Ebonyi added five thousand naira to everyone's salary and will recover like two thousand naira from each person by way of tax. Note that graduates earn N20k there.

You are a despicable layabout but, unfortunately, you have no one to say it to your face! Nairaland took a plunge [and never recovered] because of people like you.

I spit on you!

Minimum wage has always been gateway to inflation in Nigeria's economy. Checking chronology pattern of minimum wage and inflation duet, one will see that there is this one-one correspondence and dependency between the two, one greatly effects another.

Solution to workers financial problems is by no means upward review of minimum wage, but by total price control of goods and services. Higher minimum wage means more cash, less value that legal tenders possess and constant market evaluation. Things will always balance up to remain as it was before. What N10 will buy 10years ago, N100 will buy it this present day, so what is the point?

May almighty God bless you

Pls why are the northern states with the least allocations stepping up to the plate?

I think all yorubas and igbos should consider and learn charity from the Hausas. They are more generous and giving than any other tribe. Plus more honest. Besides religious issues they cool peoples.

I think the inclusion of Ebonyi is very misleading. I am right here in Ebonyi and a Civil Servant told me that what was agreed on was an upward review of the status quo, not the payment of the exact 30K

As it is now, Ebonyi State's Civil Servants are one the least remunerated in the country. A Graduate enlisted in the State's Teaching Service, here, collects as low as 27K monthly.

I am serving here and my above statement is based on the discussions I had with the Public Schools' Teachers who are B.Sc/B.Ed graduates

Would Corp members be paid at the end of January too?

Very insightful post.
It's exactly what I've been telling people. Inflation will cancel out the increase.

But isn't there any other solution apart from price controls. I believe we should be trying to further free up the economy instead of putting on tighter socialist regulations like price controls.

Does this not call for reasoning, of the ten states that are ready to pay their workers 30k minimum wage for now after nearly a year of its signing into law,8 are from the north...Though it won't surprise me the southern governors are still working on how to fill their bank accounts before any other thing.
