The UN’s deputy secretary-general, Hajiya Amina Mohammed, on Tuesday, November 26, said that while the move against hate speech is commendable, the death penalty aspect of the proposed bill should be scrapped, Daily Trust reports. Hajiya made this comment as she led a delegation on a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja. We, of course, did not support the death penalty… “I am also happy to see…that that portion was taken out of the legislation that was being put forward. The Secretary-General had also put in place a special ending on hate speech.” The UN’s deputy secretary-general also said that at both the international and regional levels, hate speech is not only frowned at but also checked by various legislative means. Gradually the bill is being passed and we are mute.. how can a people be this docile. Nairaland is the most visited site in Nigeria because of it being largely anonymous, that is to tell you how cowardly we are as a people. If the Government is being called out on Nepotism, would that classify as hate speech against a set of people?... When you speak for your people and the ills in the society perpetrated by leaders as sowore has done, would that fall in the line of aggravation and breach of peace under hate speech? |

This hate speech was one of the tactics adopted by Apc back then in 2015 to break pdp down. Now they've used it and want to rule against it. It's well. Nigeria leaders are not just worthy of emulations I swear |
