*PRESS RELEASE* *NIGERIAN ARMY TROOPS NEUTRALISE MORE BOKO HARAM/ISWAP CRIMINALS RESCUE WOMEN AND CHILDREN AND DECIMATE OTHER CRIMINAL ELEMENTS NATIONWIDE* In what has now become a recurring decimal for the Boko Haram criminal elements across Operation LAFIYA DOLE Theatre, owing to the growing effectiveness of the Nigerian Army Super Camp Concept, some criminal Boko Haram elements mounted on 5 Gun Trucks and motorcycles attempted to infiltrate 112 Task Force Battalion troops’ location at Mafa in Mafa LGA of Borno State on 1 December 2019. In a shameless display of poor training and tactics, the marauding criminals made themselves easy target, as they fell prey to the superior fire power power of the resilient and highly professional troops of the said Battalion. At the end of the encounter which lasted for about 40 minutes, the criminals once again suffered heavy casualties in both men and equipment as they were seen retreating in dissaray with some of their dead and wounded. However, the dogged troops of the Unit embarked on a hot pursuit of the scampering insurgents and exploited their withdrawal route. During the exploitation, troops recovered 3 Boko Haram bodies ( 2 of them strapped with suicide vests). Additionally, one Boko Haram criminals’ Gun Truck, one motorcycle, one Anti-Aircraft Gun, one PKT Gun, one Rocket Propelled Gun Tube were captured by the troops. Other items that were equally captured by the troops include 2 Rocket Propelled Gun bombs, 2 AK 47 Rifles, 25 Rounds of Anti-Aircraft Gun, 723 Rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, 51 Rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 52 Rounds of 7.62 X 54mmR (PKT) ammunition, surgical kits, Boko Haram terrorists uniforms and warm clothing were also captured by the gallant troops. In a similar development, 2 female suicide bombers attempted to infiltrate the Defence Company of 26 Task Force Brigade Garrison location at Gwoza in Gwoza LGA of Borno State on 1 December 2019. Consequently, the eagle eyed soldiers deployed on sentry duty identified the criminal intruders and neutralized them before they could detonate their suicide vests. In yet another development, based on credible intelligence, troops of 21 Special Armoured Brigade in conjunction with elements of the Civilian Joint Task Force conducted a robust Clearance Operation to suspected Boko Haram enclaves at Zua and Kotembe Villages in Bama LGA of Borno State in the early hours of 2 December 2019. Incidentally, the cowardly remnant Boko Haram criminals hibernating in the general area opened fire on the advancing troops from an ineffective range and fled in disarray towards Kerawa along the Nigeria- Cameroon boarder. Nevertheless, the gallant troops continued with their advance and bravely searched the area. It is gratifying to note that, 12 women and 4 children held captives by the insurgents were rescued and evacuated to safety. Elsewhere, other ongoing Nigerian Army Operations and Exercises conducted across the country continue to yield positive results as our gallant troops continue to decimate the criminal gangs and deny them freedom of action. Relatedly, troops of 9 Brigade Garrison on Exercise CROCODILE SMILE IV, while acting on credible intelligence from some law-abiding citizens, conducted a successful Cordon and Search Operation in a resident of one notorious drug peddler in Ipaja area of Lagos State. During the Operation, troops busted and discovered a large underground makeshift bunker used for the storage of large quantities of different kinds of illicit drugs. In a related development, troops of 146 Battalion on Exercise CROCODILE SMILE IV also neutralized one bandit while others are believed to have escaped with various degrees of gunshot wounds during an encounter at Lafarge Company general area in Akamkpa LGA of Cross Rivers State. Also, troops of 16 Brigade Garrison on Exercise CROCODILE SMILE IV arrested one armed robbery suspect and recovered one locally fabricated pistol at Tombia Roundabout in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. Similarly, on 1 December 2019, acting on credible information, troops of 343 Artillery Regiment, Quick Response Force on Operation CROCODILE SMILE IV raided a cultists' staging area along Ahoada Road, Elele in Ikwerre LGA of Rivers State. After a brief gun battle, the criminals retreated into the nearby forest. However, the troops neutralized 2 of the cultists and recovered one AK 47 Rifle, one locally made pistol and 30 Rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. In a similar vein, troops of 8 Division Garrison while conducting Clearance Operations, discovered a bandits’ logistics camp at Tagimba area in Gudu LGA of Sokoto State. However, the criminals fled the location before arrival of the unrelenting troops. Nevertheless, the troops destroyed their Logistics and exploited further ahead. Also, same troops, while conducting aggressive fighting patrol along Katsina - Gusau Road, arrested 2 suspected bandits, recovered one AK 47 Rifle and 20 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai commends troops for their exceptional display of patriotism, professionalism and responsiveness. He however admonishes them to remain resilient and continue to be steadfast in the fight against criminal elements across the nation. You are kindly requested to disseminate above information to the general public for awareness. Thank you for your usual cooperation. *AMINU ILIYASU* Colonel Nigerian Army Operations Media Coordinator 5 December 2019

INTERNAL SECURITY: NAF GRADUATES 717 PERSONNEL, TRAINS 3,629 IN FORCE PROTECTION IN JUST OVER FOUR YEARS In furtherance of its continued efforts to build the capacity of its personnel for the effective protection of its bases and air assets as well as improve its capability to tackle the current security challenges in the Country, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today, 6 November 2019, graduated 717 personnel, comprising 623 Regiment and 94 Air Police personnel, trained in Force Protection in Complex Air-Ground Environment (FP-CAGE). The combined graduation of Basic Regiment Officers’ Course 15/2019, Advanced Regiment Airmen’s Course 4/2019, Basic Regiment Airmen’s Course 28/2019 and the FP-CAGE Course 9/2019, which took place at the Shittu Alao Hall, Regiment Training Centre (RTC), Kaduna, brings the total number of personnel trained in FP-CAGE since the NAF entered into partnership with the British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT) in 2015 to 3,629. Speaking during the graduation ceremony, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, stated that the RTC has remained a centre of excellence for the impartation of ground combat skills to Regiment personnel for the protection of NAF Bases and aircraft as well as other critical national assets. He said the inclusion of the Air Police and Intelligence personnel in the training has also ensured better synergy in force protection delivery and appropriate delineation of responsibilities for complementary roles in NAF Base Defence Architecture. He observed that the quality of the training delivered by the RTC has been quite evident in the exemplary performance of Regiment personnel currently deployed in 10 ongoing operations across the country in the fight against insurgency, banditry and other forms of criminality. Air Marshal Abubakar pledged that the NAF would continue to reinvigorate capabilities as well as develop additional skillsets to counter prevailing security challenges in the Country. While congratulating the graduating students on their achievement, the CAS urged them to continue to submit themselves to civil authority and strive to protect Nigeria’s democracy at all times whilst remaining vigilant and guarding against being used by ‘disgruntled elements’ in the society. Air Marshal Abubakar also seized the opportunity to thank the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, for his continued support to the NAF. He equally commended the efforts of the Air Officer Commanding Ground Training Command (AOC GTC) as well as the Commandant and staff of RTC for a job well-done. Furthermore, the CAS specially thanked and commended BMATT, especially the Detachment Commander of No 5 Royal Air Force, Force Protection Wing, Squadron Leader Nathan Foster, for his dedication, hard work and commitment to the FPCAGE training. “It is my sincere hope that we will continue to sustain our long-standing cooperation and relationship with the Government of the United Kingdom”, he said. Earlier in his welcome remarks, the AOC GTC, Air Vice Marshal Idi Amin, stated that the RTC’s curriculum was continuously being revised in response to combat experiences and requirements to make the training more effective and realistic to meet the evolving complexities of operational environments. He said he was therefore confident that the graduating students had acquired the necessary skills to be effective in securing NAF Bases and assets while at the same time supporting sister Services and security agencies in internal security operations across the country. He however highlighted that the commendable achievements recorded by the RTC would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the CAS, which had ensured an enabling environment for the timely, qualitative turn out of well-trained Regiment personnel. He therefore expressed his profound gratitude to the CAS for his determined focus on capacity development of NAF personnel. As part of the ceremony, the graduating students had earlier conducted an exercise simulating the countering of an insurgent threat to the Base by an FPCAGE Team supported by an Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft. Another highlight of the graduation ceremony was the presentation of awards to students who distinguished themselves during the various courses. Dignitaries that graced the occasion included the Commandant Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, Brach Chiefs from Headquarters NAF, the AOC Air Training Command, the United Kingdom’s Defence Adviser in Nigeria as well as Commanders of co-located NAF Units in Kaduna, among other senior serving and retired officers. On My way from Monguno to Maiduguri today. I met some soldiers at a Checkpoint in a location that is an hour drive from Monguno. One of the soldiers begged me to take his phone to Maiduguri so that the network in Maiduguri will easily deliver the text message in his phone outbox to his there is no network in his location. He complained he has not spoken to her for six weeks now and that she will be worried. He gave me his phone as I'll be returning the next day. I arrived at Maiduguri and did as expected. His wife called immediately. I received her call which was kinda emotional because i tried convincing her that her Husband is alive and explained why i am with his phone. Aswear may God bless all our Gallant Soldiers 23 Likes 3 Shares |

Updates on my 2hours trip from Maiduguri to Monguno 1) I noticed that a military base an hour from Maiduguri had a very big trench with the dug up sand standing above six feet like a barricade around this military base. Would a solid fence not be much better? 2) Some Soldiers stopped us at a military check point for identification. I was really scared when they spoke in Hausa language i refused abiding until one of them used a proper pidgin English. I don't wanna become the case of the dudes on Maiduguri --- Damaturu road at Djimtilo last week 3) I hope the Army understands that even ISWAP dudes got voters cards 4) In the NorthCentral whenever i see Fulani's Herdsmen on Highways i get scared, But here in the Northeast i feel so happy seeing Fulani Herdsmen on the Maiduguri-Monguno road 5) The journey was peaceful 8 Likes 1 Share |
