Gabrokpara001:Do you employ Nigerians in the building of clients' homes? I still prefer the cotonou people though. They're highly professional and economical when a Nigerian builds you could easily notice...no precision, the building would either bend or wobble in one side or abruptly shaped. |

oyatz:I appreciate innovations that enhance people's way of life. Of course, I'd be willing to pay but not arbitrarily. Since the bridge would be state-owned, they need to recover their money and also maintain it but the toll shouldn't be heavy, that's my point but hey! It would definitely be a heavy burden on lagosians. Our govt likes money more than the people who put them there. The ikoyi link bridge toll we pay per crossing/usage. We have an office in Lekki and ikoyi. If we cross 4 times daily, we pay 400 naira 4 times and that's too much when summed up in a month. You could say there are alternative routes yes...but the business of the govt is to also make life meaningful to those they govern by building infrastructure because they do not pay interest on the allocations that come to them from the fed govt, neither do they refund same. Such allocations are for a project like this but because we do not know our right. We just watch them slap us in the face .Charging less would be nice on the 4th mainland bridge. |

9jaRealist:Well said. I remember the battle between Fashola and GEJ's government over inland waterways in Lagos, but at the moment, passenger boat operators are operating skeptically and Ubar is a small and boutique operation, we need at least (20-30) 200-300 passenger capacity ferry boats moving passengers heading into the city all the way from Badagry to I korodu, Marina, Badore, Ijede and so on. This should be enough to remove hundreds of thousands of people off Ikorodu road and Lagos Badagry axis. Bottom line, they need to scale up investments massively to take advantage of the waterways. |

This thread in spite of attempts to detail has actually been insightful. Lagos has to build this bridge given that the 3rd Mainland bridge was build over 30 years ago. Given the private funding model, I expect the toll to be implemented to give ample time for the recoup of funds maybe 20-30 years. |

9jaRealist:Enlightenment is different from educated... We need to be both in this country. Do you understand what double taxation is? Even our so called government are not accountable for our little tax we pay. So we should expunge this your notion from our mindset and let the government do what they are supposed to do. Era of mediocrity should be done with abeg |
| Re: Lagos 4th Mainland Bridge: 39 Companies Express Interest In Constructing It by 9jaRealist: 4:58am On Dec 24, 2019 |
jidxin:Perhaps you should follow your own counsel on the highlighted... ![]() Nigeria is NOT be the first country to have tolled roads and/or bridges. Even in most (if not all) of the advanced economies where tax compliance is actually much GREATER than in Nigeria, toll roads (and all manner of usage taxes) exist. Meanwhile, this bridge currently does NOT exist and if a private entity takes the investment risk of raising the capital (most of which will likely be in the form of DEBT from banks, etc.), it deserves to recoup its investment by tolling the road. Not sure where you got the "double taxation" theory from. If the FG charges for the new trains being put into use, would that be double taxation? If Lagos charges for the new Light Rail or LagFerry or BRT, is that double taxation? A NEW tolled road is substantively no different from VAT (or other consumption/usage tax). You don't buy VAT-covered goods, you don't pay VAT! > |

9jaRealist:I want to agree with your summary, I just feel that tolls should not be too much to cause a huge dent in pockets. O Also, the alternate routes should be developed as well. |
