American base within Kenya base. Doesn't make sense to me, but I'm not Kenyan so.

The base in question.

About the MRAP I'm just putting it out there. The Nigerian army says it's a hell of a machine, that's why I'm saying.
Think of it like a big circle then a small circle inside it. Or a rectangle which has been been partioned in the middle but for you to get to the American part you'll have to go through the kenyan side first.
Camp Simba was established in 2004 but the origins of the Naval base go back the days of said barres autocratic regime which had then threathed on several occasions to take control of Southern Kenya's sea claiming it was rightfully theirs, a maritime dispute that is still in contention even as we speak. After he was overthrown the fear then was that other radical factions might have chosen to take matters into their own hands. A secondary school in Lamu was burnt down by a faction of somalis forces then.

Manda Bay's origins tell you everything you need to know about why the
Americans showed up here. The Kenyan navy built the base in 1992, in
response to the collapse of the Siad Barre dictatorship in Somalia the
year before, right about the time U.S. marines were stepping off their
amphibious ships and entering Mogadishu. Kenya's predominantly Muslim
northern coastal area is so remote that it was simply easier to send
military supplies to its border with Somalia along the coast using naval
vessels than to head up inland by vehicles, as the sandy roads are
impassable in the rainy season.

Years later, as Somalia began spiraling downward yet again, Central
Command sent a special-operations contingent into Manda to begin training
the Kenyan navy on antiterrorism tactics using high-speed patrol craft.

These missiles fired from Drones are fitted with AT warheads, a fragmentation warhead would have certainly caused a more lethal effect.

I think he was talking about sovereignty. I am sure Kenyans are not allowed in that part even though it’s their country

those are your thoughts.

But if you wanna deal with facts, just try googling a couple of articles that are talking about the attack, bring me any from a reputable source that says the words 'US base'
.. most of them use the words "joint military base used by Kenyan and U.S. forces" that should tell you something about how it's operated.
There are 4 main strategic installations at/around the base, The airstrip which has its traffic control office, a jetty on the sea side , an anti-terrorism training center (which is actually just a school regular looking school), The school is on the Kenyan side, and the command center, that coordinates day to day activities including the joint training. {all those 4 utilities are shared between the two}. Also, Part of Kenya special forces training rotation includes spending a few weeks at the Manda Naval Base , but most of the field training happens at the sea since 2011 after Kenya went to Somalia, They no longer conduct joint training on Land at the base anymore. The Americans also have a Cessna spy-plane that they do manned patrols along the Somali's coast (the Kenyans don't get directly involved in this, they only get reports afterward -Probably after the Americans deduct whatever spy stuff they are doing in Somalia - This is what I was told by a relative of mine who spent some time there). The reason they gave is something about operational security blah blah blah, So after the Kenyans complained about being left out the America did eventually detonate 2 similar planes to the Kenya to do their own surveillance with.

This is one of the Cessna 208 surveillance aircraft that was given to Kenya , This pic was taken at Malindi airstrip which is like a 30min flight from Lamu, but atleast one of the Kenyan Cessna operates/operated (It could be one of the aircrafts that were destroyed yesterday) from Manda Naval base's airstrip.

A Cessna 208B Caravan light aircraft donated to the Kenyan military by the United States Defence Security Cooperation Agency (USDSCA) refuels at Malindi airstrip. The aircraft was converted into an intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) platform by L-3 Communications and features a gyro-stabilized electro optical and infrared (EO/IR) camera as well as communication interception technology. Kenya has been embattled with terrorism threats and Islamic extremism throughout the coastal region, with townships like Lamu and Malindi which lie close to the Somali border being particularly affected.

Know who you're talking to! He's less interested in facts. I've a KN buddy but lost his contact but you're correct-its a joint base.

More confirmation on Western help for BH. Not just France but also the US as Eeben Barlow,STTEPS trainer explains.

We ended a selection process of the Nigerian soldiers, the soldiers were retained after a selection process, they were trained in a specific way to conduct a hostage rescue operation.

“However, after about five or six weeks of the training of the hostage rescue team we were asked to change our mission and that mission was to go to a town called Maiduguri in north-east Nigeria that had come under severe threat of Boko Haram and we rapidly had to transition what we were doing and suddenly train an offensive force with the minimum of equipment.

“We rushed to Maiduguri and we met with 7th infantry division commander, he was under pressure, we finally understood the pressure he was under and our suggestion to him that the force that we have trained which named the 72nd mobile strike force would actually spearhead the division and that is precisely what we did.

“The operation was in three phases, the first phase was to cut a dividing line across north-eastern Nigeria and isolate Boko Haram into two isolated areas and mop up. One area in the south was the start and after that then mop up in the north. The division will follow behind and occupy terrain.

“But we were never allowed to execute the entire operation. In one month, we took back terrain larger than the terrain of Belgium from Boko Haram. We were not allowed to finish because it came at a time that governments were in the process of changing.

“President Jonathan’s government saw the entire Boko Haram contract, if we call it that, as a last grasp to regain popularity. The incoming president, President Buhari was heavily supported by a foreign government and one of the first missions was to terminate our contract.

“We were told it was the United States and they had actually funded President Buhari’s campaign and the campaign manager for President Buhari came from the US.

“I’m not saying the United States is bad, I understand foreign interests but I’d have thought that a threat like Boko Haram on the integrity of Nigeria ought to be a priority but it wasn’t.”

When asked why the US allegedly aborted the mission, he said: “I think the US can answer that, I have come to realise that when a foreign interest clashes with a state’s interest and domestic interest, conflict is bound to ensue and those conflicts continue with no end.”
