mrvitalis: No one mentioned Zik in the report or discussions here, yet your inferiority complex just had to take hold of you as always. At the end of the day, you still called Ojukwu a fool. Yes we know Awolowo was never at the level of a fool, neither was he at the level of one who died with the regrets of lacking foresight. Whenever Igbos remember that they are fighting for secession, their soul curses Azikiwe and praises Awolowo. 1 Like |

Do you know how many Europeans died in the first and second world war? Na who die remain be first born. That war was unavoidable, the Igbos were being killed in 1966 so there was no option than to declare Biafra. The Igbos will surely have an honorable peace in the end! LegendHero: |
Re: Tinubu Mother Abibatu Magaji Made A Banner For Awolowo On His Release - Photo by LegendHero(m): 2:28pm On Dec 01, 2019 |
DMerciful: That war was still avoidable in 1967 Ojukwu should have shifted it to a later date. He should have consulted several people first and form alliance. It’s not only the first coup that lead to the pogrom in the North, the North already had the Igbos in mind and even if that coup did not happen there will still be pogrom. The Igbos in the North then are boasting about themselves, calling the northerners useless being, and looking down on the inhabitants. Some conservatives in the North were already planing to treat their fuckup and the January coup was a perfect justification for them. Ojukwu should have at least try to solicit the support of the Yorubas. Don’t tell me about his meeting with Awo, what transpired was that Awo told him not to make haste in his decision. Before Awo could know it Ojukwu already decided no going back and he thought he could win the war on his own. Ojukwu underrated the Nigerian army and he also put his hope in the money stashed in the federal banks in the eastern region that he seized. He was using that money to purchase arms from outside world and Awolowo had to change the currency to stop him from being able to use that. |
Re: Tinubu Mother Abibatu Magaji Made A Banner For Awolowo On His Release - Photo by DMerciful(m): 6:04pm On Dec 01, 2019 |
The fact that Awolowo said if Igbos leave the Yorubas would leave, even if he was scared the west was too militarized to secede at the time Ojukwu declared, he should have at least be neutral because they had talked about it. He was really a betrayal to have played an active role. The reason the pogrom was done is not because of Igbo boasting or insult, but the same reason why we have Bokoharam, Herdsmen, bandits etc killing even themselves today. They look for excuse to kill. When you are with belligerent people, anything triggers killings. Remember the beauty pageant that triggered killings in the North? What about the Denmark cartoon that triggered killings? What about 2011 elections?Go and read the history of attack of the arabs against Isreal for no just cause then you would know the North has always been that way, doesn't need any trigger other than jealousy LegendHero: |
Re: Tinubu Mother Abibatu Magaji Made A Banner For Awolowo On His Release - Photo by LegendHero(m): 6:19pm On Dec 01, 2019 |
DMerciful: I understand what you are saying bro. @the first bolded, Awo did not mean that statement in the context of war. The Yorubas at that time do not have any justification to go to a war against Nigeria. The pogrom attack was majorly against the Igbos, the initail coup by some Igbo military guys also killed Akintola, a Yoruba premier. Hence the Yorubas do not have any moral justification to suddenly go to war against Nigeria. Let's say for example, Yoruba soldiers killed Azikwe, Ojukwu, etc and the Yorubas now turn to the Igbos after just 9 month to tell them to forget the killing of their leaders and join them in a war against Nigeria. In all honesty, do you believe the Igbos will accept? Like i said at first, even if you might argue the war is justified on the side of ojukwu, he could have at least consulted and be sure of alliance before depending on just the strength of the Igbos alone. Even the almighty USA cannot go to war against an opponent without securing the alliance of some powers at first. in life, everything is not just about being brave, being brave without brain will be more fatal to a man no matter how powerful he can be. |

I agree with you that Ojukwu should have consulted more. Akintola was Awolowo nemesis in the West so I dont think Awolowo's active collaboration with the Nigerian government was because of Akintola's demise and also dont forget the original coupist wanted to install Awolowo! The western countries supported the fg because they dont want other countries to start breaking up, their failed experiments in Africa would have been obvious. It would have been difficult for Awolowo to join the war in all honesty, the west was too militarized because the seat of govt was in Lagos at the time but he should have been neutral. He made it seems he wanted presidency at all cost! Even at that, was he rewarded? Just imagine if the East has seceded and the West seceded, they would have been great countries today cos they both are progressive people but they chose to be tied to a deadweight North who are naturally retrogressive and everybody is being slowed down to a halt. Re: Tinubu Mother Abibatu Magaji Made A Banner For Awolowo On His Release - Photo by LegendHero(m): 6:38pm On Dec 01, 2019 |
DMerciful: You are right although I have a different school of thought about the military boys trying to install Awolowo (It's all a ruse to legitimatize the coup). Sometimes I always think it would have been better for Nigeria to break up in its formative days or at least we should remain in that regional government. If we had broken up as separate countries, I am quite sure each southern region will be at a more prosperous nature than our current status. Either way everyone already learnt from their mistakes, just that the mistrust of people in the south is still what is currently holding us down. If the Igbo tries to make a move, the Yoruba antagonizes, if the Yorubas tries to make a move, the Igbos also antagonizes. The only time the Yoruba and Igbos successfully formed an alliance was during the clamour for independence. That was the only time ZIk and Awo formed a truthful alliance. After that one time, both regions keep drifting apart up to this moment. |

As it stands now, the only thing that can move Nigeria forward is the cooperation of the Igbos and the Yorubas. I honestly pray we look beyond our superficial differences and form a major alliance to liberate this country. Nigeria with so much human and natural resources coupled with the fact that we owe the entire black race the leadership to success (because blacks would begin to have a sense of pride if Nigeria succeeds as being by far the largest black nation) has failed herself to an extent we are thought as not being able to govern ourselves. I dont understand the war of supremacy btw Igbos and Yorubas, it has really hurt the Nigerian State! LegendHero: |

DMerciful: You will be the third or fourth Igbo I will have this kind of discussion with on this forum and we all also shared the same mindset with each other on this subject. We have a million things to gain if we could be together. Even if we don't share the same mindset and reactions to issue, we can always accommodate each other's thought and work together for things that will benefit us both. internally the Yoruba and Igbo folks desired co-operation but just that our egos exceed our urge to unite. However, there are numerous folks on this forum that identifies as Igbo and Yorubas on here that are purposely sabotaging that effort by constantly fueling the rift. No matter how cool you will be, it will be hard for you to keep mute when your tribe is being dragged in the mud. That is what is also affecting the saner folks on this forum. |
Re: Tinubu Mother Abibatu Magaji Made A Banner For Awolowo On His Release - Photo by DMerciful(m): 7:22pm On Dec 01, 2019 |
Thank you for your progressive mindset. We shouldn't continue fighting the wars of our forefathers that is not doing us any good. The Japanese were nuked by US during the second world war but they cooperate more than any other countries cos it's in their best interest. I understand it's not easy not to respond to others insulting our tribes but if we must cooperate, some people will be the drivers. For goodness sake, we have no hand in deciding where we came from so why should that determine if we progress collectively. Science has made the world a wonderful place to live in, we should fight our common enemies in form of diseases, crime, terrorism climate change, child labour, liberation of women, human right oppression etc. Why is it difficult from Ohaneze to meet with Yoruba leaders to sign a peace pact and memorandum of understanding? Even if its presidency, what stops them to say I'll support you to be president and afterwards you support me by signing some form of agreement? I repeat, Nigeria can only make progress if Igbos and Yorubas cooperate, so we either look beyond the issues btw Azikiwe, Awolowo, Ojukwu, Amadu Bello, Akintola, Nzeogwu and forge a new Nigeria. Those guys made mistakes, they were also young and nobody before them to guide them LegendHero: |
Re: Tinubu Mother Abibatu Magaji Made A Banner For Awolowo On His Release - Photo by LegendHero(m): 7:36pm On Dec 01, 2019 |
DMerciful: God bless you. On the political issue about Ohanezes and Yoruba leaders, bro the earlier we come to reality, the better for all of us. Although it can be argued that if the leadership bloc from both regions can come together to form an alliance, some of the problem can be solved but I think we are all failing to see the actual problem affecting both region. The elders group and politicians are all the same across each divide. They will NEVER be happy seeing the unity of purpose among both tribes. Who will defend Igbo politician or elders that is corrupt in the online space if we (Yorubas and Igbos) are all united? Who will also defend the Yoruba politician or elder that is corrupt in the online space if we (Yorubas and Igbos) are all united? They are all thieves hiding under the cloak of patriotism to their tribesmen to enrich themselves and their cronies. I was saying it here the other time, I read some books about how Awolowo implemented the free education and the hardship he had to go through to achieve that feat. He was mocked, bullied by the western press, faced much opposition from the uneducated Agbekoya but yet he proceeded and we are still talking about his legacies several decades later. The present corp of South West governors have failed us, they have no definite philosophy and you can't even say this is their goals. This is also true to the Igbo governors coz I'm pretty sure they do not follow in the footpath of the labor of the Azikwes. We the southerners most times always blame the North for all our problems, saying the south will be an eldorado if we were a separate country and sometimes I always laugh. Will the south not still be ruled by all these fraud politicians we parade in the new country? For the south to achieve prosperity even as a separate country, there must be a sweeping revolution such that these current political class will be wiped away (not death) from the new establishment for us to have the prosperity we dream of. |
