Very true. But the nigerian spirit of complacency robbed that team of global glory beyond the Olympics.

That team was a world cup medal winning team (at least bronze).

Inexperience cost them the final in USA 94, loosing to Italy at the last minute of the match. Italy went easily ahead to the final, beating a spineless Spaniard team in the QF, and a Bulgarian team (we had earlier on demolished 3-0 in the opening match) in the S.F.

Ego cost them higher grounds in 1998. Going unprepared into the 2nd round match with Denmark, thinking to themselves that they had sent one of the most hyped team (spain) home in the first round, so what is denmark. Even the yeye coach Bora, said he was looking beyond the match with denmark towards the match with Brazil in the QF. Who says that?

Even as i type e dey pain me die.

That team had all it took to win the nations cup back to back from 94 -98. But Abacha robbed us of that opportunity.

Sad.

They were not at Korea/Japan because of what happened at Mali 2002.

This was the team that played the qualifiers for Korea-Japan 2002 and Mali 2002. Victor Agali and Yakubu Aiyegbeni were our main scorers.

This was the Super Eagles team that participated in the Mali 2002 afcon, the team was disbanded after the nations cup, stripping Oliseh off the captains armband. Finidi was dropped too, they were known as the mafia in the teams camp by the late sports minister Ishaya mark aku. Good old days

It's interesting seeing people praise this team. Back then (in 2001/2002) most Nigerians were viciously condemning this team. They almost lost qualification to Liberia! Do you remember the game against Ghana in Accra and the controversy in Port Harcourt? They ultimately performed badly at the Nations Cup in Mali (although I believe that was the fault of the officials and not the players). People were longing for the days of the Super Eagles of 1993-1998.

Victor Agali was not at the 2000 Nations Cup. It's the team that played qualifiers for the 2002 Nations Cup and the 2002 World Cup and also played at the 2002 Nations Cup.
