Misplaced priority on the part of the general. You closed your borders to goods but opened it to people who will come and terrorize your people undecided
What about the sea and air?

Visa on arrival isn't the same thing as free access.

Visa on arrival actually means documentation of individuals.

Thank God Nairaland still have reasonable people!

Sadly this is true.... A northern Cameroonian told me he has the national ID. I told him to show me , lo and behold he brought it out and I was shocked. Here in the south, to register for Ordinary NIN we are demanding bribe from ourselves but in the north, they register foreigners with open arms and it's free.

This country is just a mistake.

It's southerners making it difficult for other southerners

Wow! This is awesome but I'm still not with you..the money we are making on crude oil only is enough to transform our beloved country into what we want, but unto which those money are going, we both know. The problem is that this poeple are fighting for their pockets and doesn't have the best interest of masses at heart. I get your point , don't misinterpret me o. But those countries that implemented this policies are not selfish and less concerned like our politicians here in naija...And if it causes havoc, they will all travel out leaving us here..Nawa o.
Tourism is a unique aspect of an economy. With tourism, unlike crude oil sales and deals in which 95% of the money made goes directly to the government and some few private friends of the government, tourism money goes directly to the common man and basic businesses by the common citizens.

In Ghana,we make over 1 billion dollars from tourism and majority of this money spent goes to the food vendors, transport owners, taxi drivers, hostel and hotel managers, drivers, tour guides, culture and art sellers on the streets, restaurant and food joint operators,it provides massive employment and business ventures, etc.

Just a little amount goes to the government through taxing of these service providers and some tickets for some exclusive government owned tourist sites.People come to tour the nation for religious programmes, sports programmes, business summits, food and art exhibition, private family tour packages,,nature sight seeing ,group tour packages and even sex and entertainment tourism, all these brings in tourists.

Most people do not embark on these journeys because of the months and time needed to apply and process for a simple 30 day or 90 day visa.So when you make it visa on arrival, all they need is their plane tickets which must have a return ticket back to their country before entry and personal pocket money to spend. In Mauritius and other visa on arrival countries they check your bank balance or money in hand which some countries make it 100 dollars per day spent must be available.

Tourism competes with gold and cocoa top earning in Ghana. It accounts for 10% of the world GDP and employs 1 in 5 employed people in the world.

There's local tourism when people travel from the same country travel from one state to the other for a mission or even visit their relative or friend in another state. You spend in that state and improve their local economy buh the best form of tourism is international tourists. They bring dollars and foreign exchange and they spend like celebrities and rich tourists thus helping the economy of that country. Tourism sustains South Africa, Egypt, Kenya,Greece,Italy,Ghana and Nigeria can earn more money from tourism than even oil due to your large diverse and wonderful society and people when you develop and market your country. Countries pay to CNN and world media to advertise their country like Visit Rwanda which sponsors Arsenal FC and Year of Return in Ghana.

Why is there this belief that splitting the country up will help.

If splitting it in half, a North and a South isn't enough. Igbos may come to dominate commercial life in the South and may lead to resentment by the Yourubas and other ethnic groups.

Best split is 4 ways. North, Southwest, Southeast, and South South. Even at that, Middle Belt states like Niger, Benue, Plateau for instance will not want to be joined with the North. Kwara may prefer to join the Yorubas. A split Yugoslavian style will be more like it.

You can't split the South south because large percentage of Igbo land is in between the so called South South.
People from Edo State have nothing in common with people from Cross River State.

Even if it's possible to go with part of Igbo land, only time will tell, you will start having issues with the land and people.

Restructuring will be accepted base on the Geopolitical region.

Lol. You don't even know Nigeria. They're only arrested in Southern Nigeria but millions have more right than you in northern Nigeria. You can be killed by having just an argument with one of such undocumented immigrants there. As a matter of fact, there are more than 6 million immigrants from the sahel region in the north majority of whom are undocumented and yet they have voters card. Lol. Some of them even have your national I'D which majority of Nigerians don't have. Kai! Nigeria is a funny contraption. Many southerners don't know what they're up against.
I am currently in the North and they ain't got no right infact they are complaining and going back to their countrys or Niger because security personnel sees them collect money from them if they ain't got papers

My statements weren't final. My main point was that a split will create more problems than it solves. It might leave some parts poor and others rich.

The best bet is to give states greater autonomy over their affairs or split the country into 6 zones and each zone greater autonomy.

"Great Again"? Please tell me which decade, century or period that Nigeria was ever great in human memory. Nigeria was only coined in the early 20th century and became independent almost 60yrs ago. Which of your parent or elders in your family lied to you. The past may seem glorious because its nostalgic and life was simple. Things were tough as well.

Regionalism as practised in the 60s is the answer. Each region has more than enough resources to prosper. Those who choose to remain poor would do so by choice because of the following:
-Religious fanaticism
-Lack of public transparency
-Lack of rule of law
-Corruption
-Terrorism and insecurity
-Large scale illiteracy

And a society will fail if there are exceedingly more Idiots and Tribalists than the Ideal Citizens among the respective population. We already have an idea of the region(s) that may fail or remain poor if regionalism is implemented. See this video to understand why societies fail.

For you to say this clearly shows that either you're new in the north or you're lying. The 'buzus have lived in the north for decades and inter-married with many northerners. Perhaps, a few hungry policemen wanted to squeeze some cash from the new entrants you saw. It doesn't in any way negate what I wrote previously. Northern Nigeria border is highly porous and the Hausa/fulanis want it so.

I don't think you should be worried about the South African bastards, I doubt any of them has any interest in this kind of deal. I think they would rather kick out the Nigerians in their country than visit Nigeria, let alone live there. The South Africans who visit Nigeria regularly have businesses there ,and they can afford the visa fees, so this won't change anything for them.

Refugees may flood Nigeria though. And with the present lack of jobs in Nigeria, they may soon turn to crime.
There are people from countries who have done nothing but fight wars all their lives. Will they bring that mentality to Nigeria

Also, what does "without visa" mean? Does it mean they can come to Nigeria on a visit only, or can they come and stay permanently?

The people who may "turn" to a life of crime after they arrive Nigeria dont buy air tickets, they use bush paths. You need to re-read the piece again. This is a smart move by Nigeria. First it puts other African countries under pressure to reciprocate, secondly it reduces the cost of maintaining overseas consular services, thirdly it pushes Nigeria up the ease of doing business league table. Those visiting Nigeria still need a letter of invitation from their, Nigerian host and proof of their ability to maintain themselves for the period envisaged. The new passport system at the airport allows immigration check for prior entries on the passport by interpol, overseas police and all foreign immigration desks.

Terrorists can come if they want to sample the pleasures of kirikiri guest house.

My issues is that for this to take place

There has to be reciprocity.

We cannot open our gates and then they close their gates to us...

If it's open door policy

Let it be two ways.

Nope, not all African Countries will make the visa-on-arrival reciprocal.

Countries like South Africa, Kenya, Egypt, Morocco and the likes will not make it reciprocal to Nigerians.
