Boko Haram continues to exist simply becasue the top military officers want it to. They have been diverting funds since forever. That's why non of the top ogas are physically fit, with their useless pot bellies.

While corruption is serious in the army...and existed before Shekauand Yusuf even thought about Boko Haram....I doubt the Army has anything to do with 'prolonging Boko Haram'

First, the nature of the beast. Boko are a gang of fanatics. They would fight even if deprived of all weaponry.

Second, Boko is fighting the classic unconventional warfare. They daren't take on the Army conventionally...because they know they would lose. So they hide, strike isolated areas, kidnap and kill, and score propaganda victories. Their war is more psychological than conventional. The aim is to wear down the enemy...not to win in two years, but in thirty or fifty years if need be.

(Consider the kidnap of the Chibok and Dapichi girls...isolated areas, no millitary significance, Boko strikes, kidnaps lots of girls...and enjoys the psychological fallout....and the propaganda value ...they have established themselves as scary boogeymen)

Third...Boko is just part of a wider war across the World...infact across WEST AFRICA. In case you don't know...they have links to millitants operating in Mali and Burkina Faso,as well as Niger, Chad and even further afeild.....also the crisis in Libya has ensured they get a steady flow of weapons. Also note they are being trained by people who fought the Russians and Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan. ....folk with expertise in fighting uselss long haul wars.
