National grid phrase is the problem.
only learning institutions have authority to generate and keep power without remitting to national grid.
Universities can even supply surrounding neighborhood and get paid.
National grid phase shouldn't be an excuse for incompetency on the part of Federal government not given Nigerians 24hrs electricity after billions has been sunk into it. Power Ministry is just another conduit pipe used in milking the treasury and nothing more.

It will be a wise idea for the university to liaison with high-tech companies to set up shop on campus. Maybe a research center where products can be invented etc. I am also sure the power will be cheap. 24-hour power supply is something that shouldn't be taken for granted.

A train station in Japan exceeds the Nigerian national grid already. It's no brainer.

There is something phenomenal about Nigeria, even as cardi B enter Lagos her skin color change immediately.

Before you quote me, try to snap a picture before boarding a plane out of this shithole and snap another picture with same phone and cloths immediately you land anywhere else in this world. Then only u will see you real face undecided

I totally concur. Two months ago I came to Europe, and snapped a picture with the same phone that I had been using in Nigeria, the same day I got to Germany. When this picture landed on my profile many people have been commending me for looking so fresh and all. Honestly, I am still look for an acceptable explanation for this phenomenon. It is either the light over here, or something.

Was on the campus few months back, saw some installed solar panels, but I don't think that is what the school is hoping to rely on though, cos energy outputs from solar panels that can.power the school should be much more than what I saw.

But what the vc did not state clearly is the means for this independent power generation. Certainly, not hydro.

Maybe because they didn't really exit. They're burning gas for power .. maybe they get the gas at subsidized rate. I expect Unilag to do also explore that route soon too as the school is close to water and can also get gas piped down to them

The project is actually a Federal Government initiative and it is being carried out in about 6 federal Tertiary institutions spread across the geo-political zone.

OAU happens to be the one that would first reach completion of the project.

Independent power projects, especially at state level would have been the most sensible solution to the power problem in Nigeria. But the greedy mafia at the federal level always want to stagnate things in the country...

Niger Delta can generate its own electricity easily, Lagos can, even most parts of the North can create solar farms and take advantage of the vast desert lands they have, all that, added to what the National grid has would have solved our power issues...

Kudos to OAU. Great uni!!!

You think Federal government dont know what they are doing? If they make it easy for states and other business to have electricity the know NEPA abi na PHCN will be like water board since everyone can now sink bore hole.

Please where is the hydro plant located, cos I can't find any dam on the campus.

Opa Dam, the source of water supply to the campus was built in 1981.

It is located off Road 1 about a kilometre from the Gate.

This is a good news coming out of OAU eventhough i expected UNIBEN to take the lead. The government funding to education is insufficient yet this school is trying to make lemonade out of lemon. Kudos to UNIBEN, Sorry, i mean OAU.
