It seems like the Nigerian traders at Kumasi are also not abiding with the local laws.. Nigerian traders in Accra most especially Circle and Mokola hardly have problems with GUTA...
not so. In as much as we know this is a typical behavior of Ghanaians towards foreigners conducting business in Ghana, I can categorically say to you that kumasi people are villagers exhibiting worse characters than other traders in other cities of Ghana.

Now ,if such is to happen in Nigeria which sometimes it does but amongst various tribes in Nigeria, one tribe that exhibit such barbaric act are hausas.

So it not about following law and order, there are group of people who have this nasty attitude to take on foreigners or people from other tribes.

I have done business in Ghana and I can say to you, the ones that hate you will tell you they dont want you in their country even though i was residing legally in Ghana..

There is a law banning foreigners from doing retail business. The Lebanese, Indians and Chinese are all doing manufacturing, which is where foreigners are allowed. In fact, if you are into export or manufacturing, you do not even pay the $2m requirement.

Our people just enter countries and operate illegally and complain when things go awry. Do things legally and even the police there will stand by you.

this is laughable... cheesy

Biafrans stylishly calling on the President, of the country they all call shîthole, to come to their aid?

Shouldn't they be calling on their able-leader, Nnamdi Kanu, to come to their rescue undecided
May foolishness never depart from your family line.

The law is a direct opposition to the ecowas movement of goods and people which they signed.

Movement of goods and people is not just in allowing big Nigerian banks to provide employment there .
It also covers the retail sector.

Free movement of goods and people. The Chinese and Lebanese are not ecowas citizens.

And the irony is that they want Nigeria to open the borders citing the ecowas policy.
The same policy they have been breaking for years.

Nigeria's hypocritical import ban list is the same thing. When does Nigeria plan on making an exception for ECOWAS members states? Nigeria never took Ghana to court over the matter.

Please can you spell out this so-called ECOWAS protocols people keep quoting here. Let us see the points in the trade sections outlined in black and white. Movement of goods is not the same as trading of goods.

Google it yourself and then come back and tell us if you see any discrepancy.

What the f**k is ECOWAS all about? If the member states are restricted from doing legitimate business in each other's country, then disband the organization.

His response translates to I'm just spouting nonsense. The guy is silent about his own hypocritical import bans which actually break rules. The ECOWAS free trade protocol doesn't cover domestic employment laws. Free trade is regulated by ECOWAS trade liberalization scheme (ETLS). The free movement protocol is also different.

1979 Protocols of free movement of persons:

1. Any citizen of the Community who wishes to enter the territory of any other Member State shall be required to possess valid travel document and international health certificate.
2. A citizen of the Community visiting any Member State for a period not exceeding ninety (90) days shall enter the territory of that Member State through the official entry point free of visa requirements. Such citizen shall, however, be required to obtain permission for an extension of stay from the appropriate authority if after such entry that citizen has cause to stay for more than ninety (90) days.Source

clamp down on foreigners engaged in retail business against Ghanaian laws
Maybe it's not bias. Maybe a few bad ones messed it up for everyone. There's probably more to the story than the government is willing to say now. However, I hope they're not shutting down Nigerian shops while filthy Asians do as they please. Asians are the worst offenders. They're sick people. Worry about purging them before you go after a random shop owner.

People complaining about border closure alarms me, this is because I feel the border has not been closed enough undecided Here I am praying that Buhari government recruit more security personnel and invest in more border technology to ensure that the borders are so tightly closed a rat wouldn’t escape detection let alone a charcoal faced foreigner and some are complaining our borders are closed. Gods how I wish you made me president of Nigeria.
Re: Nigerian Traders' Shops Closed In Ghana As They Cry Out by Litmus:
I also pray Ghana deports all Nigerians so we can deport Ghanaians. Why can’t Nigerians and Ghanaians see that the two nations would be better off having nothing to do with each other? Nigerians do not seem to recon with the fact that the people of Ghana are actually larger than we consciously live with in our minds. The people of Ghana are those that live in Ghana, Ivory Coast and Togo. Please o Ghana concentrate on uniting with those nations, deport Nigerians.

People of Ethiopia are also larger than we think; the people of Ethiopia are those that live in Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti and parts of Kenya.

They are large and so are we as Nigeria. We don’t need them, we have all we need to become one of the worlds leading Nations, forget one Africa, it will be disastrous. One Africa is a foolish dream of some and an active hope of others that mean to enslave us. I say US because we Nigerians do not want to be slaves of the West but the rest of black Africa generally fancy the idea and quietly like it.

West Africa/Population =

They should blame it on the administration in their country and it's useless foreign policies.
If I were Ghanaian, I'd have done worse.
Most of the traders in 'Makola' market are Igbos even.
Go to Circle and hear Igbo freely spoken in buses. Most fashion shops in Kumasi are owned by Yorubas, the currency changers and Sim sellers at Aflao speak Hausa.

Yet Baba thinks the world revolves around him. I wonder what the role of the Diaspora commission is even.

Ghanaians should lock up their stalls and send them back to Ogbete, Dugbe and Ochanja.
Nonsense.

Your President frigging closed the land border preventing Beninoise, Togolese and Ghanaians to freely trade in Nigeria and you expect to trade in these countries without being victimized.

No way.

International Relations teach that there is a ripple effect of the actions or inactions of a leader on the lives of his citizens in such countries.

Nigeria has failed you.
And you believe that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not anticipate the fall out and assess it against overall economic interests? Bros MoFA is not staffed by idiots those guys crunch the numbers.

If Ghana wants to close Nigerian owned shops because of their laws let them go ahead. Nigerians anywhere must obey extant laws and when in Nigeria they must also obey our laws. Can a Nigerian go to the UK and set up a chemist shop without obeying the laws? Let's leave sentiment out of this. The Ecowas protocol free movement protocol only covers 90 days of visa free entry, it does not yet allow ecowas citizens to work or set up shop anywhere they like.

can u equate harassing traders with closing borders. I know a number of foreigners who are selling freely here in lagos
600 foreign retail shop in just one market don't you think that's a bit too much? What would happen in 10yrs time if they keep allowing it? Ghana is too small to accommodate both ghanaians and nigerians. Even if foreign retailers are going to be allowed which wouldn't happen because the law of the land is against it, the number of foreigners retailin should have a limit nothing above 50 per market

says you? That interpretation of movement of goods and people is simply allowing trade across borders basically goods made in nigeria should be allowed to cross easily into ecowas member countries and vice versa as for movement of people, its easy movement across borders that's why there is that 90 days grace period once you go pass the 90 days if you are still in a member country you have to abide by their laws. The only member country going against ecowas laws is nigeria
