I served in Federal Polytechnic Ukana, a 5 minutes drive from Ikot Ekpene. I visited Ikot Ekepene Plaza regularly then to relish the convivial atmosphere of splendor. I love Akwa Ibom: its delicacy, people, dialect, and culture.

How will the gutter be disilted when it is filled?
This is an LGA, may not have the funds that state capitals may have for such yearly disilting exercises which is not effective even in the most richest state capitals in Nigeria.

The key is to keep the drains clean and water flowing. Even in Kigali there are open drains every where but they are kept clean.

Akwa ibom drains are fairly clean, at least better than drains in 90% of states in Nigeria.

I prefer they remain open so private individuals can clean them during monthly sanitation exercises which akwa ibomites are very good at, without waiting for government to come with expensive cranes to open the concrete drains for cleaning.

That is NOT how it is done. You don't understand how a system of covered drainage works.

Once it's well built you don't even need to open and clean the drains. They STAY clean forever because iron vents installed on the sides of the pavement keep away trash, only allowing water into the drains.

Abuja has no open gutters and has sidewalks and covered drainage. Do you ever see cranes opening anything there to clean anything?

Go and ask them how they manage without open gutters.

All the country exports is bananas and ganja.
