Whether u like it or not. If care is not taken transsion will end up like blackberry. Other phone companies are catching up n making low end devices too. Don't b surprised when the Samsung s,Nokia, oppo break into the 30k range barrier which transsion holds on to for dear life. Xaiomi already has one phone in that bracket. Once that happens,it's over for transsion phones.

Transsion has solidify it's presence in the lower market, they've strived so hard to gain top of mind in the minds of average Nigerians whenever they think about getting an affordable phone. So Samsung et al has lots of work to do if they are gonna pose a threat. Forget wetin all this nairaland TECNO haters de form.
Correction here, not average Nigerians but below average nigerians.. those ones that have no good sense of quality, if Samsung and xiaomi is expensive, there is nokia, if nokia is expensive, there is umidigi. Umidigi is even reviewed in uk, germany and some European countries, for umidigi to sell their phones in these countries tells you the quality. Transsion will never set foot in Europe because they make their phones for below average and poor quality minded people in countries without customer protection and quality enforcement.

just dey look them, at work people wonder why I opt for a "nameless" brand when there are lots of infinix and Tecno phones out there, I simply ask them to bring any Transsion phone within 30k range and see if it compares to umidigi A3pro.

I find it fascinating that many comments so far make it seem as though the article is "bashing" Transsion. On the contrary, the article knows that they are doing so well and even mentioned that they grew their profits from around around $100m to $334m in just one year. That tells you they have strong market reach that won't go away all of a sudden. But what that revenue base also tells you is that the market for budget phones is now quite big and is going to grow even bigger.

Big companies are spotting this and in 2020, many of them are looking to target it more. Samsung recently announced two Samsung Galaxy Lite devices that are going to target the mid-range and low end class. It also announced more Samsung A series devices. The A series are budget devices somewhat when compared to Samsung's premium devices. Meanwhile Apple also announced an iPhone SE2 which would cost less than $400. Then there is Nokia that has only ever produced one premium device ($500+ device) since 2016.

If this trend continues, Transsion may see more budget friendly devices from these guys that would rival theirs in terms of pricing and quality. That is the real crux. It doesn't matter whether Transsion has haters or lovers, if these big brands enter their market segment the competition will be fierce.
You are honest in your analysis

It is because those phones does the basic things they desire. Hence, an average Nigerian isn't fascinated by those marketing gimmicks from those other brands when the ones they are used to does it. An average Nigerian is price insensitive that is why tecno's low end phones still sells till date.

what basic things are talking about a phone my phone at her age is complaining is crap until I changed it and got nokia x5 for her

Tecno phone lags like f*ck with their scrap chipset and you are defending mediocrity mentioning basic thing stop behaving like a low live bro

You know the truth that other brand xiaomi, nokia are better alternative to infinix/Tecno Scrappy and substandard devices
Before you say shit my mum just use her phone for the basic things call Facebook and WhatsApp still Tecno spark 4 was a disaster for her to use

Tell all these to low income earners. That you could afford those brands doesn't mean many would.

Tecno did not take the market overnight. They won't lose it overnight either. It's a gradual process. Will they lose it anytime soon? I don't think so. But one thing is certain, they do not have the same market share in the low end and midrange as they used to. As it stands, they've lost the midrange battle. The new A-series from Samsung coupled with the introduction of Nokia 5.1plus and 6.1 plus spoilt things for them. Infinix Zero 6 is a fantastic device but flopped big time in the trade. The Phantom 9 is struggling too.

I think truly, other brands would have to do extra work to win the budget and low-end battle. But if they could do it in the Mid range, they can do it in the low end too.

They way tecno marketers defend techno phones base on low end market like tecno only produce low end phones.... Tecno still sell crap at 65k is one also low end? So if I have 55k now I should go and buy camon 12?

So many peeps here just follow the bandwagon just to tanish the image of a company if you dont like a product look else where
you guys bashing Transsion mobility how many of your so called Samsung,Apple,Xiaomi,Oppo,Huawei e.t.c do have an affordable phone under 30k the answer is NO
everyone has his/her financial capacity. you think if they have the money they will not buy the quality samsungs and iphones biko you people should reason with your sense and not your Anus...
-ogabentayga- say so
Actually, xiaomi has an android one device with SD 425 for about N19500. Do you know how much tecno/infinix would've sold that?
Infinix zero 6 with SD 636 sells for how much? 100k+, Redmi note 7 with a more powerful processor sells for how much?
50-65k, Nokia x6 with SD 636 sells for 50k.
Tecno/infinix phones are not cheap, they're expensive and overpriced for what they offer. They fed on the ignorance of the average Nigerian and refused to improve all these years, now they're going to face the competition.
Let's see what will happen in 5 years.
Fingers crossed

what fact do you have to back up your claim? You said they've been beaten in the mid-range market, how? Where's your proof? Do a lil research around your environment, list the names of TECNO and Samsung mid-range devices, ask people which of the devices have they heard of before. I can bet that People will tell you they've heard more of the TECNO devices than Samsung's. I'm not saying no Competitor can take TECNO's name off the minds of an average Nigerian o looking at buying a smartphone, but they'll have to do enough work and it will even be obvious that they are trying to take away there spot sef then TECNO would have spotted it and go 10 steps ahead grin lol. The only way TECNO can loose that spot is if they are lacklustre and complacent with there position.

No offence bro but try and be logical here bro, don't sound emotional. How many people knows Umidigi or whatever? Does the old woman in the village know Umigidi? Even the rich old man sef, does he know Umidigi? Does that make both of them a below average human? You'll surprised that both of them know TECNO. For the Old woman and old man know TECNO in a place where there's little or no Internet means TECNO has built there brand up to Top-of-mind status. Don't argue Marketing with me bro, I went to school for this bro.

your average old man or woman knows nothing about phone performance. Tecno made smartphone affordable for the low income earners at the beginning but they have stuck with the same strategy since 2014 and that will come back to bite them in the ass. Can you compare the quality of this 3 phones, which will give you better value for your money

Bros, you're sounding more emotional than logical, see even someone who knows phone performance will still go for TECNO. You know Ladies purchase more of infinix and Tecno than other brands, and you know we have more of females than males in Nigeria ba? I'm telling you they are the Kings of smartphones in Nigeria. Let's look at the image you posted there, look at all of them very well and look at the one with more specs as compared with there prices and answer your question yourself.

speak for yourself, do you know how many ladies have now started opting for Xiaomi, oppo, hauwei etc. And more people will join. Transsion may be the king of entry level smartphone market in Nigeria but the only thing constant in this world is change. And I did not edit any image, you should know jumia uses slide show to advertise it's products. Forget all the fake specs in infinix and Tecno phones, how can a 3 month old phone with 3 gig ram be lagging significantly? Do you honestly think both phones can outperform Redmi 8a

Lol... My sister almost made a mistake of buying the phantom 9... I stopped her and got the Mi A3 128gb plus free case and high quality earphones at 65k ... That's absolute value for money.. Tecno doesn't give value for money as much as they used to back in the day.. You completely rely on marketing and promotion!!! It's just a matter of time!!! Because they spend less money on promotion of the products and less ambassadors and marketers. Tecno and infinix pays almost all tip Nigerian YouTubers . Pays marketers and spends millions of dollars signing ambassadors .. The already have the name cut costs and improve on the phone quality... They should spend more money on Software development and other things
