This is what Amaechi and Donald Duke should have done in their respective states, but they decided to waste money instead.

EDIT: Steal money instead.

AutoJoshNG:
In Dubai, one of the most fascinating features in public transportation is the Dubai Tram. The Dubai Tram is an essential part of Dubai transport network.

Generally, Trams are one of the safest modes of public transport in the world.

What exactly is a Tram?

A tram is similar to a train in many ways. It runs on a railway-like line called a tramway. Just like trains, it consist of a series of coaches/carriages/vehicles. Trams usually run from a tramway to a railway line. It can also be modified to have the speed of a train.

The Dubai Tramway

The Dubai Tram is a tramway located in Al Sufouh. The tram service links Dubai Metro and the Palm Monorail and runs along Al Sufouh Road and Jumeirah Beach Road. It provides access to destinations such as the Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Lake Towers.

The tram runs for 14.5 kilometres (9.0 mi) along Al Sufouh Road from Dubai Marina to the Palm Jumeirah and Al Sufouh. It takes about 42 minutes to run from Al Sufouh to Jumeirah Beach residences.

In Dubai, to board and ride in a tram, you would need to pay with a Nol card. You can purchase one at any of the tram or Metro stations. A Nol Card can be used by passengers to check-in and check-out of the tram by scanning (tapping) the card at the platform screen doors.

The Tram has a fixed fare of AED 3 (N300) per ride, regardless of the distance travelled. But if you're paying for a ticket with cash,  you would have to pay at a premium.

The trams run every 10 minutes during peak hours and 12 minutes at all other times. A trip along the entire route takes about 40 minutes.

Dubai Tram is fully automated. It provides a vast number of features and services for the convenience of the users. For instance, it is air-conditioned; it has Wi-Fi access throughout its network. It also has a complete mobile phone network. There is also dedicated Tram police to enforce rules.

So, if you’re visiting Dubai, and you plan to stay in Al Sufouh, Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeira, etc., you might need to use the Tram.

The Roads and Transport Authority, commonly known as RTA, a major independent government roads & transportation authority in Dubai coordinates the function of the Dubai Tram.

Autojosh.com takes you to the beautiful city of Dubai, to show you some photos of the fascinating Tram.

Now, why don't we have such mode of mass transit in major Nigerian cities?

We should revitalise our beautiful TRAIN network before we start that one

One of the most pleasurable things to do in life is to embark on a train journey...taking in the scenes from the window...

To see dilapidated train stations with flaking paint and abandoned rail lines overgrown with weeds is to witness the core of the ROT in Nigeria

REASONS: GREEDY, LAZY, SELFISH SET OF LEADERS AND PEOPLE.
The leaders are just a microcosm of the people. What you have in leadership is what is present in the country.

Selfish and greedy politicians will not allow it work

Blessed13:
Greedy leaders It's obvious

Easy to point fingers but you have to question the citizens who keep voting for these types of leaders. This is not a military govt anymore, we can change our leaders if we are serious. We are all responsible, the useless leaders and the useless citizens. If the citizens continue to accept, the leaders will continue in their ways.

We don't have it because you need to count one first before you count two. Have we even gotten a good road for small cars let alone having this type of a thing?

We need technocrats to be in charge for constructive development to take over in Nigeria...

Politicians have caused more damage than development to our dear nation.
In America, during the 1940's 50's, they had Trams. A very nice form of transportation for the masses.
The car industry just began selling cars. But people were not buying cars because they didn't need ...
So the auto industries all go together discuss BAD plan.
They used their money to buy the tram companies and all their infrastructure.

Once they had ownership of the trams, they bastardised the whole thing. Scattered it finish - Nonsense.

Now every body leg was paining them and they were all forced to buy cars.

Nigeria is slow on public transport because the imported cars need to be sold. We're just importing like crazy

This system of transportation was planned for while the blue print of the city was being drawn, but down here how many cities have blue prints ? and even when they do, how many execute such blue prints. If such transport system is to be introduced in Nigeria, the money the govt would use to relocate structures it will demolish in order to have way to build these tracks is more than what it would actually cost to build such transport system. But non the less, if the government is really determined to modernize our cities, then it must start thinking of alternative transport systems such as these.
