory body. Are they not suppose to be doing a safety routine check(s) monthly or quarterly to checkmate these glorified slavery going on in some of these production companies?
The matter is complicated. You will know that regulatory bodies exist in Nigeria and actually work if you are not into bribery. The place I work with is always full of them on routine checks because the company implements anti bribery and corruption to the fullest. But most of these companies pay them bribes and do any nonsense they wish.

A plastic production factory, Multipak, has been sealed in Oregun, Lagos State, for violation of safety rules and regulations, poor house keeping and lack of signage which led to the untimely death of one Femi Olatunde, a factory worker who got his head stocked while operating one of the machines.

According to Director General, Lagos State Safety Commission (LSSC), Mojola, the State had declared zero tolerance on factories and private organisations that violate safety rules and regulations.

According to him, on no account should any factory operate without putting in place safety equipment, quality house keeping, signage, good wiring system and clean environment devoid of hazards to the lives of workers and visitors.

They should also remember the authorities that issue and gave them pass before they started operation because they are also guilty as charged.

May his soul rest in peace. My warm condolences goes out to the family for their loss sad

This is what happens when the Government of the day is reactive. Tomorrow maybe another disaster occurs, you See the Government running helter skelter, activating an already existing proactive measures. Nigeria has never been a serious nation, this is the reason why we always lose our best to foreign nations. I was amazed when John Fashanu, (a retired England international of Nigerian decent), he said after retirement he is paid #5m monthly by the English FA up till date, while our ex internationals that brought glory to Nigeria, are wallowing in poverty. Naija we hail thee.

I am right, and honestly I am not trying to be pleasant. I asked a valid objective question deviod of sentiments.
And you are far too nice to explain to the nitwit in a nice manner.
I am responding to him and one other now.

TOPCRUISE:
Because your head and that of your loved ones might be the next to be chopped off if you are all called in to fill any vacant position in the company and company refuse to adhere to safety standards.
Lokostic77:
but if it is your son, daughter, brother,or sister lost his or her head into that machine am very sure you will never pray for that factory to be reopened again, hypocrite, very selfish set of people.
Your responses to me is not only childish, but I am tempted to have you post your Birth Certificate here, because childishness is too good to describe your response.

The late worker won't come alive again and the family wouldn't benefit anything if the factory remains closed for ever.
The law separates a company as a legal entity. The late worker's family are supposed to sue the factory for higher compensation than what is in operation in these factories.
If the factory is shut down, what of other people who work there and fend for their families... Fend means food, rent, hospital bills, clothes, education.

If I get to work there or any family member of mine, they will demand proper HSE policies are in place.
That's the sane and objective thing to do, and not make comments online like nitwits without employing mental exercise.
