Look u which buhari. It is part of the MOU between them and the Nigerian government. They build ur trains for u and they have to train is to know how to operate and manage it. The University of Transportation is also part of the MOU. Don't politicize it.
You said it is part of the mou signed with the government, who is the head of government? I'm not a supporter of Buhari but stop being petty, he could easily have stopped funding the contract like past governments did and nothing will happen.

Oga leave ajaokuta matter, there are examples of many countries that have a very good railway system yet they do not have steel, it's not a requisite for having a good railway system if you doubt ask Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Japan etc.
The key to development is Technology. All the countries you mentioned are lightyears ahead of us and you are happy playing psychofan!

Japan doesn't have iron in commercial quantities but look at their iron and steel industries. We have everything, but we'll rather export them for money to purchase consumables for ourselves.

Development is not measured by what you can purchase but what you can produce.

You don't even have shame that Nigeria cannot clothe herself. If you think we can,
1. How many pins and needles can we produce?
2. Do we produce the thread used for sewing clothes
3. How much of yarns (natural or synthetic) do we produce for making fabrics?
4. How much of dyes (natural or synthetic) do we produce in Nigeria?
5. How many companies manufacture automated clothe weaving machines?
6. How many companies manufacture sewing machines in Nigeria?

Any yet people like you are happy that we have a shortsighted government who doesn't even know that there is a problem as long as Nigerians can buy clothes from China and used clothes from Europe!

Yes buhari and his brainless supporters inherited madness bcs he dances naked in de market place without shame and his equally mad supporters hail his madness. Since when did sending some guys to study abroad become an achievement that a president and his mad supporters be celebrating.
Unfortunately, you are so engulfed with hatred that you bitter over good news and rejoice over bad news because buhari is involved. Even many of you who are unable to impregnate their wives, now blame buhari for that.

Unfortunately for you again, buhari will be the president of this country till 2023. So you might as well jump into the lagoon because there is obviously nothing you can do about it.

Remember 150 Nigerians Studying Railway Engineering In Two Universities In China, Bankrolled By The Chinese Government. After Their Graduation, Some Would Be Employed By The FG As Lecturers In The Transportation University So As To Impact The Knowledge On New Students For The Maintenance Of Our Rails Others Would Move To The New Train Factory In Ogun To Help Nigeria Produce Made In Nigeria Trains.

I thought we were talking railway here. Would you rather have the government not send these people for training or what? First you criticised based on the fact ajaokuta is down, i provided you with evidence of countries with a good railway system without steel deposits now you switch to all manner of things.
I'm not a supporter of Buhari but if government is taking the right step then we should commend. Apart from criticism you have offered no alternative argument to what the government is doing. You're either a pessimist or just plain bitter at the government.

It is obvious you don't know how government in Nigeria works.

Let me give you a summary: it's called least resistance high publicity and money spending thrift.

Meaning:
The government works by spending money so as to look like they are working (and of course personal gains is embedded).

In other words instead of the government doing that which will last a lifetime, they prefer to do window dressing for the publicity it gives.

They are spending money on railway and training of Nigerians to maintain the railways.

What exactly is your point?

As the other chap said, you are either an insufferable pessimist or bitter because you simply prefer another candidate for leader.

They aren't training Nigerians to maintain the railways. They are training them to teach at the "Transport University"!
Unfortunately, without backing technology, you still have nothing.

It's the same problem plaguing our electricity generation company. They have to import every spare part the turbine or its alternator need anytime it breaks down.

It amuses me to see that when the British government colonized Nigeria, they established a railway line that stretches from the north west to the north east and streaming down to Lagos.

Why?
To ship goods from groundnut, cotton, tin to the sea (Lagos port) and thereby to Britain.

Can you see long term purpose and planing behind this?

And trust our Government, they are building standard guage railway: for only God know their strategic moves for embarking on short distance railway lines!

Lagos to Ibadan rail: what is the commercial purpose?
Abuja to Kaduna: what is the commercial purpose?
There was a news early this week saying that Government has to subsidize the railway to a tune of 40million per month!

Did they not do a feasibility study?

We can forgive the uneducated if they don't understand but how about the so called educated people?

The summary of Governments primary duty is to empower citizens to be rich (financial empowerment). In turn the government makes good money in taxes to facilitate making the citizens richer and secure.

Government thus has the duty to
1. Facilitate easy production of goods and services by citizens
2. Facilitate the creation and expansion of market for the goods and services
3. Facilitate security and protection to citizens in the course of production and marketing of goods and services.

Even though, Government has to build road, waterworks, airports, etc, they are fallouts of empowering the citizenry (not by giving N10,000 empower money)

God please give us a visionary leadership

How can you ask what the purpose for a rail line from Lagos to Ibadan is?

How can you ask what the commercial purpose of rail from any part of the world to another might be?

I'm sure for you, it is only viable once it passes through your home town because it is quite demeaning asking what the viability is for a city as populated and ancient/ modern as Kaduna.

Government is subsidising the railway as of today because it is a new venture still on a test run.

Ultimately it would be commercialised.

Those lecturing at the transport university would be lecturing who ans what would those graduates do after graduation if not work in the transport sector which includes rail.

Talking about electricity and spare parts, please point out one country in which the government is the producer of copper cables or Ceramic parts.

Some of you pontificate as if you have no responsibility for your society.

Yeah, you are right. In addition to that, no country would reveal all their technological secrets to you. The question is, if they transfer technology to you, would you need their services anymore? Of course not.

You are not talking to kids.

An organisation cannot show you everything and yet think you would not divulge the information should you find a reason to.

I work in technology myself and we have confidential information we cannot share with clients but does that function should I leave on my own tomorrow?

I cannot suddenly pretend I dont know what I already know and should I need it, it becomes useful.

If you are talking about patents, then whether they spoke English , French or even dealing with their own kind, it would not be divulged.

Everyone has his own trade secret.

But trying to make it seem as if our government is made up of dummies whilst you are the intelligent one is actually dumb.

I am not saying I am intelligent, but what I want to tell you is some of these guys are not that intelligent. They care a lot about how to steal, if they care more about human capacity, Nigeria would not be in total shambles.

Rivers state under Amaechi enjoyed a boost in the educational exposure of many even from humble and may I say impoverished homes.

I met many beneficiaries of Amaechi's governorship undertaking graduate and post graduate course in the UK.

If not that politics has polarised Nigerians, I dare any Rivers indigene to say otherwise.

Yes, I ask for the purpose since they are subsidizing the railway with N40million every month. This either means that it is a white elephant project with no purpose attached.

You are over optimistic about Nigerian education. That's exactly why even though we have produced hundreds of thousands of electrical engineers we are still having electricity generation and distribution problem (just one example).

I think you are getting me wrong. It is not Governments responsibility to manufacture things. It is governments responsibility to facilitate the private sector to produce by guarantying market, profit and security.

The east-west network of US railways was a project guaranteed by the US government to the steel companies. Whatever was produced was paid for by the government.

Most of the products that could aid development are high risk investment. It is the Governments duty to guarantee market and security for such products.

Until such a time when several parallel competing companies are on ground before the government begin to emphasize free market economy.

When several companies have been nurtured to success, a country is said to have technological STRUCTURES! Nigeria does not have any technological structure as of today. It is the government's duty to facilitate that.

You've been comparing countries with functioning structures to Nigeria with no structure.

I think you are mixing up a lot of things.

The reason Nigeria is the way it is is because people theorize rather than practice.

Everyone is waiting for what doesn't exist and only those that are brave succeed.

What are all the other billionaires waiting for despite our population size and the guarantee (government need not interfere) of the market size when it comes to refined petroleum products?

Nairaland as a platform came up even when the market wasn't guaranteed, but the initiator didnt theorize, he did it.

Recently, at least in the last couple of weeks, we've witnessed Nigerians into auto manufacturing showcase their finished goods.
They didn't wait for electricity, neither did they wait for Ajaokuta.

Until the average Nigerian realises he can produce Jeans and attire comparable with anything in the west, despite the challenges, it would be doom and gloom.

Despite the various negative reports about Nigeria, this government, more than any government before is investing massively in infrastructure.

It is left for the people to acknowledge this and key into it rather than waiting for Godot.

You are partially right even though it is a loosing battle. The only way out is if the government does what they are supposed to do, then the citizenry will follow suite. The reverse is almost impossible.

The Chinese are good model for us to follow if we want to amount to anything in the world.

The Chinese government sponsors technological espionages and distills the information to their private sectors. I hope you are aware that AliExpress was designed for the average Chinese business to export to the world? Their government even pays for shipments for some category of orders. At the end of the day, more sales outside the country is more foreign exchange income and more money to the Chinese government through tax. That is a proactive form of governance which is different from the reactionary form of governance we practice in Nigeria

Nice seeing this.
If the president can be doing this every year, I guess Nigeria is going to transform.
Our doctor are superb across the world.
Due to the fact that more specimen are there for Experiment.
But our engineering are far backward, but little acceleration in civil.
But mechanical and Electrical are far behind.
If Nigeria as a nation are still importing generator, cars and tractors for agricultural purpose meaning that our mechanical and electrical engineers need to be questions.
Why I say both mechanical and electrical need questioning because they are affiliated courses moving together.
Thanks
